Our Acura sources told us we can expect to see the new 2021 TLX virtually unveiled in the coming weeks. What are you all hoping to see from the next generation model? Powertrains have been confirmed to be the 2.0T and 10AT from the Accord in base trim, while the Type S will have a new 3.0L twin-turbo V6 😱
I was rather disappointed to hear that they will be still sticking to the stubborn transverse layout regardless of the all new powertrain and platform. I was really hoping to see a proper rwd based SHAWD system. Now I am well aware that current layout and SHAWD does perform much better than expected but I think this was still a missed opportunity to go after proper M and AMG cars or even M sports line, lower AMG line and even the Korean sports sedan duo
The interior isn't TERRIBLE - just not very interesting or Sporty. At least it's not a big, ridiculous mess like the Infinity Q Series with their dual screens with different fonts & color schemes !!
I agree. This can also be said for pretty much all the Japanese cars. I want so badly for Lexus to update their infotainment system. At new Lexus' get a Android Auto and Carplay.
I've been a dedicated Acura owner/driver since 1993 with my all new 1994 Integra GS-R. Moved to a 2002 RSX Type-S, then a 2003 CL Type-S, then a 2008 RDX, and now a 2016 RDX Advance. Love Acuras!! 👍😀
The V6 has always sounded good, and it's just fine but the 2021 with the 2.0T SH-AWD and 10 speed should be WAyyy better. I test drove the Accord with the engine and it's fantastic!
Acura is just a brand in the US, worldwide it’s still a Honda. Honda should make it more exclusive and have a longitudinal engine with RWD platform to all its models. The Genesis Motors of Hyundai outclassed them and Infiniti (luxury brand of Nissan) within just several years, they learned from Lexus (Toyota). Change should be done for both Acura and Infiniti.
Lol not in engine and driving technology. Ya in the looks of course but hyundais awd or fwd systems can't hold a candle Honda's sh-awd and front will drive performance. They also can't match Honda engines either.
@@SpinachLeaf First,Genesis doesn't have fwd powertrains.Second both TLX and RLX are outdated and Acura brand is in declining sales(Not for the new RDX) THEY NEED REDESIGNED CARS ASAP
Watching this review really makes me appreciate everything that Genesis has done and offers. Basically everything you'd want from Acura(or even Infiniti) is what Genesis has. Even though these brands have existed longer, they are basically not much different than your consumer friendly sedan lineups with top trim levels.
eatitjoe I have to disagree with INFINITI. Although everybody hates the current graphics on the Infiniti infotainment system, I still feel like I’m driving a “Luxury brand car” when I step in an Infiniti Q50,Q60 and QX50. With Acura, you really don’t get that vs. a Genesis product. Acura doesn’t really know how to position their brand. They look really nice though
Give it brembos, a flat bottom steering wheel, digital cluster, manual/dct options on the bigger engine, single screen infotainment, and a turbo. Hopefully in 2021 they do some of this. Exterior wise I think it looks amazing.
Modernize the interior. The plastic cubby hole for the screen looked dated on arrival. When you put a screen housing like that, everything below it looks awful too. Acura needs to change their naming convention too. Bring back the Legend name!
And a CD player! Pointless. And yes, every car over $40k should have full led lights in front and rear! No incandescent signals and reverse lights, ever. It looks horribly cheap having both. Plus, I'm not a huge fan of the yellow drl lights. They need to be white with yellow designated for turn signals.
trial I think that renaissance started with the new 3rd gen RDX & now the next gen TLX & MDX would continue that since that is their primary core sales leaders along with the RDX
People hate on the dual screen setup too much. I just think Acura could do a better job with the display quality, functionality and more customizable options like being able to switch screens so Carplay can use touch or having Google Maps on one screen and Music app on the other. Yeah I agree interior is outdated but I’d like to see a design that still uses dual screens
May not look appealing but will last longer than than bmw and mb interior. Bmw n mb interior are cheap plastic shits. Will break and deteriorate after 8 years. My 2007 tsx with 250k miles interior still looks brand new. No cracks or peels. Yah.
Grant Brown , I have a 2013 TSX wagon and I love it! Awesome vehicle combining exceptional performance with much better fuel economy than any V6 sedan!

I really don't get it. With that completely awful interior Acura is just begging others like the Kia/Hyundai group to steal their business. How on Earth can they still justify that infotainment?
smile cute yeah but Infiniti’s dual screen looks better than this. With Infiniti, the only issue is the graphics, but those double screens they say aren’t going anywhere. We’re stuck with 2 screen with Infiniti Land Rover and audi. Personally I think there’s too many buttons with infiniti
Wish they’d use the apex blue color with red interior for one of these. Also wish they’d offer the ability to combine packages on TLX’s in general. Oh well, it’s be gone soon anyway I guess.
I wanted to stop at 2:49 and leave when I heard they kept the same engine/hp for this spec. They could have at least upgraded the intake and exhaust. But do enjoy your reviews so kept watching... Acura must realize their TSX would sell if they gave us a 350+ hp version. I loved my 06 and 2010 TL. 2010 was 305 hp. They need to keep up to Genesis, Audi, BMW or will do what Ford did and start dropping their sedans.
They released that already with the Civic type R. The acura TLX is also the reason we wont see an Accord Type R because the brand would cannibalize itself lol
Maybe you don't understand the culture of owning an Acura or Honda. There are MANY companies that make performance parts for them. Intake, e.c.m. tuning..., headers, exhaust systems, suspension upgrades to suit an owner's taste. 350 horsepower is not hard to achieve on any J35 or J37 engine from 2007+ And they are VERY HARD to break. You have to run it without oil or coolant to blow a cylinder head gasket. Which is unheard of. And transmissions RARELY have issues as of model year 2007 or newer. They just don't break. Hyundai/Kia/Genesis should be fine as long as you're in warranty. Acura/Honda owners tend to FALL IN LOVE with their car and keep them for a long time OUTSIDE of the warranty. A long time. Because they have complete confidence in their vehicle. Yes the navigation system is dated. We know this. Best Buy can remedy that easily with "free" installation...
Awesome👍🏻👍🏻 2020 Acura TLX PMC A-Spec AWD. I like the 2020 Acura TLX PMC A-Spec AWD but I would like the 2020 Toyota Camry XSE V6. Which the 2020 Toyota Camry XSE V6 is way more better then the 2020 Acura TLX PMC A-Spec AWD because it has a panoramic sunroof and the Camry XSE V6 has a very nice red interior which I don’t think you can find a red interior on the Acura TLX PMC but 2 things that are alike to the 2020 Toyota Camry XSE V6 and the 2020 Acura TLX PMC AWD is that both of them have a black painted roof and the rims on both of them are kind a like but good review.
When Acura first came onto the scene they had such great names: Legend, Vigor, Integra...Now it makes no sense. Hopefully they get their naming together like Lincoln finally did.
One of the nicest overall exteriors out there. I really like how Acura hasn't felt the need to enlarge their front grilles like most others. The interior kills it for me tho. Dual screens and their dials just aren't visually appealing. Fixing that and their reliability issues will make them a worthy brand again.
U use the car for its features and practicality or for visual? Your eyes will be on the road 99% of the time. U dont have time to stare at the interior. Just to give u a different perspective. Imo

@@troytruong8246 I haven't dug to deep into specific issues because I haven't considered buying one, but I just know I lost interest in Acura shortly after the TL Type S left. This TLX and some of the smaller SUVs in their lineup have grabbed my attention tho lately, mainly because of their great colors like this red and similar blue. The ILX needs to go as it ruins their brand image. It's so damn cheap looking. Mazda has a more luxurious lineup than Acura, and they're not even a luxury brand.
Honda/Acura has some of the best manual gearboxes, so it’s a shame that Acura no longer sells them. I’d gladly trade in my WRX for the Type S, presuming the Type-S had a manual.
That 9 speed trans is the biggest reason I'll trade my 2018. It shifts hard when driving normal and doesn't perform well when I ask it to. I wish I was a fly on the wall when Acura was talking about needing to use that trans. They must have gotten some crazy deal on it or something. You'd think Honda/Acrua would be smarter about that. That J35 tho, is still a favorite of mine. Great V6 engine.
Austin Butler Yeah, I was looking at the TLX V6 but apparently, those 9 speeds aren’t too good. From my understanding, the 9-speed is developed from some outside company, which means that it’s not Honda quality. Honda should put their own 10 speed into the TLX.
If they had updated the infotainment a few years ago and threw in the 10 speed I think it'd be a great car. Still, it's very nice, fun to drive, and one of the few sporty sedans with a N/A V6.
Perk Here What will last longer, the upcoming I6 Mazda 6 Redesign or this Acura? I’ll bet my money on the Inline engine and enjoy the night/day interior. Funny how Mazda now has the premium interior at like half the price lol.
I will love for you to do a segment about how the luxury brand of these car segments are doing like ex: Toyota and Lexus how they are still selling and staying up to par with sales, unlike Acura and Honda, or infinity and Nissan.
I heavily considered the TLX A-Spec this year, this car would have been my dream to be honest, but that interior is straight out of 2010... I test drove and just couldnt fall in love with the interior. I went with the Accord 2.0 Touring instead. Maybe in 2021 I can snag up my TLX...

Acura just need 3 things to compete 1. New interior design, it’s basically a accord with nicer knobs inside 2. More performance, a baby nsx or a rwd car in general would bring some excitement. Yea I know the Tlx is a halo but it’s a forgotten hero 3. moe powah babee
Still dumb that they haven't revived the RWD platform in 2001. Adapt it with aluminum chassis materials, add SH-AWD with it, and upsize everything by one class!
I have a TLX SHAWD and an Infiniti G37x. The G37 is 7 years older and shifts so much crisper and responds to the paddles so much better. When you downshift on the TLX, it literally slurs up to the rev, like someone who just learned how to drive stick or something it's horrible. But, besides that, the car is pretty quick for what it is, and the SHAWD is no joke, way better than the system on my G37
Oh, and also I agree with you on the screens, they're not amazing, and the seats are kind of flat, versus the sport seats in my G that hold me in pretty well. However, if I go on a road trip or anything out of town I take the Acura. If you're interested in the Acura I recommend taking a look at the q50, it's honestly a better car in my opinion, if you can get over the steering. I'm getting rid of both cars soon and getting an Audi RS3, it's like a combination of both but 10x better lol.
These cars seem to depreciate like crazy compared to previous generations. They need to get back part of their soul and offer a sporty manual in a Type S configuration.

The 9 speed has been a thorn an Acura's side for years. How they have not replaced it by now is beyond me. In many ways responsible for ruining their reputation for quality and reliability.
Meanwhile they put the MUCH better DCT in the 4 cyl models, for who knows what reason. If they put it in the 3.5s it would actually be a blast to drive, especially with the SH-AWD.
Im a Honda guy thru and thru, I drive a Civic Touring and I would take a Honda over a Toyota any day, however, I do believe that as hard as they are trying, Acura has still failed to close the gap on Lexus and id probably be looking at a Lexus if I was shopping in this price range
I own one n I'll say most can't speak until owning one as it should be ...far as the 2021 as I've seen beyond the hype not to to much diff on outside styling maybe a bit but definitely not completely ...interior yes minus the daul screen which honestly i have no prob wit cause it look lit asf at night ...and if your talking bout the added kit dynamics and ambient interior lighting they have customizing shops 4 that as many of us do anyway along with exhaust mods n all ...n for all your HP needs this car was not a let down coming from Audi for many years not bad in my opinion
Why does this car even exist? Who said, I want a bespoke, midsized, outdated, Japanese luxury sedan? I feel like they just had a lot of factory capacity that they needed to do something with.
The amount of Mix feelings i've had on this car in the last 3 years. Don't know if i hate it or love it. when the redesign is here, this (a-spec) car will be dirt cheap. Could potentially get a great deal.
It doesn't. The SH-AWD is better than most other systems available. It controls each wheel individually. All they had to do was put the DCT in the V6 models, and updated the interior, and it would have been a GREAT car.
Back in 2015 everyone was waiting for the TLX to show up. And most were very disappointed. Some sold their cars that that had waited months to get. Acura should have dumped that 9speed trans and didn’t . It cost them dearly! Don’t hold your breath for the 2021 model, Acura seems to disappoint, with new models. They need to bring back the flash from the 90’s and early 2000’s . We should know soon ........
Depending on the pluming turbo 4cyclinders don't necessarily offer that much in terms of weights savings. Also they sound better and revs are fun. That interior is not great tho.
I really like Acura. I'm a two time owner. But I've never really thought of Acura as a "luxury" brand. It's more like a "premium Honda" which offers good performance for the money. But this interior is just sad. The Accord is nicer, imo. Kia Stinger is much nicer than this, and it's not even a premium brand! Acura has some work to do.
It's hard to put it on the short list. Does this model have the HUD or rear USB's? The competition has more horse power and interior amenities. Acura needs to get to G70 level. Or dive into the Honda portfolio of performance in Japan and send it to America straight not watered down. What do you think?
Quit with that nonsense. You're driving a Kia homeboy. You must not know jack about automobiles other than "I like it" 😂 I sat in a Kia Forte yesterday. It's NOT on the engineering level of this car. And this car debuted in 2014...Acura across it's lineup has OUTSTANDING residual value. Hyundai/Kia/Genesis do not.
If Mazda is releasing a RWD sedan that is supposed to be in the 300hp range, and other manufacturers probably (hopefully) doing the same.....I hope that Acura really distinguishes itself and makes it worth the price.
Credit the 97-01 Honda Prelude Type SH for providing the TLX and other Acuras the torque-vectoring technology in the SH-AWD. The Prelude had the ATTS (Active Torque Transfer System), which provided torque-vectoring to the front two wheels.
If theres a PMC MDX, I think I saw it on the road one time. I saw the PMC NSX at the DC Auto Show 2019 and it was crazy and beautiful to look at under a lot of LED lights
