Buy a clean, one owner, 150k-200k mile RX, find a good mechanic, listen to that good mechanic, do maintenance at intervals the good mechanic suggests, fix what the good mechanic says should be fixed, drive the RX to 400k miles, sell it. Repeat.
When I get off a hard day's work..I get into my 08 RX350, start it up...drive down the road, smelling the leather and enjoying the Climate system, whatever the season...if you wanna know what it feels to be wealthy even if you're not...drive one of these puppies.
I own a 2009 RX350 with 72k miles….I bought it with 59k miles in 2020. This is and has always been my favorite looking SUV….I dunno why, just something about it that I have loved since 2000.
Just come across your video as I’m toying with picking up one of these. I’ve watched numerous videos I’ve been able to find on them and just wanted to say that yours has been the best I’ve come across. Well shot, well informed and well put together. Great content :)
@@wyomikey65 I have a 2004 RX330. I have it a year. I like it very much. Rides nice, I changed the radio put in an aftermarket so I have a backup camera now with WAZE and I powder coated the rims black to make it look cooler. It has 30,600 miles on it. It was laid up for awhile by the previous owner. The strut mounts cracked so they were making noise. I had two new struts put in, new brakes and rotors. Changed the hoses, thermostat and belts. I don’t want to get stuck somewhere. It’s a great car! My son has a lease so he borrows it for long trips and it’s been great! Rides real smooth. It’s my beater car to save my Wrangler!
I am grateful for this video post. I just purchased a 2009 RX 350 today. This post reinforced the notion that I made the right decision. Mine has a little more mileage, but I plan on keeping the maintenance up to speed; hence, I plan on having for years to come.
Christopher Lucas sorry for asking but can you tell us how many miles did it have abs how much was it? I’m thinking about buying one a 2009 or 2007 but I’m afraid of them being too “old”.
@@JoseFernandez-wu8pj Hello. No worries about asking. It has 178,000 miles. I traded it for my 2010 Tundra that had 185,000 miles. Thus far I've had no issues!
my wife has a 2008 rx350 in breakwater blue with 82,000 miles and it looks, drive's and feels like brand new,the thing is bulletproof it's as nice today as the day we bought it off the showroom floor,I drive a E-550 Benz as a daily driver and a BMW M3 for playing on the back roads love them both but always something going wrong with both of them,The Lexus is head and shoulder's more reliable then either one of them...
I come here having picked up a 2009 AWD RX. Same exact amount of miles all dealer serviced Carfax. Matador red mica when most are silver....sight unseen from a lexus dealership. I am sticking with no later than this gen Lexus or Toyota except my 12 ISF. That is one car I will drive until it blows up. Sadly Lexus and Toyota have gone down hill and I think even before mid 2000's. Can't have an 8 speed auto in your Camry that is becoming of has been an issue when Lexus designed the first 8 speed and came out in 2007 and was bullet proof back then but 11 years later they have issues with them? HMMMM GARBAGE QUALITY NOW SADLY
Bern, I really enjoy all your reviews input on cars. In my opinion you cover all pros and cons and your test drives are really thorough and detailed. I watched all you vids on Lexus RX’s and just purchased an 05 330 on New Year’s Day 2022!! I know your liking this 2009 model but It looks exactly like the 04-and up. I don’t see much difference, timeless elegance 🌟👑🌟 The only thing is I had to replace timing belt because we don’t know if previous owner did that. Cost 850$ right off the starting line but better safe than sorry huh? This sucks because my previous Honda CR-V 02, had a chain not a belt. I also prefer the tighter steering response in the Honda, but the beautiful interior of my new lexi is a treat. It really drives just as you describe! It really feels like a new car minus the new car price, I could have never afforded this car when new. I just hope it’s as low maintenance cost and reliable as my sweet Crv was🤞 I should also say that I bought it for 10,200$ with 93,000 mi, one owner, well maintained, always garaged, like new, interior and exterior👐 Definitely too high because of the crazy inflated, used car market. Looked up blue book, and should be only 7,500-8,000$ but if it lasts me with little repairs, I’ll justify it:)
I have a 2010 RX450h, Mike broke while I was idling in my driveway, dumped a quart before I noticed. Luckily I turned it off before any real damage was done. Did the solid line fix and it drives great. Easy to do and 100% worth it.
Very good review. A little disappointed on fuel mileage, but it is a V-6. I’m looking around at these models different years and that really was a great help.
That RX you’re reviewing doesn’t have Mark Levinson stereo. It wound be visibly marked on the right side of the stereo. Also there would be an additional speaker in the middle of the dash.
How xo you differentiate between the front wheel drive and all wheel drive models? Because you just can't tell the difference by looking at the outside, Lexus didn't put an AWD badge on the outside like they did to the IS and GS.
I use to have this exact 2009 to the T. I had it for 10 years and regret selling it every day. So if anyone has this exact car (year, colors inside and out, and features) in great condition and wants to sell, please let me know.
I pulled a trigger on a 2007 RX 350 in Neptune Blue Mica with only 87K miles and loving it so far!.. the miles is unheard of for a 14 year old car.. previous owner only drove it for a total of 6,200 miles per year if i did my math correctly.. i used to own a 2004 RX 330 long ago and had a great experience with it so I decided to buy another one... this SUV will last you a long time as long as you keep up with the maintenance which isn't expensive :) GREAT OVERALL vehicle and a HUGE fan! Thanks for the video!
Bernard, I found a 2004 RX330 AWD in Maryland last year. Owned by an older lady. Dealer maintained….22,500 miles built in the Kyushu plant in Japan. It has 31,688 in it now. It’s in beautiful shape. It’s great in the snow too.
@@golferpro1241 wow that's awesome!.. but one thing you gotta keep in mind, the 330's from 2004 to 2006 have timing belts which means it needs to be replaced every 80-90K miles or so.. but other than that, great vehicle all around :) .. these 2nd generation RX's still looks great today and aging like a fine wine!
Great review and beautiful looking car! I have the same 2009 Lexus RX350 with the Premium package in Silver and Black. 2009 was the last year that Lexus used "Real Leather" in their upholstery, which is why the leather is buttery smooth. It's nice to see a young person appreciate the luxury of a Lexus, and No it's not for people wanting to take corners at high speeds but you can drive one of these on long trips and be comfortable in doing so, and they are VERY reliable, and they are very safe as well. "The 2009 Lexus RX 350 scored a perfect five stars for driver and front passenger protection in frontal impacts. In side-impact tests, the RX 350 again earned five stars across the board."
Had a 07 RX350, not a reliable experience. Radiator and water pump went at 100k, Rack and pinion needed replacement, nearly $2k. Timing cover is leaking - nearly $3k in repairs. mirrors need to be replaced since the gel inside has melted. windshield washer pump failed. steering tilt motor stopped working. seals are melting around the front windows. Already had 2 ignition coils fail. Becoming a money pit
14:56 HAHA 🤣 smoked that Caddy SRX 💨. I’m interested in buying a 2007 RX 400h with 134,000 miles for $7000. Im a sucker for classy mid to late 00’s luxury cars, and I’ve always wanted a Lexus. Great, informative video.
I just got a 2005 w 122k. I am in LOVE WITH IT. It has the 100k service. Fan belt all done… Should I even do the trans flush ? Anyone know. Any info on needed maintenance? Thank you all in advance
Mine sounds like a diesel, but still starts and runs well... the navigation is absolutely horrible. other than that, it's a decent hooptie. I stopped feeding it premium a few months ago and oddly the fuel economy went UP, averaging about 24 now, still a gas hog.
Change your oil, spark plugs and ignition coils.. Most crucial out of all these is changing your oil, I do mine 05 rx330 every 3,000 miles, since it has 196,000 on the ODM. Preventative maintenance goes a long way. If you have one that is on the higher side of 155,000 and you stick to 10,000 mile tune ups, it will definitely began to slowly destroy itself and start to knock at idle eventually lead the catastrophic failure we all fear. So give it a little love and care, that is pretty much all it takes to keep these beauties running from point a to point b as easily as it did for us when they were a decade younger.
@@That1_CopDude I accidentally put 10w30 in it a few weeks ago... it's a lot quieter and isn't filling the PCV barf catcher as quickly. I would guess the previous owner didn't do much maintenance. when I do the plugs, if it lives long enough, I may adjust the valve lash. ticky-ticky-ticky
My brother-in-law is selling his mother's RX350 for $9000. It's only got 92,000 miles on it. As a lifetime Honda owner, I'm wondering if it's worth the switch. My current CR-V has 222,000 miles and still runs great. Thanks for the excellent review!
dude same thing, I have 2004 accord with 3,70,000 kms 9 almost same miles) and I am going to check out one tomorrow with 1,80,000 kms for 10 grand Canadian
It’s so funny, I feel the same way in that I’ve had my 2002 Honda CR-V for 20 yrs with 135,000 mi. I have so enjoyed this car💜 it just goes and goes ,only expensive things I had to put in was a starter=1100$ and engine light came on and failed smog for the first time so had to change the intake manifold and it passed=950$. Also started have some oil leaks, but only external not internal and just need to replace some small o ring gaskets at around 100$, including labor. So on New Year’s Day 2022, I saw a 05 Lexus RX 330 fwd with 92,000 mi listed for 11,000$ and decided I might want to try a Toyota even though my Honda experience has been reliable and enjoyable and fits my needs. I ended up getting it even though used car prices are through the roof and went against my usually wiser judgment, I really feel like an upgrade in comfort in my older age and my niece was needing a car so I sold it to her for a steal, but it’s family. So I too am hoping I made the right decision with this Lexus purchase 🤞 It was a one owner and seemed like new condition. It’s a beautiful car and I get a lot looks and comments from all age generations that like it’s timeless looks. But to me , most important is reliability and longevity, not just looks and status because I’m single and older and not rich enough to make wrong decisions at this stage of the game, but really am enjoying it🌟
@@godsgurl2231 I just bought a 2012 ct200h. Single owner, lexus servicedm mint condition, 1,50k kms for 14000 canadian. I filled up the gas today. It took 29 litres for 500 kms for just $45. I love it.
Just bought a 2009 with 83k miles! Fantastic car, it did have a few issues that popped up after purchasing. Thankfully we bought an extended warranty, we got all new struts, an axle, power steering hose, and speakers covered under that. Long lasting cars, just make sure you do your due diligence. Make sure you replace the original rubber oil cooler lines and Vvti lines to the updated flex pipe design, they're known for popping with age. Get a pre purchase inspection, or a warranty. Better yet, both. If we hadn't gotten the warranty, it would have cost nearly 6k to fix it completely. It just proves any car can have problems. Our 2008 ES350 has zero issues at 195k, it's just luck of the draw. 🙏
My 16.5YO son just inherited a 08 RX350 AWD from my wife, 160k miles are still runs like a champ after 16 years of in the family. Just bought her a 2024 NX350h, parks along side with my 2017 ES350. Lexus family for life. 😊
@@BernonCars Now I am waiting anxiously for the next gen ES hybrid, which should be a 2025 model. I will most likely pick up a 2026 model since I never buy a first model year after a major redesign.
these are great underrated SUVs imo. i've had a few rx400h's (the last of the lexus Suv's built in japan). reliable + bulletproof, great gas milage as well. i still think they look very good as long as they are in good condition.
they also have the jdm red tails for these cars - looks good. but imho not worth the trouble. considering the age/milage of the cars, good quality red tint would be the way to go.
I have an 07 with 246k miles and it's been a great car. Only real issue with the 3.5L is the oil cooler lines are a bad design and will blow pressurized oil everywhere. And rack and pinion will leak and is about $2k to replace.
Have you had to replace your oil cooler lines yet? Are the replacements any better. I would think they should be replaced before they blow if the replacements are a permanent fix. Have you had to replace your rack?
The oil cooler line is an issue no doubt. I recently bought a low mileage 09 and it blew at about 93k. The rack and pinion I am hoping is a mileage things. I had a 02 Volvo S60 I got 240k out that I bought at 80k and a 2004 BMW 325I e46 that has been sitting on Rhino Ramps in my garage for 3 months that my pops bought new in 04 and I got in 2018 with 140k and it finally blew the cooling system under the intake manifold at 200k. Anything that goes after 200k is living on borrowed time.
@@bikerbud3903 i have an 07 RX350 with 90k miles and will be watching this oil cooler line.. the fix is relatively easy (plug and play) and there's a video somewhere here on RU-vid on how to replace it DIY stuff.. the rubber hose were replaced by all metal which cost may be around $100-200 bucks.. should not cost you more than $400 with labor if you take it to a good mechanic.
We bought a 2015 RX350 base model with 40K on the odometer, it was 3 years old. What Toyota managed to do with these vehicles is just short of a miracle. Forget all the others , this is the one you want.
I love my 3rd generation 2011 RX350. Garage kept, has just over 100k miles and still rides like new. If you're in the market for a used RX350 I'd go for at least the 2010.
I actually see it very rarely. Here in Latvia. I'm planning on getting one too (2008-2013 version). But the Hybrid version because everyone seems to have them here. While we have a several thousands of BMWs, Audis, Volvos and other cars for sale, there are less than 300 Lexus cars for sale (in the whole country - Latvia). And from those 300 Lexuses, there are only around 120 lol.
Thank you for your honest video. I have an LS430, which I love, and could do with an RX350 to tow my caravan. Has anyone any towing experience with one?
Chris I don't think the RX350 is made for towing. I mean sure you can tow with it. But on that note I pulled the 4×8 size Uhaul 860 miles with my 08Rav4 I4 it did fine. I don't think I had 1600lbs of weight in it but engine and transmission did fine so I would have no doubt the RX would do fine towing light loads.
Extremely well-done, Bern. I've been shopping for an RX and, your video is the best and most descriptive explanation of features I've seen. Make mine an F Sport AWD.
Actually looking too purchase a used RX330 or RX350 mid 2000's. I'm hearing that the 07-08 RX350 is listed in the NOT TO BUY category. Ironically I see those too be the most common yrs for sale. I hear the RX330 is a descent model too look at. Any owner input would be great. Thanks
I bought a 2004 RX330 last year with 22,500 on it. I really like the car. I use it to save my Wrangler when around town. If you find a well maintained one pick it up but they want a lot for low mileage examples. I have seen them for $14-15,000! I paid $8,200 before prices went insane.
Liked your review on the Lexus RX 350, Lord willing and all is well with me by my birthday, I know what I want to purchase it's been a long time since I had a vehicle hoping God will bless me with this vehicle as my daily driver so I'll have great reliable transportation!😀👍Thanks again for the info.God bless!
Hate to be nit picky, but the 4th generation actually uses the newer 2GR FKS instead of the 2GR FE. They are pretty similar, but the main difference is the direct injection on the FKS.
Just bought one 2009 rx 350...I knew nothing about cars, I saw reviews on this suv and was sold, so far the best car I ever drove, I like it so much, highly recommend. No Bluetooth but oh well for the price and reliability I’m not worried. Thanks for the review.
I purchased a 2009 Lexus RX seven months ago with 125 thousand on the odo. Wonderful car with all the nice eminities. The only thing I dislike about it is the 270hp V6 engine. That's too much power for this car. I have a 99 Solara that I purchased new in 99. The 200hp V6 V6 in my Solara would be the perfect engine for this Lexus. By the way, I have 248 on the odo in the Solara. What was Lexus thinking when they were looking for an engine for the Lexus? Reminds me of the way Cadillac did in 1979. Just totally screwed up the car.
Nice video, and Lexus has recently came into my radar. What should a 2009 RX 350 with 99000 miles (excellent condition) go for? Should I buy even buy a 2009 Lexus in 2022?
@@stephanieshaw6049 Naw, I ended up NOT buying it...LOL...another car (a Camry) dropped into my lap at a better price and deal...as far as your RX: that $18,000 is kinda high. The max you should pay (even nowadays) for that one is $11-12,000. And then, at that price it should be excellent condition. (Remember, it's already 13 years old, so everything on it is 13 years old, too).
I had a 2003 years ago, bought it with 180000kms on it and sold it with 240000km on it. Only thing I had to fix was a new alternator in the 4 years I had it. The lady I sold it to still has it and has NEVER serviced it and it’s still going somehow!
I found a 2009 RX 350 Pebble Beach edition, but it has 205k miles... how many miles and how much did you get yours, if you don't mind posting that info... thanks in advance.
Lexus should never put a black dashboard in these cars. The cream is much more pleasant. The power seat is God awful, even GM has more functions on there mid level Terrain on the seat. Nevertheless, these Lexus RX are nice cars...I've owned three. They are so difficult to find used just a few years old here in the midwest. I'm impressed with the salesman here, very well informed sir
I like your style homie 👍🏽 Nice work G! I’m looking to get a 2007. I can’t believe these have eluded my radar for so long. Everyone is praising these! I can’t wait find the one I want.
Hey great vid. I actually just bought an 09 rx350. I was wondering if you have any recommendations for a mechanic? I've noticed we are in the same area
@@BernonCars oh that's awesome I wish I had the knowledge. I'd like to have someone at least take a look at this car. My former mechanic has cancer unfortunately. So I'm def looking for a decent spot. If any places come to mind please let me know. Hope you are well
