Frequently, New Testament authors were diligent record keepers of where things took place and who else bore witness. Sometimes they would even reference current events presupposing the reader's knowledge. In our case, we're not privy to the "news of the day," however, we can look to outside sources to fill in those gaps and give us a greater understanding of the Scriptures. Moreover, these events are subject to investigation and, in fact, have been investigated. What's remarkable is that every instance of historical record has been proven accurate - a testament to the authors' attempts to write truthfully and to God's divine hand inspiring the New Testament texts.
