I'm in the minority here, but I'm just going to throw this out there - I do not like the Elf shadow sticks. I'm a weirdo because I don't like that I can "feel" them on my lids - they feel heavy and tacky to me. Also, even though I had a few neutrals (in both matte and shimmer) they always seemed to look like the exact same shade when applied. After several failed attempts at trying to like these, I passed them on to some girlfriends.
I just bought a bunch of the elf eyeshadow sticks and I have to agree with you. Absolutely hated the matte colors, super hard and waxy and hurt my eyelids, not easy to blend at all. The only one I could tolerate was the copper chic metallic color.
My fave are Revlon Colorstay crème shadow pan. They stay on my lid allllll day. It does say 24 hours . No problems at all! Love it a lot. I wish they expand more shades as well.
@@cindykeenan7049 You would just gently place the tip of the crayon (the makeup part, not the plastic part) into the sharpener and gently twist which will shave off the crayon and bring it to a point!
After using fenty beauty, bobbi brown, and laura mercier shadow sticks for months I finally tried the e.l.f ones. They just arent pigmented. Compared to my more expensive brands they're junk. Idk why but they hardly show up for me at all. Very disappointing.
I love shadow sticks, thank you! Have you tried the Moira Beauty shadow sticks? I think they come very close to ELF sticks for longevity, non-creasing, non-smudging & they don't dry too fast. And they're very affordable 😊
I’m so glad these are back on trend. I was trying to put together an entire travel makeup set of only solid/stick products in late 2018, and they were NOWHERE to be found besides the e.l.f. in 4 shades only, which I already owned, and a higher-end brand (Laura Mercier Caviar sticks). They had had a “moment” already, maybe in 2012, where every brand including drugstore had their own eyeshadow stick line, but by the time I was looking for recommendations, everything was discontinued. I was over the moon when I started seeing them launch again everywhere (and e.l.f. drastically expanded their line!)
6:23 partway through but i just want to say this is TOP NOTCH. i love the swatches on your arm, the demos on your eyes and that you don't faff about with chatter. you get right to the point, have an engaging delivery, and swear to god you got me about to look these up now. -__- i hope your channel blows up, because you have everything here!! people just need to find you.
I just tried the Milani ones and I was so sad because all three were gorgeous colors- I got a gold, a coral and a lavender- but every single one broke either when I opened the lid or when I tried to apply! I wonder if anyone else has difficulty with the packaging ruining the product or with the tip crumbling ?
they're definitely soft but I keep it twisted down so that there's not a lot of pressure outside of the packaging if that makes sense, it's mostly still encased.
Great video, been loving eyeshadow sticks lately too, SOOO easy to work with. I love the Milani ones n the Elf (my favs) Btw… I also appreciate the big bold letters on the packaging 😂😂❤
Have you tried the JCAT Shimmie Struck Shadow Stick? It's very affordable, has a brush to blend the shadow out at the end cap and So far I'm in love with the 2 I have!💘
I agree with your #1 choice but.....I'm so mad/frustrated with ELF being all about the $ nowadays. They raise the prices and decrease the amount of product. So disrespectful to long-time customers like me. Maybe they got bought out by Revlon or something. Good video=THX!
I completely agree. I have been buying elf products for YEARS and I'm so upset by their huge increase in prices. while I understand inflation, this is really getting ridiculous.
They didn't get bought out, they've definitely been raising prices steadily over the years though. I tend to be more discerning with their product now because it's not just "great for $2" it has to really blow me away for the average drugstore price now. I think $5 compared to the other ones is still a great deal though!
I recently purchased 2 x Wet'nWild ones & 1 Nyx one ! I love 'em all !! I like stick types as they're very light usually & handy !! Great for a quick make up in the morning. One issue is ,just like lipsticks they can break & fall off !! Lol 💜🥁🐉🎤🎶💞
@tonifonseca9178 caviar stick !? That sounds familiar ,but not sure which one you're referring to !? My Wet'nWild stick eyeshadow ,one particular colour does that, too ! I thought at 1st ,it was the hot climate/ temps in Arizona as I brought them with me on NY trip there ! I bought another one in the specific colour here in L.A.( both bought here ) ,then it came lose right away !! Lol 😆I still use 'em because I love the colour !! 💜🥁🐉🎤🎶💞
I bought Bare with me by colourpop based on your recommendation and I love it!!! I bought the covergirl or milani eyeshadow stick but that doesnt stay as well and the shimmer makes my eyes cloudy. Their packaging is similar I didnt pay good enough attention and bought the wrong one. I wont be using that again. I should try the elf ones. EDIT: its the maybelline ones that meds with my eyes
I like the elf with milani just behind because of color choice. I like Rose Gold in elf and milani Champagne Toast! Thank you for reviewing and ranking Miranda! ❤
Have you tried the new maybelline eyeshadow sticks? I’m curious to know how those perform! I used to use the elf ones all the time but they eventually went bad and I decluttered them so now I’m thinking I might try the Milani or maybelline ones!
While I loved the ELF sticks, I have a similar reaction that some other channels mentioned - there is some sort of reaction (maybe there's an alcohol in it?) that makes my eyes sting/water for quite some time, even after drying down. It might be allergic becase it always makes me feel sleepy (some sunscreen do that too). So it totally sucks because those were just a major go to for color, blendability, and staying power on oily lids. :(
I have a holiday set of the elfs. I wanted to like them but 3 of them basically disappeared on my skin despote attempts to build on more color, and the fourth was way too dark. Sounds like it'll be worth trying at least one Milani in a different color to see if I get more joy from it than I did with the elfs.
same experience! I've just purchased Elf no budge stick in Rose Gold, and I tried very hard to build it up, but after literally "drawing" on my eye lids for a good while, I couldn't even see the color. The shimmer is there and it stayed for hours, but no color payoff at all. I am a white brunette with brown eyes. On my skin it looks more like Perfect Pearl and gets completely lost. @@slashedbeauty
Same here. They're not pigmented enough at all! There are only 2 matte colors and they are basically the same. Colors arent the same as shown on packaging after application, they're heavy and sticky. I'm shocked to see how many people say they like them or claim they're the best. Makes me think they haven't tried actual good quality shadow sticks yet.
I bought 4 of the ELF sticks to try. I agree they have good transfer resistance, but I felt mostly disappointed by them. The newest shimmery colors go on very sheerly, so I can only use them as a sticky base of sorts, or to highlight the inner corner. The glide and blendability is also very poor. I have to tug at my eyes to apply them on the lid or crease area. It's significantly better over moisturizer layered with concealer, but nothing to write home about. I ended up liking 2 of the sticks, especially the matte one called Cool Beans. The Matte stick has much better color payoff, glide and blendability. I have an older shimmer stick in metallic mocha and that one is better than the newer ones in the shiny packaging; I like that one to line my lower lashline mostly. I would return all of the shimmery ones and just keep the matte one, if I could redo my purchase. Just my thoughts, I know everyone likes different things. Also, I fall around NC 37-NC40 in Mac (I wear Nars Valencia), and the color Copper Chic does not show up on me. It blends in with my skintone. I also got the No Budge Retractable eyeliner and that also has poor glide, but its usable. Woldnt repurchase
This video came at the perfect time, because my favorite cream eyeshadows from Revlon (the ones in a pot) seem to be getting discontinued. I'm having trouble finding them but I love them because I don't need a primer on my oily lids. I have the elf sticks, but they are a little dryer than the Revlon cream eyeshadow. I may have to try out those new Milani ones!
Maybelline reformulated their pot tattoo shadows for the better. Thinner consistency, creamier so they don’t immediately dry out and now blend beautifully without being heavy or cakey. They also expanded to have more shades and even flesh tone to be an alternative to Mac Paint Pots
I love my Elf shadow sticks. I was excited when they came out with some mattes but that excitement went down after trying 2 of them. Both are browns, one lighter than the other. It's not the longevity that's the issue. It's the shades themselves. Once on the eyes they don't look like the colors of the sticks. Don't know how this happens but instead of seeing brown on the lid I see grey. So odd. As for the shimmers? They're better than LM, hands down. I don't think this color is still available but about a yr ago I found a steel blue shade at Marshall's of all places. For $2 I couldn't pass it up, lol. I don't wear that shade very often in reg shadow but now that I have this stick, I do...
I have a few shades of the elf ones and i use them every day for work and they last through the gym too. I'm just not in love with the shades they have and not sure I would take them on vacation
I do wish they'd expand the range for sure, but they're always in my travel makeup bag, at least the copper and pearl ones because together they make a really nice halo eye look!
Rimmel needs to bring back the sticks and hard candy needs to bring back the old baked eyeshadows! They had all these amazing eyeshadows and palettes and they have failed majorly in the last few years. The packahing was clear and beautiful black lace detail i still have a few of the baked shadows i can't help it ill never find shaddows like them. Ans the eyeshadow palettes they had in the tins was the best!!!!
I really like the maybelline ones but it depends on the finish. The sparkly ones can be a bit dry but the matte ones are SOOO nice and creamy while being long lasting!! Haven't tried the other two... yet! thank you for the recommendation!
I like both elf and the wet n wild sticks. Those are my go toos for when im trying to get out the door quick. Although i wouldn't pay pass $10 for shadow sticks so miliani would get a pass for me
I tried them based upon a recommendation by a beauty "editor" - I found the Maybelline "Tattoo" sticks difficult to use/blend, and worse than that, they dried and stayed sticky. I tried the matte brown and two of the lighter shimmer colors. The shimmers blended better than the matte, but all three stayed sticky for several hours. I exprimented one eye with primer and one eye without primer - it made no difference.
Thank you for this !! This is what I really need to watch !! I recently decided to use more stick eyeshadows ,again ! I used to for a few years as it was very easy / fast !! Great to get ready to go to work ,etc .!! Then ,I decided not to anything had talc ,or phenoxethanol. But,I started using those with those ingredients in 'emas long as it's at the middle or last in the ingredients list ,as for a talc ,it's usually listed very 1st ,or in the 1st line !! I try not to use that often in that case ! I am looking into gel / cream eyeshadows ,too ! I did use 'em a lot when I was teen ! Now ,I am aging ...powder eyeshadows don't look that great on me anymore ! 👍👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶💞
When you earn commission on items, it makes it hard to believe a word you said. You're now a paid spokesperson for those brands, are you really going to say they suck???
Not sure if it's your first time here, but if so, then welcome! I share both positive and negative reviews of products on my channel. Even in this video I point out a few flaws which may turn a buyer off (ie. the hard candy crayon literally disappeared from my oily lids lol). I've been at this for 10 years based on honest reviews, and since it's my full time job, affiliate links are a way for me to earn on average 5-12% if someone buys something on my recommendation. Keep that in mind... even on the high end if you were to buy the milani pencil, I *may* make $1.30... that's not worth lying and ruining the trust of my followers over lol. As with any content creator, you tend to get to know each person's preferences and you can see which ones you trust to make recommendations that would work for you as well. It's not in my best interest to just say I love everything, because that would get clocked real fast.
