You are the only one that actually puts it on a lift to inspect the undercarriage and I love that! thanks and keep up the excellent work! (NH person)

I do! I carry a map! Out west you can't count on cell phone data. Also more effective for figuring out which town is at the edge of your fuel range, to minimize stops. Also understanding the relative locations of many things really helps the coarse stages of travel planning in a destination-rich environment.

i have a CC with 2.0 gas engine non hybrid. I use extreme driving style (hyper milling and cruise around 80 km/h) to extract the best mileage. So far my best try was 4.167L/100km, which is about 56 MPG. My overall MPG after 8000km of driving is 46.94.( 5.0L/100km) So the M20A FKS coupled with CVT is extremely efficient.

Great content as always. Extra weight welded to the exhaust is probably a last minute addition for changing the natural frequency of the exhaust structure itself for eliminating some unwanted low frequency resonance or vibration

Great review. FYI: The engine model is M20A-FXS not FKS. K stands for the petrol only version. X is for hybrid. It's the same engine as the new Prius.

Loved the review, not the vehicle. You can really see why Toyota never called this thing “All Trac”…Cos it not. Mechanical 4X4 system, better suspension and a good set of tyre, then you may have a successor, but then you will be paying 40K+. Would still give Sarah 10 for the Penguin score, great review.

Hey Sarah, it’s Justin. I watch your videos all the time and I like them there’s a big lifted truck market on RU-vid. I like it when you do trucks I have a F150 I like it a lot my first four-wheel-drive vehicle ever looking forward to this winter in New England.

Sarah I’m going to have to bonk ya for this one. CVT stands for Continuously Variable Transmission. They’re not limited in design to just two pulleys and a metal belt. In this configuration the transmission uses an angular gear sets to connect a gas motor to an electric motor with a singular power output to the transaxle. The transmission uses a second electric motor to replace the gasoline motor when operating in pure electric mode. The two motors also allow the power train to make full use of regenerative braking without stress loading the gas engine. The second motor also functions as the starter and generator for the hybrid driver. Overall it’s a very efficient and clever system.

Remember the Celica All-Trac Turbo? Super rare car.

In 2012 Toyota stopped making the Corolla Matrix and this looks like the replacement for that.

I always say this but, that thing would be fun with a manual transmission!

I think the thing must have bad software on it. Based on what you said, it has all the hardware needed to likely make it up that hill and also make it through the gravel pit. In both cases, it didn't control the wheel spin. Since it is electric, that is a software issue. Also: I have some paper maps in my car. The electronic maps get wildly inaccurate in a national forest.

Depending on variant, it either uses the gas 2.0L M20A-FKS /w 169hp @6600rpm, flex fuel 1.8L 2ZR-FBE /w 141hp @ 6000rpm, or hybrid using electric motor plus either a 2.0L M20A-FXS /w 152hp @6000rpm, or a 1.8L 2ZR-FXE /w 98hp @5200rpm, but those values apparently change in other countries somehow, wtf?

I just bought a 2023 Toyota Corolla hatchback. It takes 0W8 oil. 🧐😱 Toyota wants $140 for an oil change. And supposedly it goes 10,000 mi. 🤦‍♂️ Why do I not believe that?

No paper map in my car, but I do have a Garmin unit for when my cell phone is out of cell range. It's a good back-up, and only cost me $75 six months ago for a 6.95" unit (slightly used).

I’m a trucker and I still carry my old road atlas. Technology is great, but you never know. Besides I think skynet just wants us completely dependent on it. Evil robot bastards! 😂

Love it when a car reviewer gets the specs correct. You actually know what you are talking about when it comes to the E-CVT, yes poor wording for something that doesn't even resemble a CVT. When the Ford Maverick Hybrid came out I don't know how many reviewers said it was a CVT like an old combine. When in fact closely resembles the Toyota E-CVT, actually Ford and Toyota worked together on the first generation of the E-CVT's. I have a 22 Hybrid Maverick and Love it, great fuel mileage, comfortable and can fit all of my family while towing a small tent trailer, and having the bed full of camping gear. I know you did a EcoBoost AWD Maverick but when are you going to do the Hybrid version? Would like to see what you think it is like.

To be honest Toyota should offer the Mark Levinson on all high trim levels. Have one in my GS it's better than most aftermarket setups. It's not too much or too little. Mark is goldilocks

In this case "Cross" is short for "Crossover", not "Crosstrek". It crosses different checkboxes. It's a grown-up brother to C-HR (Compact-Human Robot?) - quirky two-colour-painted nanoSUV, which I'm curious if you're planning to review... (I'd rather put a 3-banger into C-HR - that would be fun!!!) P.S. Oops, C-HR is discontinued in North America. Corolla Cross took its place. Too bad, 2nd gen C-HR looks really cool, especially in bi-coloured livery.
