The best part about the Aviator is it takes regular 87 octane fuel. Unlike many luxury SUVs, it won't require premium fuel. When you fill a vehicle of this size, it makes a BIG difference. You'll probably save $20-$30 per tank depending on where you live.
It won't require high octane fuel, but I drive a twin turbo Lincoln from 2010 and mine doesn't require it either, but they say in the owners manual that though you can regularly put 87 octane in, they prefer higher octane fuel for performance reasons. I only put high octane in my Lincoln for the sake of a healthy car at it's old age. I'd imagine this Aviator will have the same thing written in it's owners manual which will make the dependence on high octane fuel debatable honestly. But you're right, it CAN run on 87 octane just fine.
@@man_on_wheelz That's good insight. There are two reasons Lincoln cars take regular 87 octane fuel. First, they save cost by being able to use similar engines as Ford. Second, a large portion of their sales are to fleet/taxi companies, who prefer cars that take regular fuel in order to make more profit per mile.
@@FuelEconomyTest Really good point, that's a really good point! The fleets probably do demand that they make it possible to put 87 in the tank which makes sense why they've made it so the car can still run on 87 even if the engineering of it typically demands higher octane. I know one thing, I love everything about my Lincoln MKS, I sure hope I can someday pick one of these up used in the future.
Lincoln is officially better than Cadillac in every way at this point. Styling, interior, features, even naming structure (I can tell the difference between an Aviator and Navigator, but I have to think for a moment which models are the XT4, XT5, and XT6

I’m glad you guys like the new Aviator. I’m very proud to be apart of Ford motor company. I’ve been employed by Ford 15 yes now ( Chicago Assembly Plant) where we build these. Both the Aviator & Explorers are well built SUV’s. In solidarity- UAW-FORD
Darrin, I just ordered my Aviator and I gotta tell you I have never been more excited about getting a new car in my 25 plus years of purchasing cars!!! Great job Ford/Lincoln!!
I'll keep daily driver (1996 Jeep Cherokee). I've replaced pretty all moving parts on the Jeep for a fraction of the cost of this mortgage payment vehicle. I want to be able to retire someday.
@Ike N Definitely not. It's a nice looking rig don't get me wrong. I just think with the price of new vehicles and all the things that can go wrong with them nowadays, I'd rather invest my money somewhere else. I'd like to see how this vehicle holds up in 20 years.
I was originally looking at this, then started leaning toward the Rivian R1S (put a deposit down), but having sat in the Black Label a few days ago with the luggage tan interior and massaging seats and all I can say is wow!!! My only trepidation beyond the price is that I do want to use it for camping and outdoor use from time to time, so the Explorer may be a bit better suited than the Aviator.
The Rivian will be better off road for sure. It has up to almost 14" of ground clearance, much better angles, and 50% more power. The Lincoln will be more luxurious and somewhat cheaper. Your can also buy it now, instead of waiting for the Rivian.
This automobile is far superior to ANY vehicle on the road today within $100k of the price. It’s like nothing I’ve ever encountered. Very smart design that is incredibly functional, and gorgeous. It’s got to be the most innovative car I’ve ever seen. Huge homerun.
This is an X7 competitor. Cadillac is more of an MDX competitor. But the X7, XT6, and MDX don't have a PHEV. So the Aviator could steal some model X sales too.
I just test drove a Reserve II and boy oh boy! I can totally justify the cost of the vehicle. Unfortunately, my pocket book doesn’t agree 😢 I’ll be checking out the 2020 Traverse Premier.
@@gondorian1006 Haha, i dont think so, the new 2019 is making 460hp and 420lbs of torque, it would be perfect, a few small mods and it's pushing 500+hp easy.
My Kia Soul will automatically find the nearest gas station when it's low on gas. One touch on the screen and it starts navigation. It also has keyless entry.
Leave it to Roman/TFLcar.com to be first out the gate with this post-Napa-event features review of the new Lincoln Aviator. It was disappointing to hear that he couldn't find true comfort in those elaborate 30-way "perfect position" seats. I will wait to hear/read the comments of other reviewers in this regard before taking on Roman's opinion. The 3rd row in these kinds of vehicles is essentially only suited for children, dogs and small adults, so seeing a large 6'2" fellow trying to fit back there is just plain silly. Would have liked to hear about the HUD unit on the Aviator, with its plethora of displayed info (as compared to most other auto brands) and it being friendly toward polarized sunglasses. Overall a decent (but pretty 'basic') features review, but I look forward to a proper test drive review. P.S. I really enjoyed hearing the comments of John Davis (Chief Program Engineer for the new Aviator) - obviously a very smart and well-spoken individual.
Very nice what Lincoln did, beautiful interior and smooth exterior, especially cool with rear light bar, ...but the exhaust pipes is such bad decision. It just makes it fake "quad" pipes. It's exhaust, it suppose to get smokey, either make it go down without pretending of straight tips, or keep it real going straight
As a proud Lincoln owner (2010 Lincoln MKS Ecoboost) looking at the direction Lincoln is going in, I'm starting to think my next car is gonna be a Lincoln as well. I drive my car for Uber and I can't even count the number of passengers that think my car is new haha! So they hold up very well if taken care of. I guarantee this Aviator will still be on peoples radar in 2030 and the untrained eye will think you're driving something brand new!
Not much to look at, but seems like a strong offering Will this overcome the Lincoln brand stench? Probably..... I like the proportions of the Corsair the best.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, folks. I personally rather like the design. It isn't meant to be edgy. It is meant to meet their new, "Quiet Luxury" standard, which, I believe it meets well.
Great interior, but Lincoln needs to update the electronics. Why does Sync in this vehicle have the same chime and voice as my Expedition? Why not allow users to select the startup sounds and change voices on the Sync interface?
Nice car when optioned out but base 50 60 even 70k its not good. I saw a 73k one live....was not impressed. Prob is noones gonna pay 90k for a lincoln thats supposed to compete with 60 70k range.
@@bextar6365 did you see in the news recently someone had been purchasing FORD on stock and it was a completely different company? 😂 please make sure you're investing into the right company
Brodie Knopf That’s not true. Cadillac lowered the price of the Escalade because the current model is 6 years old. They had to do something to keep sales coming in for the outgoing model especially with Cadillac customers knowing the new and improved redesign 2021 Escalade will be here soon. Had very little to do with the Lincoln which still doesn’t nearly as well as the Escalade.
This is sexy. I have a navigator, which I love, but do like the smaller package of the Aviator. The proportions are about perfect on the Aviator. Another homer for Lincoln, and to think, a few years ago I thought Lincoln was DOA.
Looks like it will be a strong offering from Lincoln. I'm glad they dropped the lame mkz mkt etc nomenclature and went back to their roots of actual names for their vehicles. Good job Lincoln!
Agreed. Named cars bring us on fantasy vacations like; Riviera, Eldorado, the Galaxy etc..... How does someone warm up to a series of numbers and letters. They’re so sterile.
I never understood why american luxury manufacturers stopped using their old nomenclature, names such as LaSalle, Deville, Cosmopolitan, Continental MK series to name a few. It just sounds so much better than the boring german or asian rivals and shows the American opulency and greatness much better, instead of boring acronyms and Numbers. Cadillac should go Lincoln’s route
Lincoln hit this car out of the park and into the lake. The Aviator is such a delicately designer car. I think it’s best in class in looks and when you consider the price, this is tough to beat.
@Marius Ipad - Planned Obsolescence? Ford's are Continuously Upgraded from year to year. So from one year to the next, makes the previous year obsolete. Hence Rapid Depreciation.
@@Ford_Raptor_R_720hp_V8 ---Rapid depreciation is more due to half assed development and then denying there's a problem---see Fiesta and Focus dual clutch trans. problem. If it wasn't for this being brought out in the open none of the people that bought these POS cars would have any recourse for repairs paid out of pocket for something that never should have went into production when it wasn't close to being sorted out at the R&D level.
@@robertjones7565 same as v8 4Runners which developed exhaust manifold cracks due to design flaw. Toyota never owned up to it despite numerous law suits. All auto manufacturers are guilty of that sort of thing.
@Marius Ipad Judging by brand is never good. I've got a 14 Escape and it's both a tank and a reliability star. No issues, just gas and oil/fluid changes.
That was a great review... That car will sell... Ford needs to give Lincoln more autonomy so that the next batch of products would still take them up a notch....
Wow wow wow!!! I'm a huge fan, it's the perfect size with amazing features and I am so glad they understand that for the more affluent client, they don't care about 40mpg a refuel is nothing more than an inconvenience of time, they want power!
Cameron D.F Chisholm my uncle owns a 2018 Q7 I drive frequently and I work for Jaguar Land Rover and I myself am a longtime BMW owner... So I know nice cars. And I agree with your statement! As long as this car is as nice to drive dynamically as the Q7 id rather have the aviator
I thought the same its size numbers on paper looked really really good. I looked at in person yesterday at our local dealer. I even brought my cloth tape measure I was confident this would be my next ride!! Nope!! The interior follows the theme of tight cockpit feel I flew planes for years even the Cessna 172 feels roomy compared to how the seating dynamics are in the Aviator!! I was shocked actually at how cramped it feels. Then came the rear hatch size you know busy dad with 2 kids and a dog stuff? The rear hatch is nearly identical to my 2010 Subaru Outback! Yes its smaller than the 2020 Outback rear hatch! These are just really big cramped feeling 4 seat sport wagons you guys. I would even go as far to say the Larger Audi Wagon / VW Passat has more open spacious feeling interior. I my shock / disbelief and disappointment was so obvious the sales guy said look this probably isn’t the right vehicle. Before I even was convinced it was all wrong for my needs.
jesse burnett Lol. The 2021 Cadillac Escalade hasn’t even been revealed yet so which Escalade is this nicer than? Oh! You must mean the 6 year old 2015 Cadillac Escalade that actually competed with the PREVIOUS model Lincoln Navigator? You’re comparing the 6 year old 2015 Escalade design to the brand new 2018 Navigator/ 2020 Aviator because to Lincoln fanboys that makes complete sense. 😂🤣😭🤦🏽♂️
This should win Motor Trend SUV of the year....no other SUV/truck out at the moment is more revolutionary than the reborn Aviator....well done Lincoln...too bad I can't afford one. Reminds me of when the groundbreaking Lincoln LS debuted for 1999 as a 2000 and won COTY.
@@jordancatcher6663 Terrible or not they're still recognized for their COTY awards globally. Car manufacturers and the public look at stuff like that and advertise it as so. I agree their journalism isn't what it used to be but neither is alot of others such as Car and Driver. RU-vid videos are the reviews today many look at, not magazine articles since alot of ppl don't buy magazines anymore lol
TheSisko4876 Agree! Motor Trend and Car and Driver are more interested in the Foreign Crap I have no interest in. They should each put out Import and Domestic separate editions
My wife wants an Explorer, I hope she never sees this video...my bank account couldn't handle buying this. What a beautiful luxury SUV. Great video as always.
If you’re looking at a mainstream level of trim for your Explorer then go for it by all means. If you pass the $50,000 mark go for the Aviator. The loaner cars and total Lincoln Concierge experience will be worth it.
@@EGGINFOOLS Is English your first language? Why did you say "hence Saab? The same reason your response to Tim was "hence Saab". Which by itself could mean many things. But if you connect it to the original question someone reading it can "fill in the blanks" and hopefully get your reference without writing a whole paragraph explaining it like I'm doing now. Funny how you could use a shortened phrase correctly, but are unable to interpret one? No, (the Aviator theme is not limited to Saab). Designers have been using aviation themes forever. Perspicacity: The parenthetical is implied, but not spoken.
I think this looks much better than the XT6. Saw an XT6 the other day and it lacked Cadillac's edgy straight lines. It just looks like another GM crossover.
I agree , I feel if the xt6 used art and science design language and put some flare of the escala like the ct6 , it would've been amazing. Xt6 design isn't bad , however it's certainly not the best looking of the bunch.
You can really tell that a true "capital D" Designer was in charge. Right away when he mentioned "sticking to the four pillars" I knew this was going to be thoughtful. Everything down to the armrest-cubby-clip-wireless-charging just blew my mind. It's just so incredible and makes my heart fly.
Stormy D. No it is not. This will compete with the newly redesigned short wheelbase 2021 Escalade. They will both compete in the RWD luxury SUV market with the X7, GLS, and Range Rover.
The door handle and spot where you put the key in emergency spot on the door actually has been around since the Continental came out a couple years ago
John Davis... You and your team knocked this OUT of the park! Excellent craftsmanship and attention to details! The Aviator is about to change the game!
The Aviator seems more competitive to the German luxury 3-row SUVs, while that XT6 is gunning for the less expensive Japanese luxury crossover/SUV models.
zd trn How so? The Lincoln Aviator’s infotainment system takes two years to load and boot up. Cadillac XT6’s design language is light years ahead of Lincolns.
Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Was that an actual complaint about having multiple ways to interact with the car?? God bless American made cars. They just can’t win with these reviewers. Same complaints would be praise had this been a Mercedes, BMW or Audi.
No, id say the same about the germans. Too many touch screen surfaces, buttons, and other garbage take up the driving experience. A simple radio, simple hvac controls, and an actual gear shift lever work just fine.
LRulesTheWorld Yeah it's classic and it's great but you gotta accept change. Keep in mind car companies have to please the majority to make sales. If you want a simple radio and a shifter go for the 4runner Trd. It's a great new 2000s suv. But I like where Lincoln has headed, they have to compete with the Germans to survive
This John Davis apparently says "fuel station" as opposed to the term gas station. I literally have never heard anyone call it that before. I get that it is technically speaking the correct term but it still sounds a bit pretentious to me.
And the Volvo doesn’t have an auto fold up feature; you have to manually pull the 3rd row back into place using a cord. In the aviator, it’s all automatic.
The Ford Explorer ST starts at $54,740.... the Lincoln Aviator starts at $51,100.... but thanks for playing, don’t bother the adults whom are actually out there buying vehicles.
@@josephwhiskeybeale I'll take the ST because its more my style, Im a blue collar type of guy. The Aviator seems more for a button up shirt and tie type of guy.
I like how there are some classic 60's details in the car, like the toggle for the exterior lighting and the push button transmission selector reminds me of classy cars from the early 60's
Jason W I have read all the Consumer Books and they cannot Stand Lincoln’s Push Button Shifter. I have a Lincoln and Absolutely LOVE IT AND ALL THE EXTRA ROOM IT PROVIDES along with the extra storage. PROGRESSIVE THINKIN LINCOLN!!!❤️❤️
@@FranFJB I like the buttons in the Lincoln. The car with the weirdest setup is my friend's Tesla Model 3. There's no physical controls for a bunch of stuff, like seat heaters and power mirrors....all of that is in the iPad style dash. May seem cool, but when the car is driving down the road, it is very hard to pick the correct "button" on screen. And for the passenger, it is annoying that I can't easily find how to adjust seat heater without being very familiar with the car. I'll take the Lincoln approach any day!
So, the seats everybody else says are perfection, you can't figure out.... in a car designed to dazzle you wish for less, well, pick a lower end model, your wish is granted.
I've always been a fan of Lincoln, and this vehicle is really nice. But I have 2 big issues, 1 is the overall styling doesn't stand out among the other 90 billion boxes on wheels enough... The other is this modern trend of having a television sticking out of the dash board instead of incorporating it into the dash itself! I swear each time I see that in a new design I hate it, looks like an after tought at least to me.
I’d love to see this car (specifically the Hybrid) race the Range Rover Sport, with the 5.0 V8 Supercharged. I think the Lincoln will be a really good competitor since it has SIX HUNDRED AND THIRTY POUND FEET OF TORQUE! 😱
Rhy Dynamic Except the Aviator’s power doesn’t provide much of any additional performance. It’s just numbers. I’ve read articles saying there isn’t *that* much of a difference in power feel at all. The hybrid system also adds an additional 800 lbs to the already hefty Black Label Aviator which makes for a harsher ride compared to gasoline only Aviators. Lincoln didn’t do anything to fix that either. Still, I would like to see this race. I wanna see exactly how bad the RR Sport would leave this thing, it may not be bad at all...perhaps even a close race?
The screen in the center of the instrument panel is really ugly. A large screen seems to be a necessity but where to put it is still a problem. Can it not be integrated into the panel somehow. It looks like a last minute afterthought.
Unbelievable. This looks amazing, such a breath of fresh air after all the german brands.. But why, WHY dont they offer a V8 with this? Why stop just right before crossing the finish line, why not go all the way?
Good job on the Aviator Lincoln! and Navigator of course. Now give us a high performance 4 door sedan that will compete with the Audi RS7, Cadillac CTS-V , ect. Hey just drop the Mustang engines in them (Shelby's and 5.0's)
