Genesis manager: **Please don't mention Hyundai... Please don't mention Hyundai... Please don't mention Hyundai* * Doug: *It is the new full-size luxury sedan from Genesis... which is HYUNDAI's luxury brand* Genesis manager: *Goddammit!*
Doug would be a hell of a salesman. Selling you a couch: You dont even have to adjust the couch, it will tell you how to sit ! It's a quirk and a feature
For everybody that is saying its just a hyundai. Lincolns and mercurys are just fords. Caddilacs are just chevys. Acuras are just hondas. Lexus is just a toyota. Infiniti is just a nissan. Most car makers have a luxury department for higher end cars. Its nothing new.
@@ilovekitkat7857 : The said brand isn't known for its vehicles to hold on to their value, take a look at the UK for example, Sonata loses an estimated TWO THIRDS of their value after three years. If it was a Passat or Octavia (depending spec) totally different story altogether!.
David Manasas that’s awesome... but you’re definitely right about that. My next door neighbor daughter just brought one.) I must say it’s awesome.. for a Hyundai. She dumb her BMW M5.. go figure.) !! 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
Weird I was watching the doug score part and thinking the exact same thing and I glance down at the comments and see this perfectly centered on the screen
John Wayne He’s non biased and points out features as well as what he considers flaws. You may be right but then again that’s almost expected to not be perfect because the performance level at the price is crazy.
nik, you never do manuals? I order the gear, and start reading the PDF wile i wait till i can pick it up, i do that with all tech. i near to never buy shit...
I weirdly love the design, its different just like the LS, the LS is the only one I would pick over this, just because of brand loyalty, and more luxurious interior
I really appreciated your review of the 2020 Genesis. You were quite thorough. I am not looking to replace my Mercedes S-Class at this time but you got me thinking! One thing though.....you repeatedly call this a "cheap" competitor to the other luxury brands. I think that "less expensive" is a more forgiving description; especially since there is nothing cheap about this great looking car.
Man I test drove a 2020 g90; it was silver gold. It was the best ride ever! I was getting ready to get it and while I was test driving it, someone purchased it before I got back from the test drive! And it was the only one the dealership had on the lot! They told me they can’t keep them! I called all the dealerships in the city where I live and there was not a g90 at any dealership in the entire city! This car is that bomb!
An appealing aspect of the 5.0 V8 is that it is perfectly happy with 87 octane fuel and you get 400 hp. To get the full 420, you have to use premium 91.The Euro ones are premium required. I have an older version of this V8 in a Kia K900 and it is a beast of an engine. You cannot appreciate a V8 unless you have driven one. It's like vodka in a shot glass vs. a beer keg. Americans always smile when they see a keg at the party.
I have this TAU V8 in a 2020 G80 5.0 AWD Ultimate. Last year for a V8 G80. I drove the TT V6, but this V8 was WAY NICER, in my opinion. Apparently, it makes 411HP with regular gas, but I always use 91 or higher octane, for the full 420+ HP. I saw a black K900 several days ago. A RARE car on the road and very striking in appearance. With this V8, OUTSTANDING !!!
5.2 seconds to 60 on a big luxury barge isn’t exactly slow. We all expect so much more now than a decade ago. My LS460 is realistically a 6 second to 60 car and it doesn’t feel slow. At some point we are going to have to ask whether we can continue the horsepower race.
The idle time counter is to let you know if your chauffeur has been leaving the car on for hours while waiting for you. usually drivers aren't allowed to leave the car on just to enjoy the air-condition while waiting for you for you for hours. now there's a way to check
@@paladin3116 my grandmother's 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Ultimate had an issue with the oil and the engine blew up. Hyundai is only good for their warranties
Wow I didn't realize the Genesis name had been around here in the States for a decade now until your comment. Here's to hoping they bring back the Coupe with a proper 6 speed
@@somerandomperson6005 on the back at the barnyard wiki, theres an article about an episode where pig rapes everyone. I think they took it down but this was the wiki image :)
@@Vault13CanteenFNV yep, the equivalent g80 sedan has been out since about 2009. I have a 2010 with a 4.6L V8 and it has some crazy tech for a 2010! Might wanna look into the Genesis Essentia concept! They said it's not just some concept and they are seriously interested in making the car :)
Doug, why does this car have to feel like a Mercedes? Why can't it feel like something else? I understand people loving the "planted, bank vault" feel of a Mercedes or BMW but what if it offers something else and you don't notice it because you're not noticing how it is excelling at what it wants to be. German and Asian or South Korean cultures are quite different. What they may want to engineer in their cars may be something quite different than what the Germans put into Mercedes, Audi or BMW. So, maybe less comparisons with Mercedes and maybe just a general sense of how good it is at what it sets out to be should be the focus. A lot of viewers of car reviews get tired of the constant, doesn't feel German thing. Some people want a different feel, something that feels more British or Swedish or American or Japanese or, heck, South Korean. As far as the brand-name thing goes, who cares? Who needs some validation because of some brand name? BMW wasn't always some luxury brand name. Not in the USA anyway. It took Lexus time for it as well as Toyotas were considered economy cars until they weren't. Be in on a little secret and let others have to be into their brand names. Brand name is one the most overrated things in products.
Excellent points. Personally, I'm always irked by criticism of big, floaty cars not feeling "sporty". I mean, DUH. NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO BE A SPORTS CAR.
Most Americans are into name brands. Most South Koreans are too. I know because I've been living here for years. Black luxury sedans, suv's, and sports cars is a status thing out there. I'm not saying all Koreans think that way. BTW the reason the hyundai brands are looking like German cars is because of Albert Bierman. He was brought over from BMW and he was the Head of R&D Division for hyundai/Kia/genesis. Now he's the president.
Genesis reminds me of the bible, the oldest bible in the United states was written at Harvard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts. We need to get to that college to find our next clue. Wow this is like national treasure stuff guys omg
Man they really nailed this. Love the color combo too. I've been pretty much a BMW loyalist for quite sometime but definitely going to check this out when my lease is up. I hope it has Wireless Apple CarPlay. That's a hard feature to give up.
Doug, Genesis does not advertise Active Lane Keep as a self driving feature. It still requires you to drive the car, it just takes away fatigue of keeping the car centered in the lane. Really nice on long drives.
I have a 21 RWD 3.3T on order. I want a spacious highway cruiser. I care about impressing myself, and prioritize comfort, convenience, handling (compared to an SUV it's a sports car), features, and value, and the G90 best fits my bill. I love the wheels. When I ordered my car, the dealers were ordering them with the conventional spoked wheels that Genesis offers for 2021. I specified the original G-matrix mesh wheels instead: I think they are classic and beautiful. I ordered mine in Dec, and delivery is estimated for July 7. I can't wait. I've been seeing spy shots of the 2022 redesign, and it looks great. I'm happy to have mine now, and pay less--I'm thinking the price will go up.
I have an Aunt who lives in Vegas that drives a 2015 Genesis (rear drive) with 420hp V-8 under the hood (she bought it brand new)..once, during a visit, I mistakenly mock the car about what it can do, it being just a Hyundai. She said "let's take a ride"..so we did; she drove it from Vegas to Primm (about 40 miles) on I-15 north..we got there quicker than I could scream "oh, my God" over and over again - that car is smooth and freaking fast. I took over the wheel on our drive back to Vegas, went as fast as 95mph..needless to say, she mocked me all the way for driving so slow (lol). By the way, she was 66 years old then..she now lives in Miami and still drives around with that evil car//
It would have been a nicer presentation if it wasn’t out on a dirt road w woods in the background. I mean, we’re not reviewing a SUV or Truck here. Also I really, really like the G80 hope to own one someday. Haven’t seen the G90 in the flesh but looks awesome
Yeah well although it’s far from a mercedes s class, it gives the chance to the peasants to get a luxury car. Can’t argue that. I would simply get a used s class and get an extended warranty on it. Problem solved, the best of both world: best in luxury and best in price
I'm not a car enthusiast, nor I'm planning to buy a car. But, I liked this Genesis. Not because of affordable luxury, but overall, it has a nice vibe to it and it's a good looking car, both inside and outside.
