I tried an Antenna, but I couldn't get the 4 channels from the other side of the City. The channels were all within 8 miles of my home. I used to watch channels from over 100 miles away before we switched to digital. I guess my Dad might have done better with setting up the antenna after all he was a radioman during WW2 and then was a TV repairman after WW2.

Could be two issues here. First, is your home solid brick or metal exterior? Is the antenna inside the home? The home design could be blocking the signal. My home is brick and the indoor antenna has to be near the window to get a signal. Second, if you live close to the transmitting tower, it’s possible the signal is overshooting your home. This is similar to only have one bar of service on your phone when you are close to a wireless tower.

@@MikesWorld1 The house was wood and the antenna in the attic with a little brick (didn't matter) it was the same house I used to get channels over 100 miles away in when I was a kid, I moved into my parent's house after they passed. So you saying my Dad didn't know how to set up an antenna in the house even though the same antenna would get channels from 100 miles away back in the '70s??? Also, my neighbors could barely get local channels at least until my dad helped them with their setups. That's why today I use the free stuff off the internet. The towers for the local stations were about 8 miles away, I know where they are since when I was in grade school I toured TWO of the TV stations in my city, one with my dad and mom. The other is with my School in about 4 grade or so. I know exactly where all four TV stations were located since 3 are right down the road from the my mom and dad are buried today. I believe the other one is two roads closer to my house. I used to get on a bar on my phone but that's because one was on the other side of the hill and the the other tower had a hospital between me and the tower, which is what I assumed was the problem.

@@quantumleaper its HD signals now, much more data being transmitted for 1080p or higher resolution. You need a larger Antennae. Plus there are so many other radio waves saturating the atmosphere like cell towers, wifi, bluetooth ect. interfering with each other.

My HD antenna is about 7 feet in length about my old antenna is about 6 feet in length, does a foot matter that much, a 6-footer gets a signal from 150 miles away and the one that is 7 feet can't get them from 8 miles away? The difference is the old one wires up from a central point and goes about 3 feet to both sides, and the HD one goes for 7 feet in one direction, I didn't think that would make that much difference.

@@quantumleaper Idk then. I would think thats large enough. All i can think of now is maybe you need to go through the painstaking process of repositioning it, (turn it a few degrees) then rescan the channels on your tv to see if it helps. Each time you turn it do a rescan again. May i ask what brand/model HD antenna you are using? Some varieties need to be pointing in the direction of the signal, like a sattelite dish. Also, a clear uninterupted line of sight will help too. I set up a tiny hd one in the winter once, and when summer came the leaves on a big tree were enough to garble my signal. Had to find a new location for it.

Streaming is only "free" if you don't have to pay for your internet connection.

True, but the only person without internet these days are those who don’t have cell phones and that’s almost nobody.

@@anthonygallo3576You still need an Internet connection, my TV has an RJ45 on the back to connect to my Router. TVs don't magically connect to a streaming service, they might connect wirelessly to your internet connection, most I have seen are RJ45. I just wish my current TV had Component and VGA connectors like my old one. My newer TV does have 2 HDMI connectors so that is nice. No component so I have no DVD player without a convert box. How do you think Streaming works if it's not off the Internet?

12 Reasons why OTA DRM ATSC 3.0 TV will fail. Just say NO to (DRM). Tell your USA Government about the Hostile Takeover of (OTA DRM ATSC 3.0 NEXTGEN-TV) issues listed below. DRM (Digital Rights Management) Encrypted TV Station's signals. Why? Some 3.0 tuners at this time require you stay on the internet to decode DRM 3.0 TV Stations. Why? 3.0 Currently no 4K and you only get the Simulcasted main channel and no sub channels. Channel Crawling = super slow channel changing (DRM 5 + seconds slow). No sound because of Dolby AC4 audio codec does not have a legal open source license to decode legally on many devices. Some 3.0 tuners have Out of sync audio to video problems. Private Home Networked OTA antenna tuner boxes like (Tablo TV box) can not get official certified approval for DRM ATSC 3.0 NEXTGEN-TV. Why? You may need non OTA home pay internet for updates and to unlock DRM encrypted ATSC 3.0 tv channels. Possible DRM restrictions on DRM ATSC 3.0 recordings and no viewing anywhere on any device with no sound. Emergency alert messages can not be received if DRM is blocking them. OTA DRM ATSC 3.0 TV will fail because the FCC is not going to turn off ATSC 1.0 TV stations for many years if not enough people buy 3.0 TVs and 3.0 boxes. No one has solve the problem of no government money for free DRM 3.0 TV tuner boxes because 1.0 TV turners and recorders will not work after that TV Station switches to 3.0 TV broadcasts. (Range and signal error correction) OR (more sub channels and near 4k picture) trade off problem. FCC is not forcing any 1.0 TV Stations to move over to 3.0 TV. So some TV stations will be on 1.0 and others will be on DRM 3.0. The FCC is only allowing OTA Simulcasts of the ATSC 1.0 main channel at this time on DRM ATSC 3.0 NEXTGEN-TV. DRM ATSC 3.0 is a not finished product and is a work in progress mix of unproven ideas that has never gotten full FCC approval at this time. Software updates for 3.0 tuner boxes may be needed for changes made to the unfinished and future added new official ATSC 3.0 standards modules. Patent License problems. LG no longer sells TVs with ATSC 3.0 tuners. Some 3.0 TV tuners companies may go out of business or stop updates leaving you with no DRM or software updates. OTA ATSC 3.0 is better but is not perfect and still can be affected by weak tv signals: (distance, weather, planes, trees, buildings, trucks, poor antenna, etc). FCC rules that 5 percent of old ATSC 1.0 coverage area does not need to be covered anymore = (SHORTER RANGE). Viewing zone outside of your 15 minute city or town could be blocked. Your TV viewing habits could be tracked by your serial number or IP address. ATSC 3.0 is updatable until it is not updatable without new hardware tuners (ATSC 4.0, 5.0, 6.0, 7.0......). Some of these 3.0 TV issues may be fixed over time. This is only some of the mess with DRM ATSC 3.0 TV. This is my opinion why DRM ATSC 3.0 TV will fail. IMO. Stay on OTA 1.0 TV until DRM is removed from OTA ATSC 3.0 by law. It is the people versus the hostile takeover by private DRM 3.0 TV stations for control over the USA public airwaves. IMO 2024. ..

I work in TV. Local stations are not going to switch unless the government pays for it like they did when stations switched from analog to digital. Local broadcast stations are under financial strain and are cutting costs. They will not pay to upgrade their signal from 1.0 to 3.0.
