I want to know exactly who is responsible for forcing flammable refrigerant upon homeowners so I know who to sue when my house burns down.
@theclimbingroseaffirmations
@theclimbingroseaffirmations 6 месяцев назад
I work in HVAC and was told the R-454B leaks into your house when there is a leak. I'm not sure what that means, but I know it's not good. From researching myself it seems like R-32 is better because it has been well tested.

It’s not that much more flammable than what we already use. If you are not certified to handle refrigerant then hire a professional.

@averyalexander2303
@averyalexander2303 16 дней назад
If that's the case, how have cars successfully used microchannel condensers for the last 3 decades? Cars see head pressures of over 300 PSI all the time by design and their condensers rarely leak unless hit by debris. Seems to me like the issue has more to do with poor quality coils than the microchannel technology itself.

ok my question is from a homeowner or rental property owners perspective... should I wait until new systems come out to replace dying units (I still have a few R22 systems)? How likely is it new systems with new refrigerants have serious problems to work out?
@luismigueldelatorregalvez9448
a r410a unit will work just fine and i dont think you need to wait for a new unit. You should just wait till it goes out and have money saved for a new unit

@squirts1
@squirts1 11 месяцев назад
@@luismigueldelatorregalvez9448 I'm talking about units that have already gone out. The question is to replace the unit now or suffer through and wait for the new refrigerant systems. It's got nothing to do with saving up money. The dilemma is... the same as for an R22 system currently. It costs $1000 to fill a leaking R22 system because R22 is no longer produced and is difficult to find. Generally you can only find it in reclaimed/used canisters. Sometimes the sellers are lying and selling you something else labeled as R22. The same thing will happen to R410a sysetems in 10 years when they start having problems.

@averyalexander2303

Ammonia is way too toxic for residential AC. In what jurisdiction do building codes even allow for using group B (highly toxic) refrigerants in homes?
@darinmeritt3790
@darinmeritt3790 16 дней назад
@averyalexander2303 No building codes outside of most incorporated areas. Ammonia is toxic and dangerous but the anhydrous form sure makes the corn grow!
@averyalexander2303
@averyalexander2303 16 дней назад
@@darinmeritt3790 Yeah, it's definitely a great refrigerant, just totally unsuitable for use in any equipment untrained people may be around or messing with. One possible solution may be for the refrigerant system to be self contained and completely outside and chill water instead of the air directly, but the efficiency loss from chilling water to chill air would probably more than offset the gains from using ammonia in the first place. Still not a good idea for many reasons IMO, but it's at least much less of a terrible idea than running the ammonia through the house.

Should contractors still be selling R410A systems with the imminent transition?
@RichaRat
@RichaRat Год назад
Contractors don't have a lot of choice, since there is little if any A2L refrigerant equipment currently available. As new A2L equipment becomes available, it will likely be more expensive than new equipment with high GWP refrigerants, at least until the old inventory is sold and new inventory takes it's place. I'm basing my answer on experience from the last 2 painful transitions.

Why does everyone else call it climate change and not global warming anymore?
@PeteGaughenbaugh1

Because the change in climate does not always result in warming; it can also result in increased trends in storm activity, cooling, shifting in glacial patterns, etc. The scientific understanding of climate change has advanced beyond just the "hole in the Ozone layer" making it hotter.

Well, don't know which government he represents? nor which consumers he is advising? a) R32 or R454B are A2L class flammable, (can be explosive), more toxic than A1 class, refrigerants while all existing refrigerants CFC, HCFC, HFC are A1 class NON-FLAMMABLE non-toxic, non-explosive, odourless b) There is no phase-out of HFC (ps R32 is an HFC!!!), but there is a phase-out (not ban of stop supply) of Hi GWP (any refrigerant) ABOVE 750 and not until 2027 and in some countries 2045 AND there are already low GWP A1 class, c) The gentleman ignores that fact that A2L is flammable and can be explosive (diesel effect) and the 1st in domestic and commercial application since 1928!, d) He is ignoring Health & Safety regulations and MUST requirements & limitation of USE of A2L class refrigerants1!! Surely the press should check credentials? or is it journalism that should not be used as this subject can lead to life loss and consumers must not be confused by the ignorance of some dishonest manufacturers like Dikin!!
