Prof. Nussbaum is such a role model for the importance of ambitious , humble, and relevant scholarship for society! Most (social science) scholars, unfortunately, are not like her. A delightful interview - you can feel her passion for intellectual breadth , sharpness, and a willingness to evolve and self-correct! Looking forward to seeing her in Antwerp this September at the HDCA annual conference!

What MArtha Nussbaum is describing about cognitive emotions builds on the brain region called Anterior Cingulate Cortex (ACC). Doctor Thomas Adam found direct evidence that ACC is involved in making model-based predictions of the specific consequences of actions, not just whether they are good or bad,” said Dr. Akam. Moreover, ACC neurons also represented whether the outcome of actions was expected or surprising, thereby potentially providing a mechanism for updating predictions when they turn out to be wrong.

25:25 yes disgust is a tricky one for me. I must use this continually at my work. People have vary different foods they enjoy. Sometimes I think it's gross but must show no emotion on it. Nor make a judging remark. It's not animal btw, it's sugar.

The strange thing about America is how class status tied itself to academia after the 1950s. The result speaks to the divisions or disconnects in society. For example, host this in a local Chicago park to make it accessible. Bring kevlar vest too.

To say a baby’s cry is undifferentiated flies in the face of parental experience! The experience of feeling loved is a cognitive emotion that is critically important and goes unmentioned.

Perhaps it takes an unbiased child-free person to perceive undifferentiated crying. Also, this has nothing to do with the context she was using the term in.

@@planetvegan7843 we are all biased and as adults we are all responsible for, and therefore the opposite of “child free. Is there a context I am missing? Another adult responsibility is to be open and listen.

A platitude is a trite, meaningless, or prosaic statement, often used as a thought-terminating cliché, aimed at quelling social, emotional, or cognitive unease. The statement may be true, but its meaning has been lost due to its excessive use.

And of course, most Indians also do not feel a strong emotion of compassion for Americans, or indeed anyone else. Truly a galaxy brain level of insight here
