Living in South Africa, and working at one of the largest PGM mining companies, this was a very interesting discussion. I use to work in coal as well, and fully agree with his view on PGM's and coal! Many thanks

Yeah I have a big slice in coal too. It's just so hated by investors, so it is ultra cheap cashflow.

I’m not really sure if he favors metallurgical coal over thermal coal. Would love to know more, particularly with the economic decline pressures on metallurgical but the population standard of living narrative regarding China and India and the rest of Asia regarding thermal.

Curious what Ferguson means by average position size of 2-3%. Does that refer to an individual company or to an investing idea - so that his total exposure to coal for example is not more than 5%, or could he have investments in a number of coal miners, each an average of 2-3% giving a total coal exposure significantly higher than his 5% limit.

I believe what he means is don’t risk more than 2-3% on a trade or an investment. It doesn’t matter if it’s in the same sector

Ask Germany who build billions of dollars worth of wind turbines over the last 10 years to replace fossil fuels only to start buying coal again this month.
