FINALLY! I've been awaiting your review! So here's the trick to ordering a GW: Go with the Obsidian in Series II/III! Due to the styling and upright back, the Wagoneer doesn't do "bling" very well, especially the window surrounds, which causes a lot of side profile visual distortion. It looks way better without the chrome. As for the overall Grand Wagoneer, its hard to argue that it is not a true luxury player except in name. The interior is a knockout(odd that your door panel was hard plastic at the bottom where all Grand Wagoneers I've been in have been soft touch plastic. Possibly due to being a press vehicle?), up-to-date on tech, has the requisite comfort, and has room that must be measured in acreage. Then the cherry on top is the new Hurricane. It is a marvel of a modern engine. FCA/Stellantis put the engine through nearly 20 million miles of development for 6 years. One trick they did was made the turbos parallel as opposed to sequential. In doing so, you get all of the power, all of the time with virtually no lag. Just a few callouts: Your testing of the Hurricane is consistent with what I've seen elsewhere. It is astonishing that this big brute is just .03 slower than an Escalade V, despite a 170hp disadvantage and weighing 200-500lbs more.(and this is before SRT gets their hands on it). However, neither Hurricane **requires** premium. The Hurricane L.O. recommends 87 regular, whereas the H.O. recommends 91 premium for top performance. While the Escalsde may be more stylish on the exterior, I don't think the interior is as polished, especially the rear seat area. The Series III is a real treat!
I agree about the lower door panels, I've sat in a level 1 GW when the wife's old Ghibli was in for service and seem to remember literally testing that area to see if it felt like Chevy Cobalt plastic and I recall it being soft touch. The new Hurricane I-6 is a beast and definitely one of the most impressive attributes of this truck now besides the still-impressive interior. I don't think I'll ever fully warm up to the exterior though, although I personally think the chrome window surrounds are classy-ish and compliment the slab-sided design well, but I hate the too-similar Grand Cherokee front end of these, not premium-looking enough to my eyes. And I still think Jeep designers could have made those raised Grand Wagoneer letters on the front doors out of wood (or even fake wood) as a unique and tasteful tribute to the woodgrain-sided original.
Absolutely beautiful and the L version actually looks more suited for this rectangular design. Compared to the esv or yukon XL, that is noticeably streched from the rear C pillar. The wagoneer L though is symmetric front and back, whereas the shortbase rear is cut short. I love this thing! I can see Jeep going 4xE for this b4 GM. And I agree exterior styling does fall btw Escalade and Navigator. The interior 2nd n 3rd row is unmatched, although Cadillac driver's area still reigns supreme to me. Its beautiful just pretty busy, throwing 4 screens everywhere still doesn't match the elegant design of the OLED in the Escalade. I do give it to Jeep for offering 0-60 in 4.7secs without taxing on an additional 40k unlike the Escalade V. Also, something to take into consideration 🔥
This truck is amazing, the price tag isn't but I'm very impressed. It would be nice to see I-6 make a come back in sedans and SUVs and trucks. Not a bad Come back from a name plate that's been missing for over 30 years
I will give credit where it’s due, the interior is beautiful in my opinion, 4.7 seconds is insane for something that big. Just wish Jeep didn’t sell out on the styling, one of the worse looking in it’s segment.
Nice interior. GREAT engine. Still hate the generic looking exterior though (mainly the front which just looks like a big Grand Cherokee to me), especially this longer "L" version which now just looks generic AND dumpy - Still think the "Grand Wagoneer" letters on the front doors should have been made out of wood as a unique tribute to the original wood-sided models too.
Some people suggested a woody, but I disagree. I'm also not a big fan of having car names scripted across the front or hood like Ford or Range Rover. I've always though it too industrial. I do, however, find it more appealing now that they at least moved it to the grill rather than the hood.
I think these long wheelbase SUVs tend to look better with the rear side window stretched into the D-pillar. Having a D-pillar on an already huge vehicle just makes it so ungainly.
@@joecool9739 My theory is that if you're going to cut most ICEs you may as well make the best you can since there will be so few in a few years. BMW, Jeep, MB, Mazda all have or will have them. It would be nice to see Toyota make one again.
I saw one review online in which the middle row has three seats. That is so awesome. There is so much room. I think that console in the second row is ridiculous.
With me being a big V8 guy, I’d be furious if I was going to get one of these and found out that they got rid of the 6.4 V8 for literally only 1 MPG better. If they are going to downgrade to a 6 cylinder, 1 MPG of improvement would just be unacceptable for me personally. If I’m spending $110k on an SUV, fuel economy wouldn’t even be a factor on my decision. I wouldn’t spend the money for something that only has that inline 6 when it had a V8. I’d either just get the regular wagoneer or the previous model year that offered the 6.4 V8
Completely agree with you. This is an absurd trade. It seems like they must have EPA regulations that are governed by displacement or something not just by MPG. One MPG savings? Which will probably be completely erased by the time you have to put your foot in it to actually get some power out of the engine. And on top of that probably have to run premium. Completely ridiculous
Jeep is underating this engine. It's really making 604 horsepower according to the 1/4 mile calculator. In a challenger weighing around 4000 lbs. You should be able to run high 10's if dodge decides to continue the L body vehicles.
I agree. Given the power to weight, they're certainly underrating those thoroughbred ponies. This thing is just .03 seconds slower than an Escalade V. Can you imagine what is going to happen when/if SRT gets a hold of it?
Throw two turbos on a 6.4 and see what you get. Me personally I'm not to sold on turbos. Five or ten years from now the 6.4 still be running and a six cylinders with two turbos will need all kinds of work to keep running
I love love love this vehicle. I currently own a YUKON XL ---which is totally nice don't get me wrong---but I just like how different this looks. If you're not a rapper or drug dealer you can't pull off driving an Escalade. The expedition looks are so-so to me---The Lincoln is gorgeous --- and I've never cared for any chevy products. which leaves Land Rover Defender 130, the Yukon, and the Grand Wagoner as my top 3 choices
It’s a nice truck no doubt, but doesn’t have the design or presence to even begin to try to compete head to head with the Cadillac Escalade. This _looks_ like a Jeep. Not a bad thing, but when you’re paying this kind of money I’m not sure you want to be reminded. Edit: I love the wheel design and I absolutely love this color and two tone combination. 🔥
Yeah I hate the Grand Cherokee-looking front end. It looks nice at $50-60k but not premium or distinctive enough for over six figures, Jeep designers obviously tried to play it safe but too safe in my opinion.
Interior is definitely a step up from what they used to do and the engine is nice. The exterior is just dumpy/ clumsy looking. If paying this price tag the looks need to be more on par.
5:46 - 5:57: From that angle it kinda looks a hearse used to transport the dead. Otherwise, everything seems good, especially the interior and the power.
This is a best on suv have a all led lights on Interior or exterior on this truck. Have a led headlights see lot best Any bad weather of night this is 20th century with those lights in this truck. Go for led light ❤😊
For that price just by an Escalade, this just looks like a big Grand Cherokee. Also if you want to go dodge style and go for massive HP only Caddy has you there with the Escalade V ... The 6 cyl is cute tho
Is there a way to turn off the rear seat displays from the drivers seat ? Not an issue for me but the better half doesnt like the reflection they cause at night and she has to stop and go to the back seat to turn them off, and then if you shut the motor off, they will come back on when you restart. seems a little odd.....
There's no Jeep badges because Stelantis wants Wagoneer to be a separate brand from Jeep (Range Rover competitor vs Tahoe/Yukon for the Grand Cherokee)
The biggest issue with all these full-size extended American SUV is the exclusion of rear-wheel steering. They need it more than any. But once they adapt that, the size won't seem so imposing. Of course, it will add more complexity and expense. But that's the future of all things, and cars are no exception. More power than the V8 and better MPG (if not by much).
I will continue to say it, but American car buyers are finally getting the luxury in their SUVs that they never got in their American luxury cars. Look at this interior and new state of the are engine to boot. It's a shame their isn't a single American sedan that can match this level of interior design and quality. It's time for this I6 to make it way to the JGC.
Soyfan, what is the deal with the apps for these vehicles? Why can’t these companies set up apps for you to use for your week of use so you and others can give feedback on how they function, glitches, ease of use etc. Its baffling to me that they don’t set this up for press vehicles.
If it's like their other 6 cylinders, it's gonna be trash after 60-75k miles!! A neighbor 3 door next to me has the 2022 Wagoneer and i,ve seen it being flatbeded 2 times in the past year, 1 time for transmission re-flash!!
I think it is time to stop saying "$100K for a Jeep??". Quick history lesson for those not in the know: Jeep has been selling $100K vehicles very well since 2017, via the Jeep GC Trackhawk. Used, those Jeep models are still selling for $75K+. This isn't their first go round.
@@WeatherHappens false. The Wagoneer created this class 60 years ago. As for the Trackhawk, they started $91K but most were sold loaded at $104K. That was used to highlight the ignorance of the "iT Is $100K for A JeEp" argument.
@@hellkitty1014 Dude you ride FCA hard on every post I find you on They didnt "create" anything They just want to compete in the same league as import luxury 4x4s... but could never do so because up until the 2010s they didnt have the technology, luxury or desireability of Land Rover, G-Class or Land Cruiser/Lexus LX They slowly built up the image of Jeep by making vehicles like the GC Summit Reserve and GC Trackhawk Meanwhile Land Rover had been building up its image since the 1980s as large, luxurious and expensive imports for wealthy suburbanites If you look up "Joey Merlino 1999" on RU-vid you will see that this mafia boss drove a 4x4...it wasnt a Ford Explorer or a Jeep Grand Cherokee...it was a Range Rover And even back then the news anchor calls it a "flashy" vehicle....to illustrate that this brand perception of Land Rover was already well engrained even 25-30 years ago
@@joecool9739 Land Rover...and well engineered in the same sentence??😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Land Rovers weren't even in the conversation when the Wagoneer established the full-size luxury SUV class.
I think they failed at the naming structure too. Frankly I don't think this should have ever had a Tahoe/Suburban competitor at all, at least not with the same name with only "Grand" in front of it and virtually the same exterior design - Makes it hard to justify paying over six figures when there's a Tahoe-priced "Wagoneer" that looks nearly identical parked next to it for half the price.
Also, Chrysler Aspen? Why did Chrysler get the axe in terms of being the “luxury” brand. So many opportunities to recreate Chrysler, but Jeeps win again.
Love the engine, but zero use for a Grand Wagoneer as simply way too big and expensive. Another Jeep product that makes me wish for something other than what they made.
I would love to have this for a cross-country trip and as my basecamp in the Rockies. That said, that's way too much $$$$$$ and the outdated ICE drivetrain is a ridiculous gas-hog. Should be a hybrid getting at least 30mpg.
The body colored B,C, & D pillars remind me of a plastic folk from the side-view. Nice interior tho. Needs woodgrain siding perhaps 🤔 I'll take an Escalade, please
