Happy Monday guys! Hope you all have a great weekend. While the all-new 2025 Tiguan has already been revealed in Europe, that is the short wheelbase version that we won't get in the USA. We should be seeing the reveal of the US spec car by the end of this year, potentially at the LA Auto Show. Would you guys wait for the new model or purchase the current model?
@@semba_9676 Be advised the Jetta is a VW holdover. Not really on their list of important sellers. Not many people buy sedans anymore. But VW still builds it.
Waiting for the new one, hopefully the styling is WAYYYY different than the Euro one (which looks too bubbly to be a VW and reminds me of circa 2010 Hyundai or Daewoo).
They're coming for the update. North American is expected to get both hybrid engines -- regular and plug-in hybrid. The PHEV will increase the Hp to 286!
The design is dated and scheduled for an update for 2025. That means you should be able to get some great bargain on the current model (If you like it) around the holidays and early next year.
@@Iamnatewayne Mazda is moving up to a higher level that its competitors. Thing is, they only have a handful of cars. Compared to what VW offers, its tiny.
@@krane15Yes, but Mazda is a small manufacturer compared to Volkswagen, which is top 3 in the world. They don’t have nearly as much production power and budget as the top names in the game. And that’s one of the reasons I like them for what they are.
Your map was being projected to the dash why it wouldn’t pop up you have to switch it back to display on infotainment screen for next time great review !
I think the issue is that if VW did make it the full GTI spec car then no one would upgrade to a Q5 which is literally this car with more power and more luxury
@@AT-nq6cu You might think that at first, and it could be the case. But it doesn't seem to bother Hyundai and Kia. They simply take two different routes towards the same theme. In the case of Toyota vs Lexus SUVs, the difference is virtually non existent.
I actually like the conservative and handsome styling that ages better than experimental fadish designs. We just need a better matched engine to give it more grunt and efficiency.
The Tiguan has the grunt and efficiency. Keep it in D and put some laed in your foot. The Tiguan is no slouch. I know. I own a 23' Tiguan R line Black. It steps out and holds curves like a champ.
I had a 2022 exact same exterior color and same trim. We resolved the lack of urgency of the engine by the APR tune that does not void the warranty. It certainly helped. But ultimately even though I think it has one of the most comfortable rear seats for long drives, we traded it in after 11 months and 14k miles because it was burning oil. It’s a known issue and VW doesn’t seem to care. We could have easily just done 5k oil changes and it wouldn’t have been a problem but we also wanted a quieter cabin on the freeway. There is a fair amount of road noise that comes through compared to the Atlas we had before it. So, we upgraded to a 2023 BMW X3 M40i. Much more power and less road noise. Better tech too. Love it! By the way, on a side note, while it doesn’t have the greatest ground clearance, the Tiguan’s off-road mode was quite impressive automatically using DAC/HAC without engaging. Very nice!
Other than the R variants, all VW are grossly under-powered. But to their defense, they're as too as their competition. With the exception of Mazda that's beginning to distinguish itself from the rank and file. Something VW kinda used to do, but no by as big of a a gap.
We don’t because we get the long wheelbase only in the states. The R they get overseas is the short wheelbase. Our version is their Tiguan Allspace which doesn’t have an R option
I know have 8k on my 2023 Tig SEL R now and have really enjoyed it thus far. It doesnt feel that slow, however, I'm getting a lot of stone chips on the hood. Get the paint protected!
Just bought this today. Have had 3 GTI’s. I had it delivered to my house so I haven’t driven it yet. I imagine I will be ultra disappointed and will do a tune ASAP. Traded my 22 Sorento Ex with 281 Hp. Have had a 22 Kona N and Veloster N and both were beyond peppy. Salesman told me that the tune voids the warranty…. Hope not
All of those limitation that were mentioned have been addressed in the redesign European car. But its unknown how much of the updates will carry over to the 2025 model. Hopefully all of them. I really liked this current design from the beginning, but was disappointed it didn't come in R trim to North America. It seemed strange since we only get the top Golf GTI, and Golf R, yet the Tiguan is the company's best seller in the States. Maybe it was because there was no long wheel-base R? If they overcome that limitation with the redesigned car, I'll buy it.
How’s the reliability? I always hear about Volkswagen’s breaking down. I’m seriously considering buying one but I’d hate for it to die within 50k miles.
Apparently we are getting a larger Tiguan based on the Tayron, which is boxier. The new Tiguan in Europe is very attractive, it’s rounder than the old model. It seems Europe always gets the better looking ones and we’re shut out. Mazda CX60 comes to mind too.
@@RubzNotNiceidk that’s just how it came, I found out weird things about some 2024 models that are the same trim as mine locally, I saw one that didn’t have the touch sensitive buttons on the steering wheel and although it looked worse it was far better and easier to use but idk how that car had that tbh
@@samwh4775 wow that's some luck to get rear-window shades on the Tiguan (only Atlas has them) And as for that steering wheel, yeah that's a unfortunate - but also fortunate swap
I was just looking at getting one because it's 0% interest plus I got a good price. But the top trip SEL only comes with the R line I was told and it has really bolstered seats over the lower trims and I don't fit comfortably. They are too narrow and bolstered for a fatty like me lol.
I had the last good tiguan. 2017 reflex silver. The strong ea888 2.ot, a true pocket rocket. It was tight. Not this enemic knock off with the weezy ccta with the B Miller valve system.
For this class of vehicle, I’d take the 2024 Honda CR-V awd EX-L over the Tiguan SEL. It’s far more reliable, has similar performance, gets better mileage, and has better resale value. Plus you’ll save about $3k.
Waiting for the 2025 Tiguan. I saw the Debut in the UK and it's a LEAP ahead with multiple engine choices and the most beautiful Dash in the industry. That Tiny Infotainment in the current model reminds me of the Mazda Cars that need a much-needed UPDATE!!! Wait for 2025 and Don't get the 2024. You will be sad you go the older one when the newer version will surprise you in every way possible, especially in the Design of the SUV!!!
Really good looking SUV, no doubt. Incredible color, wow. Not a fan of the interior, though. As usual, it’s as if they didn’t put any effort into the interior. And I also wish it had a V6 option. Something with more power, at least 300hp.
Not a huge VW fan but this car looks nice. I like the color. Both this car and the Jetta SEL seems great, I’m just worried in 10-15 years they will be endless money pits. I wish VW had a better reputation for long term reliability.
@@krane15 a lot of VW’s in America come with matrix lights but are software disabled due to regulation reasons. Requires datasets to enable as of now. VW hasn’t officially released any new vehicle with matrix enabled from the factory despite being legalized since early 2022. I got mine enabled on my 22 GTI
The electronic steering has a bad history of crapping out at around 65K. As does the turbo. It used to be faster and able to tow more before this version. It drives great, but It's over priced vs the competition. No thanks.
Hmmmmm Volkswagen, very odd where it sits vs the other german brands. Only thing I liked from the brand is the golf r. I almost got one but local dealer put a 7.5k markup with other stupid items
Probably the best looking SUV in its class. The issue for me is those touch-sensitive controls and VW reliability, plus this is a little more expensive compared to its competitors.
I have a 2019 SEL and the only thing I've had issues with is the AC/heating system. I really think it's just build to build issues, not a brand or model wide problem.
They should have kept this in the same class as the GTI and GLI. There’s no reason 184 hp should be hauling around this kind of weight. 210 would have been a decent sweet spot.
Any owners wanna share their experience? Wife is coming from a ‘22 Tucson lease - loads of issues. She likes VW but I’m mostly concerned about finding something more dependable. She doesnt like Toyota or Honda so that makes things difficult reliability-wise…
Hello Jake. My wife&I own a 2022 Tiguan SE ( it is front wheel drive and it has the 7 seats). We bought it brand new in February 2022. We are so happy with the car. Not a single issue with it ( the car has a little over 26,000 miles on it). It drives so nice, it has plenty of power and especially plenty of torque, for normal driving. Especially midrange torque. We drive often from Phoenix metro area in AZ to Flagstaff AZ, and the engine and transmission bevel feels sluggish going up on I-17 North. People care and talk to much about 0-60 time, when in reality midrange torque is more important. The car is very roomy. Even though the car has a little over 2 years now, and we have a daughter and a dog, everything held up so well inside. Many friends think it is a brand new car when they get in. The ride and handling balance is great as well ( even compared to our 2021 Mazda CX-5 Carbon Edition Turbo). It is also very practical, lots of storage, very well thought and designed inside and out in my opinion. I would highly recommend the car. I see and read some people complaining about VW reliability, but we have not had a single issue with the car, just normal maintenance.
I say go for the Tiguan. I have a 23' Tiguan R line Black. I got it January of last year. I currently have 28.6K miles on it. Commute miles to work and home. Since January 2023. It's been nothing but smooth sailing. It tackles curves with confidence. Rides smoothly. Gets up to speed with no problems. The 2.0t engine knows its assignment. Easy going and goes to war. In a drop of the hat. The brakes stands on business. It doesn't play around. Getting a VW. You'll be different from the rest. Many go for Toyota and Honda. Nissan as well. The highway is littered with them. VW brings. The game changer 😊.
@@AT-nq6cu - To each there own! The Hyundai is better priced, better equipped and a better warranty! BTW, I own a 2019 VW Arteon SEL Premium R-Line. Bought it new 4 1/2 years ago and still love it! It was the last year of the 6 year/72K mile warranty too.
US might not get the redesign for another 2-3 years. Has to go through the government red tape and VWoA watering down to squeeze the profit margins as far as possible
I mean it’s not quite GTI, but it looks like a mix between a big GTI and Golf R, it has very similar seats to the MK7 Golf R, same steering wheel as the MK8 golf R, it handles very well for the size and weight and it’s actually somehow a decently fun SUV if you compare it to everything else despite the underpowered engine, the only thing that’s close is the Mazda CX-5 but is a heck of a lot smaller
You continually omit the Kia Sportage or Hyundai Tucson when referencing other vehicles in this category. Their top models have much better tech, better interiors, and are cheaper!
I've always thought the Tiguan was a very beautiful car. If I was in the market for an SUV I would totally consider this if it weren't for that criminally slow powertrain.
They shorten the maintenance cycle to tame some issues. That makes it expensive to own. That vented shade is a mess. Glued onto aluminum rails. Hot in the summer, cold in the winter. And yes, it came apart.
Owner satisfaction is average, and no German car maker has a great reputation for reliability regardless of price. Audi is probably the best within the group. Although Porsche people do love their cars.
Have driven my 2024 500 miles now, lots and lots of bells but so disappointed in the motor. 5 years At zero percent is about the best part of the purchase
"It drives sporty ... when you don't need to accelerate fast." 😄 It's too slow for such a heavy SUV. Other than that, I like it -- even the smaller screen with real buttons (shock!).
I will never buy a Volkswagen brand again. I bought a new Tiguan in 2016 to avoid going to the mechanic. But in one month I had to visit the dealership to repair the vizor, after that I started having problems with the windows then problems started to happen one after the other till this year when I had to sell it and buy a Japanese car. I'm so disappointed in Volkswagen.
The RAV4 has the advantage of reliability. Something VW can't match. That's why its Toyota's best seller which is also scheduled for a 2025 redesign. The bad news it that the current RAV4 Prime is pushing 50k.
I dont understand people who buy a "sports looking" car. Its embarassing. Why spend extra money on a car that looks sporty but isnt. Just buy the base version.
Get a compact car and you will be much happier. The main problem especially Americans is people don’t know when to downsize when it comes to vehicle choice
@@krane15 you can’t please everyone and if one wants better fuel mileage as their main priority then compact sedans are the answer instead of flocking to SUVS and if you need space but not worried about fuel mileage then SUV or hell even a van is even better and does everything and more than SUVS but people shun them which I find weird and stupid. I just added to what you mentioned earlier
The powertrain is trash. Yes nice styling and decent interior bits but not a single enthusiast will consider this. I can think of many better ways to spend 40k
I highly regret not getting a Honda passport instead of my 2024 Tiguan R line, the car looks amazing outside, it’s about the perfect size, AWD is amazing in snow and slightly off roading activities, lots of space, but the engine it’s kind of loud and it makes some weird noises, somewhat underpowered depending on the situation, and not very good gas mileage at all for the amount of power
So let’s see, A small touch screen, non reliable and the price doesn’t even match that at all😂😂😂it’s like what’s the true point of buying a newer model at this point
