MW has a great place in my heart. As an 80's car lovin' child in Mexico City it was the only related program I could see because I was fortunate enough to have cable tv in those days. I really love the retro reviews also, and watch every new video they put out.
I loved my 99 Tahoe. White with tan painted bottom and tan leather seats. Rode very smooth and never gave me any issues. Best truck I've owned. Wish they still made them like that.
I love the Motorweek way of reviewing cars. They are straight, highlighting the important features very objective and also introduce the cars in a very professional way. Congratulations John Davis! You and your crew are the best! I loved the new Suburban/Tahoe.
My 99 tahoe 4x4 tahoe with pretty much mid level trim" pretty much cd player and rear air was the only mentionable added options i could find other than Z71 package", was around 33k according to the window sticker. Adjusted for inflation that's right under 50 k today. So over 20 years it hasn't gone too far up in price surprisingly. Still seems like a lot of money though.
That 7.1sec to 60 has gotta be the slowest times I've ever seen from an L87 V8. The old Tahoe RST ran to 60 in 5.7secs, and the old Escalade in 5.9secs. This Tahoe weighs nearly the same as the old model, despite being larger. Was it super hot out, MW? Something just seems off. Also of note, premium fuel is "recommended", not required. It is best used in towing and for max performance. Otherwise, great review Motorweek. As John said, it is "FULL FRAMED AND UNASHAMED"!!😊
I'm sure it would still be outperformed by today's v6 turbos (emissions, mpg, etc). I'm certain this comment by you wasn't the first time they thought of this.
Chevy wants to be taken seriously. They need to emulate super cars if they want the Corvette to be a super car. Which is what the Corvette has been trying to do since day one. Like if Honda wants to be taken seriously in the large SUV/full size truck segment.. they have to offer F/R body on frame designs like Toyota does.
@@Bartonovich52 if Chevy wanted to be taken seriously they could start by not ripping off the Corvette's balls and turning it into a bargain-basement Ferrari
Motor has been a part of my life since it started, except for a few years I was in Spain, Sicily and when I was out to sea. I always look forward to seeing the next episode. I used to get 12 car magazines, but none of them compared with Motorweek.
We would have but we already uploaded it a few years ago! Here's the link for those who haven't seen it yet: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MgGrAxGHcUc.html
96+ was at least ODBII. The vortec engines have reliability issues with fuel system. The 2000+ are better mechanically but the interiors are crap. Put an LS in a 96-98 3/4 ton suburban or a Tahoe and you’ve got the perfect family hauler.
Reviewers generally test the nicest/highest trim level offered to give a fair review. It's been that way for a long time now... but you can still find reviews online (mostly amateurs) with the 5.3 motor...
The interior materials are definitly better than last year but still mediocre for the price. A co worker of mine just got a 2021 tahoe and the panel gaps are pretty un sightly at that price tag not to mention it underwhelms in performance dept also.....
Since when does a huge SUV need performance? I mean this is not meant to go 0-60in under 6 seconds (that is typically a quick vehicle). And a first year will have issues. I will agree that the price is silly. I would wait a yr or 2 and buy used then
The Tech Librarian I get sticker shock looking at the prices of new full size suvs. They’re really counting on 72 month financing for most families it seems?
The problem with the Land Cruiser is that it's the forgotten step child of Lexus at this point. And they do it intentionally. Oh, you want that option??? You'll need to come over here and pay at least 25% more for the same basic vehicle with a whole lot of stuff you probably didn't want just to get one item you wanted.
Unless you're offroading constantly, the Tahoe is the better daily ride. Though nobody can discount the Land Cruiser's chops in reliability and resale, but there too, the GM triplets hold their own(especially the GMC Denali).
0:45 I don’t know but being able to see “through” the rear suspension from behind just looks weird to me. I wonder how heavy duty it really is. Those control arms look pretty thin.
Looks like the aftermath of the Ford Excursion, from like some 20 years ago, coming back to the SUVs, that are the few, that are on the truck based platform.
So glad you mentioned the disproportional roof structure above the front doors. Way too short compared to the rest of the roof. From the top of the windshield to the B pillar is just odd looking. I thought I was the only one and you're the only other person who has noticed this. Why hasn't anyone else noticed this or said anything? Just terrible looking.
Bought a 2019 with 16K just last month, but saw the new 2021's on the lot and the 2021 has a LOT MORE ROOM on the inside compared to the last body style. I just couldn't see paying $20K more for that room however...
I test drove the Tahoe LT at 60k msrp and it's nice ride actually. Don't look at the high country too much money. I personally like the design and interior ...way bigger than previous generations.
I'm willing to bet more body-on-frames would sell if they cost less than they do. Plenty of GM's full-size SUVs make it out into the market in spite of their prices, so imagine it if these things were reasonably stickered. Sure, there's bound to be lots of people who will just like the crossover formula better, but if there were more, and more reasonably priced body-on-frames out there, it might surprise us how many more people like 'em that way.
Get a Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna. This thing is a dinosaur even when brand new. It handles like the Titanic, has the fit and finish of typical of GM products.
The Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, and the Cadillac Escalade account for 50% of all large SUV sales in the US. GM makes 340,000 of them every year and exports about 80,000 to 31 countries. They’re made in GM’s plant in Arlington, Texas, which is said to be the most profitable assembly plant in the world. We estimate they generate $20 billion in revenue for GM and about $4 billion in profits. Autoline Daily.
This thing is so ugly. No getting used to this. The last gen was stunning when it came out. I couldn’t imaging it being eye candy for anyone looking for an SUV.
You don't buy a full size SUV for eye candy. That would be a sports car, you buys these for function. I don't think it's bad looking especially in the more blacked out RST trim.
People who own these want room but also the ability to tow serious weight... large campers, boats, etc. Those who have these extras in life can generally afford to pay for a Tahoe/Yukon. If the price looks too high to you, GM isn't catering to you in the first place. And I'm not saying that to be snobby it's just the truth.
I agree. They made them longer to add room to their third row... but I say, why do these need a third row?? Suburban and Yukon XL have plenty of third row room. I love my 2020 yukon because I can fit it into my garage, you can't do that with the newest model.
I noticed that you're not showing the braking from 60-0 anymore (at least on screen). Have you guys stopped performing that for the road tests? If so, could you explain why? Thank you.
It doesn't look too bad, but the previous model looked a lot better. The gauges they went 10 steps backwards on, incredibly boring looking. The L87 6.2 is GM's first truck V8 that requires premium now apparently. Also this thing literally has no launch. I think I'll stick to a GMT800.
@@CoryMatthew87 I’m already figured out. I live on my own and have no car payment again. I buy my own food and pay my bills. I don’t need you to tell me what I am. 😂 have a good day sir.
@@vegasbab.y3740 that's exactly what a 20 year old would say. Too funny! Come back in 10-12 years and re-read your comments. You'll be laughing at yourself. Have a good evening.... :)
over the next few years id like to see. If chevy owners stick around. Premium fuel for your domestic suv! Lexus, acura, nissan, etc i can see but a Tahoe!!
The 6.2L is the only engine that recommends 93 octane. The 5.3L which is very strong will run on regular 87. If you haven't been in a Tahoe in awhile you'd be suprised they are luxury vehicles
Okay, I'm confused. How the hell did you manage the 0 to 60 time @ 7.1 seconds with the 420 horsepower motor?? That model is generally clocked at late 5-second range on its 0 to 60 runs. Unless you got a model with something wrong with the transmission, I think somebody either flubbed something, or you must've tested the 5.3L.
6.2 is the only option for high country trim. High 5 seconds is not very realistic though and 7 seconds is a lot more realistic and I would say even good. The f150 raptor barely breaks 6 seconds and it has more power and torque, a sport suspension, aggressive gear ratios, and is considerably lighter.
Sales dont lie though. Tahoes have sold well since their debute in 95, the LandCruiser on the other hand is getting discontinued in the US due to years of poor sales. If they brought a base LC that was equivalent to an LS trim tahoe and didnt have adjustable suspension theyd probably sell much better
There's some serious gas spenders out there.Saw someone at a gasl station with a newer Surburban.Wouldve gave anything to see how it cost to fill that monster up!
I live in ground zero for these rigs Dallas Texas and I see tons of these GM trucks all over the metro here VS POS V6 turbo EXPEDITIONingandNAVIGATORingforarecall Furd POS.
Carrington Hollister Have fun with those piece of shit cars and all those recalls I know a few people who work at a Ford dealer who would never drive one. One guy in parts dept ended up buying a new Tahoe. Now that was fucking hilarious
Let's say I have $70K for a car. I'd better buy 1999 K1500 Suburban LT for $5K. Spend another let's say $30K on restoring it and I'll have a ready-for-everything Suburban for the rest of my life. Simple and very reliable truck. I'd never buy this one. GM spoiled it really bad. Same with Silverado and Tahoe. $70K... In 5 years they'll lose about $25K for nothing. Not to mention new ones are mechanic's attention demanding. Now they require premium gas. Premium gas - 2022 really??? MPG is still not great. For over 22 years they just go only 2-3 miles further on one gallon - so much for improvements. Manufacturers just wanna pull more money out you pockets.
I hate the new Tahoe and Suburban’s styling. The rear end now looks like a Ford Expedition, all flat assed and the stupid chrome strip across the tailgate looks terrible. GM’s infotainment is horrible too, and the analog gauges look like they belong in 2005. The center stack just looks so cheap. For the kind of money one of these things costs, I would be going for an Audi Q7, BMW X5 or X7, or Mercedes-Benz GLE/GLS. At least all of those vehicles actually look decent outside, have more efficient and powerful engine options and don’t look like they share their interior parts with a $29,000 base model Chevy Silverado 1500 work truck.
Faster than ever 👍🏾 yes But they are nothing but a very expensive bunch of plastic that can easily get damage Not like the ones you used to advertise in the 80s 👀Remember 👴 old man????
That machine is a piece of shoe until it has been out in the market for few years and the independent technicians have had time to take it apart and show the world that is still a bipped out product or not Billionaire dillweeds that own the damn company who cash out what little bit of quality it originally had.
