They also just happen to BOTH be all-new at the same time this year too! I have an X5 and my wife has a GLE. Both are great cars and I totally agree that it comes down to preference. She prefers the luxury feel and I prefer the sportier feel. The X5 is noticeably faster and way more fuel-efficient also.
Have been looking at these two cars for several months, eventually, picked 2020 X5 in the end. The X5 is really a beast in size, but agile like a leopard on the road. Truely awesome!
@@adityag485 BMW is more conservative when it comes to exterior renovations. I'm like a conservative person, so BMW is the green light for me. Mercedes Benz changes its exterior looking all the time, to an extent where I can hardly tell the difference between a C class and AMGs
Thank you comparing these two particular cars. I've been agonizing over which one to purchase as a CPO. I have always been a BMW person and loving my brand new 440xi hard top. You convinced me to pursue the X5.

Bong Lim I only wished they shown the 63 instead of the base model. It would’ve changed the perspective of how it looks. I’ve been a Mercedes fan for 14 years.
I have the M class 4Matic..had two X5's ...got tired of them. Once you drive a Mercedes there is no going back:)) Interior in the new GLE is mindblowing. Better than Tesla, more options, and intuitive. Love it! Benz for me
@D G Yeah, I'm over it now. I was all pumped when they came out, now, nothing special. X5 does look better front and back. At least they got the interior much better
I agree, would choose the x5 too, but active body control on the GLE is 7-8 grand, so in comparison they prices aren't nearly as different. I'd say 5k max if similarly equipped
Just ordered the X5. Drove the two back to back and the bmw has better interior quality. From the leather quality to useable tech and driving dynamics. Mercedes is also adding 2500 here in New Jersey for amg package on gle450. Mercedes looks newer and more modern but from everyday use and wireless Apple CarPlay to the parking assistant that autonomously remembers how to get out of a parking space based on how you got in there, bar none it’s the better package. Leave everything aside from their rivalry as car manufacturers. People say Mercedes is better and some say BMW is better. It's all about preference. To me personally, when it comes to SUVs, the BMW have been the best looking SUV since the beginning pretty much. I'm not talking reliability nor performance. All I'm saying, to me personally has been the best looking SUV. Now on their cars lineup, in recent years (maybe 5 years to date) I also believe the BMW looks better on all cars. But before the Mercedes Benz went with their "round" looks, I think Mercedes was the best looking cars. I love Mercedes designs before 2015...they looked so cool. If it's all design, today I would pick a BMW all day any model too. If it was 2014 or before, I would've picked Mercedes Benz.
I agree the round front & round butt Mercedes got going on is not my thing neither & that minivan gear lever forget about it most driving enthusiasts will always pick BMW over the Merc
Me and the wife chose the x5 m package over the gle53 bc it’s 6600 lbs which means I can write off 50k over 2 years which saves me about 15-20k in taxes so the car is really 55k and it’s awd. That was the main reason. Also it looks a little better but the gle looks better inside and a little nicer quality inside. But the savings and the styling is what got us.

This cemented my decision! I was going back and forth between the two, teetering towards the X5 for several reasons. One of the biggest was the sportier feel. The other was the option of having a split tailgate. Arguably my favorite feature on any SUV. I think I’m ready to pull the trigger! Now for colors! Any suggestions of a palette you guys enjoy on the X5? Let me know! Leaning toward mineral white with either coffee of cognac, with the fine line trim.
The Mercedes looks better, the interior hands down better to look at and the tech is just a huge step up. The bmw always going to be sportier drive.. but never as good as a luxury suv. For me it the Gle that I want .. although not in white
Great review, i’ve always been a fan of Mercedes cars but i have to hand it to BMW i think it’s styling is better and more up-to-date than what the Mercedes is and the fact its cost less looks better unfortunately i personally think even though the Mercedes is a new a car it still looks old and boring on the outside
Unlike a lot of people, including the reviewer, I prefer the X5's screens and dials, because they look properly integrated into the dash, unlike the GLE screen which looks like a tablet stuck on to the back panel!
So we should all settle for buying 3 year old technology in 2022 then? Maybe we should go to our local AT&T/Verizon store and see if they have any Samsung Note 4's/IPhone 5's in their back storeroom for sale in 2019.

Didn’t compare apples to apples. The Mercedes cost more because it had options the BMW didn’t have. To make a fair price comparison, both vehicles need to have the same types of options and packages.
Exactly he made it seem like the mercedes is a better overall vehicle while driving then say the bmw is better because the merc has too much that he does not need but thats saying the car is better but im a bmw fanboy
Just tried 2020 GLE. As a experience driver, I will say the sitting space condition in GLE is not very comfortable when compare to BMW X5. I more turn to BMW X5 than GLE. Well GLE's interior design is a bit better, but will not change the driving-comfort if you drive a long distance or what.
Any car can be reliable if taken car of. Most of the people, are not car people and just pick cars for their looks and don't take car of them. I own and had owned German cars and they have more than 100k miles. I take car of their maintenance on time and I have had an excellent history with BMW and Mercedes Benz. Any car can be reliable or unreliable, it depends on their owners whether they last or not.
@Ameer K I payed my cars in 4 years, take care of them (which if you take care of them, maintenance is not expensive as they make it seem). Then I keep that same car somewhere around 8 years or more. You have any idea how much money I save by owning and not renting? This German cars are very reliable. People who rent them thrash them and then say their unreliable...lol. I personally think there's nothing smart on renting for the rest of your life and pretending that you don't spend any money on maintenance. They're already charging everything on the monthly payment.
The video is alright but why not get 2 cars to compare that are similarly equipped? They should do the X5-M40i vs GLE400 rather than a much higher priced Mercedes
The problem with this comparison is that these two are not similarly equipped. The MErcedes has everything including the best sound system you can get in a car, the Burrmiester...the BMW does not have the B&W sound system, the luxury package. If this was a option for option comparison, the pricing for both would be nearly identical.
8:51 - The modular look of that screen makes it look less premium to me. The way the screen sits “on top” of the vents, makes it look like an afterthought. Integrated would’ve definitely made it look more premium to me.
I bought the 2020 X5 with the premium enhanced package. The vehicle is loaded with features. I am going to wrap it in a Metallic grey vinyl and get black rims and some fat ass tires.
I thought in the beginning I would have liked the BMW. I like the exterior of the BMW but the inside of the Benz too. I'd rather luxury than sportiness.
I want the more luxurious option. Don’t care for speed or sport- I’ll go to the gym to be sporty and to the amusement park for speed 🎢. I want a smooth driving safe luxury car. I’ll pick the Mercedes. They both look great but prefer Mercedes. Really don’t like that they put the gear stick next to steering wheel though 😬
X5 exterior looks better, but the Gle looks good too (infact this is the best the Gle has ever looked). Both interiors are beautiful...i prefer the bmw but the long entertainment screen on the gle possibly gives it the edge as far the interior goes!
when you were in the back of the mercedes, you said the recline was behind the seat? did you check the door for the reclining controls? I saw them, did you not see them?
Great Review I have done the build for both cars being careful to have the same options on both cars and found the BMW to be more expensive. Actually the base price of the BMW is about 5K more than the Mercedes
As always a great review. Would have been enhanced with more detail on base and options to understand the price differential. I have an ML350. Really like it. That new straight 6 would have 100 more HP and 100 more ft lb than my V6. Got to love that. When I first got it, I was a little put off by the column shift but id didn't take long for me to love it. Just cleans up the center for more junk. LOL Can't go wrong with either of these but my experience with the ML350 would make me think long and hard before a switch. But I would look. The back seat comfort for long hauls and the bit of extra cargo capacity in the GLE might do it more me. 3 people a dog and a cat make you want more room.

Your comment at about the 5:50 mark that the exhaust is integrated into the rear bumper is not exactly true as those are fake exhausts tips in the 450 bumper, just as on the GLE 350. You have to get the AMG exterior package (for another $3k+, which would have pushed the sticker on that over $100k!) which adds "functional sport exhausts" that "breathe" through the bumper on the 450 only. Also, when you comment that there's a $20k+ price difference between the GLE and X5, 2 options alone (the e-ABC suspension and upgraded Burmester stereo account for over $13k of that difference and are certainly not necessary options IMHO). The GLE 450 base price starts at around $62k, including destination - we ordered a nicely equipped GLE 450 for "only" $68k and are very happy with it after 1 month of ownership. Good review overall though!!
Watching this review in 2022 as I'm now considering these 2019/2020 models. Moving from a first generation XC90 and have found the split tailgate a real plus. Looks like the Beemer will win.

Metro Music I rather pay less for a vehicle that still comes with a lot of the features that won’t break down on me and depreciate faster than anything and BMW you have to pay for basically anything you want smart key access pay you want a premium sound system you have to pay so I don’t see why you passed such a smart comment
@@piyush6089 Most people lease these vehicles....and all those things you mentioned are 100% covered under warranty and depreciation isn't an issue when you lease. And all Acuras / Infinitis / Lexus you need to pay more for upgraded sound too. In no universe is Japanese luxury a better car than German luxury.

I reviewed the 2020 GLE 350 4Matic on my channel and I gotta say it’s an impressive all-around luxury SUV. Infotainment is super techy and user friendly and easy to learn. Very comfortable seats and a smooth ride! Power is on the GLE 450. I looked at the X5 and I’m yet to get my hands on it. It is an impressive SUV. Love it’s trunk closing feature! BMW is easily the easiest bargain. It's maintenance package, at no cost, doesn't even compare to Mercedes' costly maintenance, and that's why I went to BMW
Both looks expensive but both cars are rich mid 30 mom cars to me. Bmw is little bit more like a mom car who lives on Sunset Blvd vs Mercedes is little bit more like a mom who lives on Beverly Hills. But please keep in mind that both moms go to Whole Foods to buy a grocery and Kreation to buy juices. They both eat salad for lunch and sushi for dinner. However, BMW moms spend more time on Instagram than Mercedes moms. Mercedes moms tend to gossip a little more than BMW moms. If you like more simple dishes and eat at the less showy restaurants, I’d suggest you to take a look at Volvo XC90. I don’t go into details of Escalade moms. Let’s face it, we all know you gotta be a Jewish mom and rich to drive Escalade. I hope it helps 😉

If I had to buy one it would be the Mercedes-Benz due to them being SUV's and it tech feels very advanced and its new inline 6 is a torque monster. This new X5 looks a lot like the GLC from the side, which I don't like that they done that. But its very smooth and refined, but beware on the bimmer the lane keep assist is overly aggressive, and will almost yank you into the other lane if you don't flip the signal fast enough.
The GLE350 has 255hp and let me tell you, it is absolutely woeful. The standard X5 has 335hp and is more than adequate. The nicer GLE450 has 365hp AND an electric motor and is brilliant. The X5 is sportier and stiffer and it feels like the Mercedes if the Mercedes is in Sport+ mode all the time. The wife chose the Merc. After all, she drives two hours in rush hour traffic each day, not on winding roads, so it was a no-brainer.
Would love to see the windows sticker of each car. I'm looking at a GLE and the base sticker is around $61K for the 450 so would love to know what's in a $91K version.
Even the factory estimates are 5.1 or 5.2... not 5.5. MB powertrain gets beaten at every level now... whether it's the 4, 6, or 8 cylinder versions. It's really disappointing considering a 7 second 0-60 time is what Hyundai can do with their Palaside on non-premium gas V6.
Wtf? 🤔 7:36 - These leather seats are a $1,400 upgrade. 7:24 - These seats are only heated, you have to upgrade to a luxury package which will include ventilation and massaging functions. Only in Germany do you have to upgrade your seats *TWICE* just for them to be ventilated. And only on German vehicles does this seem to be acceptable to Soyfan. Lol
Recently got chance to drive both of these cars Driving Pleasure 💯 % BMW , Merc is no drive pleasure but good music system and good rear seats, for driving any day BMW no second thought.
I am merc driver. Bought X5 a weak ago. I feel road in X5. Its not comfy at all compared to Merc. I like look of X5. Majority of people like X5 but i feel road bumps in it. Please let me know is there something wrong with me feelings or what.
