Contreras put the team ahead of his own safety. The guy was thrown under the bus last year and here he is doing everything possible to help the pitchers.....
This was not something he did on his own. It was very clear he learned to do it from this org. You can see the difference of how far back he was when he was with the cubs then this season hes now put so far up next to the batter.
I picked them to win 78 games and finish fourth in the division. It looks like I was overly optimistic, and I wasn't expecting much. Dewitt and Mo have ruined this organization.
Also, I told my wife when the bases were loaded with no outs last night “if they don’t get a run in here, the hitting coach will be fired by noon tomorrow”. Mo made me out to be a liar. How has the FO maintained radio silence through this. ACT DO SOMETHING EVEN IF ITS NOT FOR THIS SEASON, FOR THE NEXT
I agree with Caleb and his comments on Nolan- it’s been underwhelming or mediocre since he was traded here at best (consistently- there’s been good bursts) I also agree with the retool and bringing up some of the players from the farm, but didn’t you (Caleb) also say there was an issue with the Cardinals rushing young players a couple pods ago? So how would you balance that? Not saying you’re wrong just asking for clarity and further explanations. Great pod as always!
They simply need to reinvest in the MLB and farm system staff and technology. And get a new GM. Probably outside the system. This organization isn’t developing and maturing arms and hitters, so they empty their coffers on average free agents.
Liked thoughts until the (fill in the blank) Carpenter comments. Carp isn't a .275 hitter, and he is not going to help the team. Playing him is just a continuation of playing old people who can't play. There are better options than him at 1st or DH even after a Goldy trade. Keep Carp for his voice in the clubhouse and because you won't get anything from him. But he sure isn't going to produce much when playing.
I enjoy your takes. Hoping you have more enjoyable days ahead. Sure has been a slog so far. “Oh goodness, I don’t even care.” Indeed. “The style of baseball gives me no hope.” Well said. They look like they’re having zero fun, and that is on management and senior leadership. Winn started on fire and the general malaise has worn him down as well. Shame. “When Nootbaar hit a HR in the 9th, not loud.” Fans are shell shocked. His hubris is his downfall. (To steal your word). Perhaps it’s also simple incompetence.
Last year the Cardinals had (statistically) the worst SP in MLB history in Waino Mo replaced him w/ two 36-yr olds.. adding the league leader in 2023 HR/R allowed (Lynn) to the worst SP for hits allowed (Mikolas) *THREE* of the top 5 SP in runs allowed last season are Cardinals (Lynn/Mikolas/Gibson)
