Idk, maybe because its my first bike ever but...im in love with my 2024 Ninja 500 ABS. I got it brand new for $7k out the door and ride it every single chance I get. I adore this bike. I never feel myself wanting for more speed, better braking, better handling, etc. It just does everything I want it to do. I love it.
I got a ninja 500 as my 3rd bike and I can tell you it is by far my favorite. Don't let these "critics" tell you it's not an awesome bike. It all comes down to your ride style and the kind of riding you'll be doing but this bike is a phenomenal jack of all trades
All I know is that yammi had some hate for the 400 and the zx4r and they both turned out to be great bikes... sooo yammi words in one ear and out the other
he's a critic and content creator it's wierd to express that you have any desire to relate to his work beyond just that? like are you actually going around taking other adult mens word for gospel on anything? it's an open conversation and for the record yammie's positivity about the ninja 400 is the reason I'm about to buy the platform which - he is right - makes way more sense as a product than the ninja 500....I already have a hayabusa why would anyone ever need a 500? what is that even for lol and it doesnt look any different than any other current kawasaki
@@williamrobinson4265well there’s a thing called experience, like if I say to someone “Dodge Hemis are big shit” you could take my word for it because I’ve torn down multiple engines, like isn’t that the whole point of the video? I like that they don’t only make green motorcycles thts just me.. I hope more companies start coming out with new color schemes it adds a sort of mystery to the biking scene.. like you won’t know what someone’s riding unless you ask or know your stuff
I personally want to see at least 3 unique color schemes for the models. Like sure keep a green one, but give us different things too. Purple would be interesting. The green is so... underwhelming.
well like the question is begged why would the engineers even bother making such a useless category besides plain old capitalist overproduction and senseless competition between these companies not even producing useful products for consumers just competing with eachothers product lines
@@CloverDaBunni Because government regulations never change? Permanent? Last forever? No not really. I recall a president who occupied a government office merely 4 years ago getting rid of a lot of regulations.
Seems like saying "beginner bikes" are boring or not hi revving or not agressive enough is a strange sentiment. Weight (which you said) body position, ease of use, cost, maintenance ect. are the important aspects for people starting out.
I really despise the term. It's too limiting. They are small displacement bikes. They are price-conscious bikes, in a international economy that makes a dozen eggs cost nearly $5 currently. It's not like money goes anywhere. But people who've reached middle age perhaps and have gotten all the horsepower junky out of their systems, would like a second smaller bike, or just experience something light, peppy, something they can crank the throttle and use all the power. It's an option. Sure the suspension and brakes aren't going to be like the bigger bikes, due to price point. You can learn a lot about motorcycles by riding the wheels off a smaller bike, even as an expert.
Kawasakis can definitely be red if they pull it off right. Look at the classic Ninja 250 in red with the purple accents. Or the older Ninja 500 with the diagonal stripes.
I want to put one in the stable just forthe potential fun factor. I already have a dual sport with street wheels but this would give me some wind protection & look a little nicer ;)
I’m getting my first bike at 6’2 170 lbs, I was worried the 400 might be too tiny but everyone my size says it’s fine. So a litttttle bigger sounds like a win to me too. Same price too? Yeah I’m probably going with the 500
im 6'4" 195lbs. I think the seat height on the 400 and 500 are exactly the same. people are saying in the comments the rev limits for both bikes is still the same. I think yammie had mentioned some other 500 felt porky, wide, heavy. I'm just wondering if you can throw around the 500 the same way you could with the 400. I suppose if it's a little heavier it might not feel as nimble but that would be my only complaint/concern.
It’s a good beginner bike. I had mine for a year then traded for a ZX10R. Not every starter bike needs to be a fun light bike. The cbr with its weight prepped me for heavier bikes
The CBR 500 ABS is the best beginner bike out there. From an experienced rider's perspective, it's still an excellent ride. Exciting? No. Razor sharp, comfortable, utilitarian and good looking? You bet.
Same horsepower, a bit more torque, but 5kg heavier, I would rather have the ninja 400, its lighter, which is the main advantage of small capacity bikes, but I'm not surprised that its heavier, most modern bikes are porkier than their older siblings, its like bikes are going backwards.
The 400 has 44 horsepower, the 500 is 60, the 650 (i think) is 73. Each bike has a different rating, I think we'll see kawasaki offer super nuanced entries, and the average rider will just pick whatever the biggest bike is that people recommend for beginners.
I don't get you "shaming" at Kawasaki for this bike when they litteraly also released the ZX-4RR, 400cc 4 in line cylinders 77HP no A2. They're the only ones offering a 4 cylinders at this size to this day, and this "500" is there for people who want a bike with sport shape that isn't a sportsbike. That's it ; if you want sensations go ZX-4RR.
Seems like SO many people put on an exhaust and tune on their bikes. Wouldn’t the 500 be more receptive to power gains than the 400? For track use only of course…
@EggEnjoyer cope man. Those old heads have been riding 20 plus years. The real danger is reddit brains. Thinking a 450 or 650 is a beginner bike. End up in a ditch with broken ribs.

The Ninja 400's that have been bored out to 450cc are capable of HP in the mid 50's to mid 60's to the wheel depending on spec. Plus, Kawasaki is known for electronically neutering its bikes to meet emissions and noise requirements let alone the A2 standard common in other markets. It is too early to tell what the performance potential of the bike is but I would not write it off as being the same or worse than the previous model.
Seen this in person yesterday. It's a bump in capacity to make it through new euro regs with same performance. It's still budget and looks it. Was a good opportunity to match the 450sr. The Chinese are coming and the big four just aren't paying attention.
I've heard a lot of people say that, about emission regs. It is not same performance. It has to maintain max power so it remains A2 license compatible. All the extra cc go to torque. With the weight almost the same that makes for much better performance where it matters to those who don't ride in the engine red zone often.
For years I rode a 1992 EX-500. It was a competent bike, but it was old and worn out when I had it and there were weird little quirks it had. I once got pulled over going 94 in a 65 on it, and got off with a verbal warning. It was, however, red!
I don’t think the Ninja 650 will continue. It hasn’t been competitive for a long time and if they really did sell the engine design then we’ll likely see a 700ish 270 degree crank to match the field. I also remember a couple years ago you hated the Ninja 400 on paper for the extract same reasons as the 500 now
@@rotm4447 How long ago he put out a video about the GSX-8S saying IS LAME and BORING.. fast forward to all the reviews, people tuning it and getting big power, people running on race tracks already, lots of people believing it's the best bike in that class..... And the ironically lauded RS660 is praised and loved, and their engines exploding left and right (just ask MotoAmerica racing teams).
Its the equivalent of a street 400. Longer stroke means better off the track….that exactly what a 650 is. Thats exactly what 450 is. It’s apples and oranges.
9lbs, 2hp, virtually identical power to weight ratio, same MSRP? Now let's drill down on the real benefit the Ninja 500 as a beginner bike, the stroked motor with same HP at lower RPM is the advantage not a disadvantage! Highr revving bikes are less beginner friendly, period. Easier to ride off a stoplight and easier to ride on the freeway. You are looking at this from what you want, not from what beginner needs. And it is IS a beginner bike. I mean if someone like you wants this class of bike, then you need a ZX-4RR with full exhaust and ECU tune. It is absolutely ther perfect bike for a 35-year-old female buying their first bike. You are missing the mark here my man.
I'm curious about something you said, you mention these bikes getting bloated and heavier but the weight differences between the 400 and 500 are pretty negligible. So the added torque with minimal weight gain should really only be positive, no?
Im disappointed it still doesn't use upside down forks like the r3 I also wish they would update the z900 to ride by wire along with the zx6r it feels like Kawasaki is doing the bare minimum when it comes to updating their bikes
They sort of make their money on ships, trains, mining equipment, gas turbine engines. Motorcycles, especially in the USA, isn't their primary means for existence.
@@exothermal.sprocket yep im aware of that. Its one of the reason they were able to make the h2r they leveraged the extra resources they had from Kawasaki heavy industries but either way it isn't an excuse for not updating bikes the same could be said about Yamaha as their main focus also isn't bikes yet they update their bikes and manage to keep similar pricing like with the new mt09 generation they gave it ride by wire tft and auto blipper for barley any price increase yet kawasaki wont update the z900 their flagship naked not counting the zh2
I have a red Kawasaki Z 400. But that’s OK. I just peeled off all the stickers now it’s mostly black with a little bit of red trim. I am sinful, cursed, and bazaar.😂 but I try to do the right things
I think the worse thing about it is they called it a 500. If it was called a 451 it would be allot cooler. Just name the bike the actual cc. Just like the Z900RS should be called a Z948rs.

Super sports are fun, but they will get you in trouble easily. I had the Ninja 400, and reading and watching videos like this always made me question it. I wish it was faster, I wish it could outrun more cars, etc. Then, over time, I realized I had more fun on my Ninja 400 than I ever did on my first bike, 2005 GSXR 600. I wish it was closer to actual 500 Ci, but I bet most owners of the Ninja 500 will love it!
Green was used for racing. It was said, due to superstition that using green colors was bad luck, Kawasaki used lime green on their bikes in competition to intimidate the competition. It stuck since then.
A 300, a 400, a 600 and now a 500? Give me the good ol' days when we had a small bike (300ish), a 600 and either a 900 or1000! That's all you need! Small, Medium and Large!
why cant they just make the shitty A2 version for europeans and then give Americans the real version, why does the rest of the world have to suffer because of another areas stupid restrictions
Your channel is ok but don't forget a wide demographic range of riders watch motorcycle videos. Your comment Kawasaki should never have red paint shows you are about 18 years old. I was born in the 60's and Kawasaki turned the sport bike world on its head when it released the 84 GPZ 900. Glorious in red and I bought an 87 model. For 2024 Kawasaki are releasing limited editions in red and black to celebrate that era....you probably think blue is Yamaha's color.....I bought a brand new FZR1000 in 1990 that was red and white......the same colour as the RD and RZ range of 250, 350 and 500 2 strokes that were legends in the Yamaha 80s model range. Just like Wayne Rainey's GP 500 race bike. Suzuki is yellow??? Certainly their off road range is but Suzuki 80s and 90s is blue and white.....there limited editions were always black and gold....I bought a low mileage 1988 GSXR 1100J in black and gold in 1988....my 25 year old daughter is the same as you and I was the same at your age. You think you know everything but it isn't until you get to my age (50+) that you realise all those stupid old people actually knew what they were talking about.....
My 2014 Cbr500r has been great to me. Bought it 2015 w/ 1500 miles on it. It has close to 70,000 miles now and still runs great. The only issue I've had is the forks leaking oil. To me it's like the Honda Accord of motorcycles. It's reliable, looks decent and gets good gas mileage. But it's also kinda boring. If your main thing is practicality and just want a reliable bike to get to work and back comfortably and aren't interested in winning any races or doing wheelies and don't weigh more than 225-ish lbs then the cbr500r would be a great bike for you.
Kawasaki is cannibalizing there own lines fucking stupid if I was a new rider I would just go with ZX4 as a starter bike and mod it to go from 130 to 150 miles per hour. There is no point in buying a ninja 500(451) or a 650 there is no point. The new stater bike is the ZX4 now.
From a european prospective, since i am restricted by the a2 but i want to have something i can go 180+ (kmh) on autobahn AND want the bigger bike look something like this ninja 500 isnt too bad. Becouse truth be told as much fun as bikes are to ride everyone wants something that in theyr own eyes looks cool and for lots of people a beefy sportbike looks amazing, so this is kinda the sweetspot
I actually like the weight gain.the 400 is SO light the wind is rough on it. I say that as highway riding would suck on it. This makes it a TAD better in that regard. I ALSO like the additional torque down low so i wouldn't have to rev AS hard at every light in order to keep in front of traffic. Im HOPING they detuned it for the European market though because if it adds a few more horses I'm getting one.
Why would they detune? The bike is already made for A2 compliance. The power output is the limit of that compliance category wich is 35KW (roughly 48HP), perfect power output in my opinion. Will remain the leader in this segment I believe. Also it won't get much more weight where you will notice a difference, it's only more 5Kg wich if you think that they add about 50cm3 of displacement it's not that bad. I owned a 2018 Ninja 400 for the past year for my first bike and I am getting this one new for 2024, it's the perfect bike for my needs and skill level. Such a balanced and sweet machine

I had a 06 636 SE. The red wheels with the champagne color looked good to me. Wasn't a fan of the tribal scheme, but it fit the period. Was different from a black bike and wasn't a 'look at me!' color 👌
For sure, only saw one. I liked the metallic blue back then, but the SE fell into my lap. They definitely ripped, vmax mine once and never did it again 😄
The 500 is 9 lbs. heavier than the 400 per Kawasaki. TST dynojet run between stock 400 and 500 from 3 months ago (on reddit) showed 500 had 4 more hp and 6 more ft.lbs. The 500's horses are going to carry less. 372 lbs for the 500 is still very light.
Why are they even selling these in the states. We don't need A2 bikes. Every dealer I have near me has cbr500 just sitting with big discounts and nobody wants them.
Maybe Im a niche moto shopper but the 500 is tempting to me. I value the fun of the lighter weight and being able to use most all the power. Couple that with cheaper insurance, fuel and maintenance costs. Should be a lot of fun for us riders on a budget
The Kawasaki ninja 500 curb weight is literally 15lbs heavier than the 400. With a new exhaust system you are going to even out the weight with the ninja 400 and still have more power
master noob, where ninja 400 vs 500* review? huge diff between the two! the 450 has maybe double the torque & acc in low rev , 300/400 below 6k rpm is almost sleeping 155cc acceleration . worth a video yammi?
It's like this guy just talks shit about any bike that isn't his smh. Dude doesn't do reviews....he does personal comparisons based on his personal feelings alone and what bike he personally likes. That's not a review dude. You're a paid marketer!!!!
Where I live, insurance companies offer substantial financial breaks for bikes 400cc or less. It's unfortunate that Yamaha doesn't take this into consideration.
Also here we get 2 YEARS UNLIMITED MILEAGE KAWASAKI WARRANTY, You guys are getting 12months. You get more power and we get worry free peace of mind riding lol
I bought a used 2023 Z400 with low mileage for many of the reasons you mentioned. It fits a sweet spot for me between a 250cc and 650-800cc bike. The high-revving engine sings right up to its 12k redline and is a of fun to ride. I thought the bump up to the Z500 would begin to compromise the small bike experience that I wanted. It’s always more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow. Personally, I also prefer the sharper styling of the Z400 which doesn’t reach the over-the-top styling of bikes such as larger Z-series options, all KTM’s, current Yamaha MT-series, etc.
Dude is a cocky one. I made it to 5:21. I bet he has a problem with EVERYTHING! I was done when he said you can’t change the colors. Letters me know where his mind is. Old dog, old tricks. It’s why I like smaller channels and less experienced people’s reviewers.
The Ninja 500 isn't that much worse or even different. The redline dropped from 12,3 to 11,7 and weighs 8 more pounds. It's definitely still the benchmark. What's exciting is that KTM did exactly as you said and made a single cylinder that's way up in power. It's the same price as a Ninja 500 at $5,900 bucks. You get a thumper that's down on power compared to having a twin. But, a thumper is cheaper to manufacture than a twin so you get a shit ton of features. two way adjustable suspension front and rear, quickshifter, imu, and throttle by wire. Plus, the Husky variants are much prettier. So, at least the Ninja 400 isn't always the go to option.
I don't agree on CB 500 series being boring, boring are the people driving it boringly, but I defiantly agree on the Red Kawa thing not being attractive.
“Everyone is basics making the same thing.” It took you this long to realize? Nobody really does something big and grand like they did with the first ever Toyota Corolla. They will have their standard, bulletproof vehicle that does everything perfectly (economy cars) and then they will have a pricy, crappier option that more people buy (SUVs).
Why would you decide for other people if a bike is boring or not?? How fast do you drive in every days traffic? In other tests the Eliminator is very well appreciated! The normal road is not a racetrack! I ride a Honda 500 Scrambler, never had a nicer bike before! I usually drive not faster than 70 kmh. Sometimes I drive like Rossi on a special track where there is almost no traffic. But easy driving can be very satisfying! I rode a hornet 600 four cilinder with a speed of 214 kmh, and suddenly the bike steps out and moved to a channel, I managed to control the bike but for me no fast bike anymore!
Yes, Yammie has too much ego. He never really considers what OTHER people might want or NOT want. He only talks from his own point of view. Very annoying.
If they really wanted to make a 500 model they should have given it something like 60hp and sell an A2 compliant model for the same price of the old Ninja 400 with the option to unlock it later on, but i totally agree with you, in it's state, it's an incredibly stupid bike
I might be the only one but Kawasaki's would have looked a lot better if they got red instead of the green, my mate has a z400 in red and i personally love the colour, the green version actually looks disgusting in my opinion. would be interested to hear if someone agrees
I can see how the ninja 400, 500, and 650 are hitting pretty niche markets relative to each other, but clumping the zx6 in with those is crazy. Zx6 is in a different ballpark compared to the other 3.
If the N650 loses the parallel twin, it would be outstanding and not just a decent bike that makes a good sport tourer. 8-10 more horses would do wonders for it.
Yep. Their 650 twin has been around since 2006, with only camshaft changes. Makes the least amount of power in the entire 650 class, also runs 180° crank which is less appealing than the booming 270°, also vibrates at a higher frequency. I think they should go 690cc to 700cc with a remake or entirely new machine. But doing so would require a redesign of the Versys 650, Vulcan 650, Z650, and Ninja 650. Also this 650 twin is shared with another foreign brand, I forget who's using it. Chinese model I think.
As a smaller rider 5’7 150 I want the 500cc bikes as a chance to beat all my 400cc and 300cc friends as they are all like 6’0 170+ and I feel the power to weight would even it out to make me be able to get the edge in a race unless my math isn’t mathing
Kawasaki 300 to 500 models are all approx 168 kg in my market and that's good because you still get a light bike but with more power/torque., subject to any restrictions of course.
LOL I had a ‘95 Ninja500 possibly the last year they still listed them as EX500. It was not an only ugly red, but had a cheesy purple 90’s swish. 😖I got it for a steal as a left back in late Summer of ‘97. Fortunately the electric boogie swish came off super easy. 😅
Why would it not be disappointing? You’ve got a 400 4-cylinder and 400 twin offering. The ZX-6 and Ninja 650 still exists. My god, how many times are they going to re-invent the wheel?
Everything positive about the Z400 still applies to the 500 because they’re really the same bike. 50 or so cc’s isn’t much. Many of us wish ‘80s and ‘90s Civics could still be built, but they can’t. It’s the same here. Kawasaki had to do what Honda did years ago: provide a global platform that stays under 50HP because guess what? The North American bike market is not big enough to sustain a different model! Shame about the name. Yeah it should be Ninja 450/Z450.
New to bikes, looking at lots of videos and found this guy has a lot of opinions that doesn’t reflect reality. I think he’s running out stuff to talk about, his business model is all about lots of posts and lots of promotions. Shame, I thought he could be helpful.
In my opinion, the new Ninja 500 is a ... Ninja 450. That's it! Low end torque is not a bad thing by any means. Just the bike is named wrong.. A shocking 10% below its name, like a CBR 1000RR launched with a 900cc engine.
They make those changes (increase displacement and better electronics for example) in oder to extend the producycle until it comes to its end. Then they will dump the ninja and make a whole new ninja concept. Maybe fully electronic and the Lifecaycle starts from the beginning.
First of the Ninjas was the 250,300,400 and now back to 500 that they had years ago. The older 500 was likely more practical being an all rounder more than full on sport bike, and it had a centre stand on it.
You sounded in love with the ninja 400 in that review.. wouldn’t 52 more cc better look upgrades be a good thing? You have a complete different energy with this bike over the N400
Little bike energy used to be a real thing. In the 90's a friend of mine had a Honda NSR 250. That bike was so good. 120mph on the motorway comfortably while carrying me as pillion. The good old days
Yeah.. I'm still on my Svarty 401almost 25,000 kms in 3 yrs (thanks to Yam) and want to upgrade, but I love this fun lil bike so much I'm worried about losing something if/when I do upgrade...

@@depechemoto most times I find smaller bikes are more fun as you can use all of what they can offer on a daily basis. Bigger bikes sometimes mean you never go above second gear. They made the 500 in response to CFMoto's 450ss. Just look at the TFT display and price tag. They know what people want. A Yamaha R4 would be exactly like the Kawasaki ZX4rr if they made it just like how Yammie wanted it to be. So if they ever made one, I wouldn't doubt the price would be the same, $10k
