The original Cadillac Escalade was a reaction to Lincoln’s Navigator and clearly a Chevy Suburban with a new grille and leather seats. Generation five shares almost no body panels or interior components with other GM SUVs. It has a completely different attitude, look and feel. The new independent rear suspension combined with Magnetic Ride Control gives it athletic moves. Seriously. Tom Voelk checks out a well-equipped Premium Luxury model and finds it to be the best Escalade ever. And thirsty.

I'm probably 20 years away from wanting a vehicle like this (for $80K I'd go F-Pace SVR), but this is flat out spectacular. The "bling" is there, but far less than you'd expect and it looks better because of it; much more mature. The tech, the power, the agility, the comfort....wow. When you are going this big, you probably already have another vehicle for your sporty needs. I love the X5M and similar but once I need a bigger SUV, I find the Euros less appealing. This or Navigator only in this size class. GM will sell fleets of these.

Although 420 horsepower is plenty I’m still surprised that Cadillac hasn’t increased the horsepower of the 6.2 liter V8 considering the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator offer more from their 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6. The 6.2 liter V8 in the Cadillac has been rated at the same 420 horsepower for a couple generations now. I’m surprised that we’re not getting at least an optional 500 horsepower V8 in the Escalade by now.

The escalade makes a decent case for itself, but GM is their own worst enemy with this, offering the denali for 80k offers you 90% of the vehicle for 75-80% of the price. In the body on frame nature of this platform, they share the frame, end to end. mechanically on the body they are identical, and you need to get into the top trim of escalade (base price 95k) to get things like air ride suspension, which you can get in the denali and at4 for the mid 70s. Also a lot of interior features are shared. From the second row back on the interior the vehicles are identical, with actually more practicality in the denali (more cubbys in the doors). What really suprised me was the lack of ventilated second row seats in both vehicles, a feature found on a 45,000 dollar palisade. For the front row the seats, dash and console are different shapes and made with different materials (and the escalade has a lot more screen) But personally I think the denali has the better looking, interior that resembles more of the audi/porsche/lambo/bentley interior, whereas the escalade looks like a hybrid of the GLS and X7. I actually prefer the looks and design of the denali, and other than software locks that keep the augmented reality nav and supercruise out of the denali, and the insane speaker setup, you really aren't missing out on much for 25k. Also the diesel is going to change the game with all these SUV's, as the low end torque and fuel economy will bring a whole new aspect to these that nothing can compete with.
@DrivenCarReviews
@DrivenCarReviews 3 года назад
There might be a few people defaulting to Denali to save some money but GM did an excellent job of differentiating the product this time. Almost none of the interior is shared with GMC or Chevy ( I believe the 2nd and 3rd row seat frame structure, headliner and optional entertainment system are it). We will see...

I wonder how the huge OLEDs up front will prevent screen burn- in, especially displaying the same static images for long periods of time? My guess: Cadillac hasn't even thought of that problem. @@Mgoblagulkablong What percentage of europe would you say the poser crowd make up, 25%? Where in europe are you that makes you able to speak about an entire continent? According to the website, carsalebase, in 2019 there were 160 Cadillac Escalades sold in across Europe and the previous year was a bummer year with 413. The US consulates could still make up a sizeable proportion of this number so again, where in Europe are you seeing all these posers which proves that my original statement is just "simply wrong."

@Mgoblagulkablong 3 года назад
@@AW4WAL You wrote that only US embassy staff drives them and that is wrong, FACT. I never wrote they sold a lot. Also most who buy one don't buy one from the Cadillac dealer but a used import, so those won't show up in new car sales numbers. Why you get mad and act like a child, you have issues...
@AW4WAL
@AW4WAL 3 года назад
@@Mgoblagulkablong Why do you think I'm mad? Why would you edit your own response to such an irrelevant comment; do you think it is childish? Anyhow, it's neither here nor there. Firstly, What is this video about; new or used Cadillac Escalades? Neither the video creator nor I were talking about used vehicles. You're technically correct, you never said they sold a lot; glad you are pointing out 'facts': I also never said "only" embassy staff drove them, since you want to be pedantic; My exact words were, "Those are pretty much the only...." Now, I'm not sure as to what level your grasp of english is at but, clearly you don't know what that meant. Don't worry, it just means, approximately or almost. Now, as I've stated before, 160 Escalades were sold across Europe in a year that's across 27 different EU countries plus the others. If you compare that to say, Mercedes Benz S class, I think you'll see which maker is the "epitome of luxury". Finally, here's a tip, you might wanna turn you're sensitivity down some, it seems to need calibrating because I don't know what you'd like a response to be, love poems or what, so as not to frighten you.

This is a great effort by Cadillac, but I'd give up half of these bells and whistles in favor of a better exterior and that is exactly why, in my opinion, the GMC Yukon Denali is the better buy at 84k loaded. I don't think your driving experience would differ very much. I actually prefer the Yukon Denali trim of all in this generation of GM triplets.

Either every dime. GM motors have long life spans. Keep this baby in the garage when not used, drive it with love and keep it many many years. I enjoyed my yukon for 14 years and sold it still looking and running great.

GM motors have a history of being the least reliable of all time, garaging a vehicle for longevity = fragile junk, smh.

@@kingchakazulu7762 absolute nonsense!!! The 5.3 is a winner! The 6.2 is so good, they make an outboard motor out of it.

I live next door to a children’s ballet school. This “car” is the vehicle of the “take the 4 year old to class then go to Whole Foods” set. They need a pink one.

I hate to be that guy who complains about OLED technology being put in new places, but I do wonder if, like on OLED TVs with static interfaces, the screens might suffer some burn-in. Usually brands switching to OLED are very careful to tell everyone about the measures they’ve taken to avoid burn-in, but I’m not hearing much of that from GM. I hope it’s not an issue, because gosh is it ever nice in that cabin, and OLED is exactly the technology that car screens should be using. I’m sure that will make it feel expensive at night in a way that LCD panels just can’t manage. Thanks for the night footage! With all these new cars and their special interior lighting, having shots of it at night is really nice.

GM has pretty demanding durability testing when it comes to electronics. I don't know how it's been tested but that wouldn't be a concern to me. And this is not the first OLED screen is a car so other manufactures have probably been testing as well.

@@DrivenCarReviews Well, good to hear a vote of confidence! There have been other OLED screens in cars? I’m not aware of any!
