The true story of the all-black Twenty-Fourth United States Infantry Regiment, and the Houston Riot of 1917. Starring: Trai Byers, Thomas Haden Church, Bashir Salahuddin and Aja Naomi King Directed by: Kevin Willmott
Just watched this film. Powerful, intense, very sad. Proud to have been a part of it. I was an extra playing a military attorney in the court room scene.
@@douglasoelfke7854 I tried to before we shot the movie, but the price point was prohibitive. I researched as best I could (especially about the officer I played), but events like these tend to get buried in (white) history. The honor of a lifetime. "The Ebony Doughboys" Black WWI Reenactors are in the ranks. Art Collins, Luther Johnson , Algie Ward, Ari Lopez-Wei, Martin Shaw ,Steve Collins ,Steve Jones, George Jones, Collins Jones, Kevin West and Terrence Thompson.
I'm so excited about this story finally being told cinematically. I've been wondering if it was going to happen and now it has. Awesome. More people need to know.
It was a pleasure to be one of the extras playing a part that my Re-enacting group Ebony Doughboys does on a regular basis. Trai, Thomas Church, Mykelty Williams are great actors and nice people.
This is a powerful film that affected me deeply. Thank you to everyone who brought this story to me. I was a US Army Infantry officer, and I commanded blacks, whites, Simoans, Hawaiians, Hispanics, etc., all in the same unit. The experience of leading a rifle company of such diverse members changed and enriched my life and greatly enhanced my perspective. We have come so far, but we still have so far to go.
I cannot wait to see and support this film. Kevin Willmott really is a master story teller. Thanks to all of u who worked to bring such a powerful story to life.
I deployed with this unit on 11-12. Way before my time but it’s great to see a part of that units history come back to light outside of promotion boards!!! Semper Paratus!!
Awesome, looking forward to seeing this. I wonder if Jerry Lee from What Price Glory provided the uniforms and equipment? They look nice not the farby stuff from MTL.
Douglas Oelfke I’d imagine releasing on a Friday is more appropriate than releasing on a Sunday. It still coincides with the historical event, but allows for a longer premier weekend
@@NorthernWildsBummer understand completely. Saw a press release saying the release date was the anniversary date of the riot. I'm sorry. I'll be one of those irritating people. Have been researching it for 29 years. I tracked down a sister of one of the soldiers, back in 2003. I am glad this story is finally being told, on the screen.
You’re absolutely correct and that’s a true disgrace upon this country for the world to witness. We do appreciate and honor yours and your fellow soldiers for all that you’ve done for all Americans. It’s just one thing I’d really be interested in receiving your thoughts on if at all possible?
2 books I recommend A Night of Violence by Robert V. Haynes and Black Soldiers in Jim Crow Texas by Garna Christian. Dr. Haynes didn't know aboutvtje coroner's inquest papers on Sgt Vida Henry's body. I passed the along to Garna.
It's so horrifying to see a human-animal treat another human being like that with such hatred...just because the color of their skin....to me it's pure evil...it's too bad they are all burning in hell forever and forever...the fire will never be quenched for their evil deeds!..
@@annagreenedellera7864 keep supporting these riots and behaviors, keep teaching your child that is ok to not obey the law and to do whatever you feel like and then let me know how that ends. 🤷♂️ Cant wait to see the future that awaits for that child.
@@jeanferguson9063 Mr. Ferguson, Discontinue discrediting the racial discriminatory experience of people of color. That tendency is simply insult to injury. Why so eager to place all people in one pot when you observe a few exemplifying disorderly conduct? All folk demonstrating are not disobeying the law. They are tired of seeing black bodies murdered by police, blood splattered on the concrete, then police sent home on administrative leave.....*By the way, our child is a grown up opinionated, well-travelled, educated, and progressive polyglot, as am I. Neither of us are criminals but have often experienced racial profiling by police in the States and Europe. So what is your argument for this tendency? Racism is a huge problem for black folk. People of color are fed up, frustrated and unafraid to step up in this journey for equality. Maybe you should become involved in the community where you reside to initiate change in the areas you feel need improvement.. Be a part of the solution, not the problem. @Frederic Wells im just saying the time is the worst.. I guess I should ask you, are you in favor anything that encourage the VIOLENCE!! that is happening on the street right now?? 🤷♂️
@Frederic Wells thats great, all im saying the time is wrong, this racial thing has gone too far.. people are using that as an excuse to go out and destroy properties and people are getting killed in the procesos.. thats all im saying.. thx for replying.
