More like The Dead Star of The Southwest. Sihanoukville was the best place in Cambodia in my opinion. It's all gone. All the amazing people and places, all gone. So sad. All the friends I've made there over the years have all left. I knew it was bad before I arrived but thought probably something was left, but nope. I just went back to Thailand and will never come back again, sadly. Hope all the locals who lived there are doing alright wherever they are now.

I think you are being brainwash by western media. They never want Cambodia to develop. But Cambodia is developing so they use fake news. It is true Chinese left, but Japanese and Korean come to Shihanouk seeking to rebuild the economy and take advantage. So now, the Chinese is losing this economy competition and since COVID is lifting, they are coming back to rebuild what they paused in order to catch up to Japanese investor in Cambodia.

The infrastructure transformation completed in such a short time in this city is truly awe-inspiring. With the deep sea port, Sihanoukville expressway (connecting to Phnom Penh in 1-1/2 hr), special economic zones, Sihanoukville has a lot of potentials. When this city find its identity, it is going to be an amazing city. Go Cambodia!!!
Not a tourist Mecca. A "Mecca" is a place that people want to go. Sihanoukville is increasingly a place that people want to avoid -- Chinese suburb where the people who should benefit from this development - the Cambodian residents - are now second-class citizens.
It’s a dead town with empty rotten buildings because the population is too low to populate the buildings not to mention they can not afford it. If you build it you need to lower the cost so people can afford it. Plus there’s not much retail, shopping or hospital to attract people as the beaches and islands are barely developed to international standards. It’s a hot mess. Modernizing it ok that fine but it’s not done correctly

The Chinese investments killed the beauty of Sihanoukville and its magic forever. No tourists go there anymore, it became an ugly casino city. The only thing that left is to grief on that lovely french town that it used to be. Rest in peace.

Thousands of unfinished, crumbling high rises, tens of thousands empty apartments, the most idiotic traffic system in Asia, broken sidewalks everywhere, sewage pipes and stream dump most of the city sewage straight into the ocean and an annihilated tourism industry is all that's left here.
The Chinese Mongol who invested in development have ran away leaving vacant incomplete buildings. These buildings are now falling apart. Also, these massive development have also took away the beaches as well. Running tourism.
