I did try this forehand swing . It is totally level. I was hitting smoking down the line with more power faster racket speed and when it ground the balls skit over pass baseline. I used do the old tradition forehand with top spin it safe but it not doing much damage against faster player. But this just give me little gain time advantage for the hitting to other side of net. Once it master the power now you can start picking target to go for. Even little 90 lbs boy can hit that with power. I saw him did so. I was shocked how much power on those forehand. Many thanks coach.

I changed my forehand because I was used to play with the Wilson profiles and my shots were very flat and believe it not most of my shots went in and I miss more shots using top spin, but I am able to hit a lot of different shots with top spin. Played a match today with someone who just dinked the ball over the net. Lost the match with two sets into tie breakers. Felt like garbage. Yet I was hitting with a friend before that who had a lot of pace and my ground strokes felt strong and accurate. Really frustrating part of playing weaker players.
@transamination
@transamination 3 года назад
@@KenanConvey Yeah. A lot of them don't even drop shot or slice, they just manage to hit an incredibly weak groundstroke that only just gets over the net, but you are so far back you can't get to it in time. I think the way to play them is to be well inside the court and use angles, and keep the ball really low (lots of slice and drop shots).

Hi Nick. Can you do a video about shaping the ball? I believe there's a little bit of racket catching and then pushing the ball especially when hitting the outside of the ball for a good topspin stroke and not just striking/hitting the ball. Many naysayers argue that the amount of time on the racket at contact prevents one from doing that. Can you shed light on the subject. Thanks.

Nic, there's one key aspect in power generation I was thought, it's called "Explosive Breathing" and I have found that I can use it to generate power in my Tennis. Let's say you have good technique and you are consistently hitting hard and accurately but want that sudden burst of power, I do this, I "contiously" (not continously) inhale deeply before I strike and as I strike the ball I exhale rapidly, "emptying my lungs of air" as I strike the ball while maintaining my technique, I have found that this is really, really, really explosive and is how sudden winners are struck in a rally, it makes my your shot 20 to 30% more powerful than usual thereby forcing my opponent to suddenly have to scramble unto the defensive. Actually a lot of athletes do this in a lot of sports and in tennis, it's known as the "grunt", realise that when you grunt louder than normal, you hit harder 😉, I'm not saying you "have" to grunt, I can do this without grunting, I learned this in rock-climbing when I'm reaching for a position I normally won't get to, it's called "Dyno" short for "Dynamic", it's quite intuitive in some but I took it one step farther and contiously incorporate this explosive breathing method into my strokes and now I can, at will totally change the pace of any shot dramatically at any time. I'm sure there's a lesson in Tennis for this but I have never ever seen it covered.

@@IntuitiveTennis nicely done and yes, I was semi holding before, ever since I started to use my breathing to generate power, the ball is leaving marks on the wall and it bounces back way faster and deeper than usual, when I practicing my serve it's leaving marks on the court so there's definitely a lot more power when proper breathing is used in the loading and release.

Mainly gobbledygook, Nick. Power depends on two things - horizontal speed of racket at point of contact (ignoring racket weight and string tension), and speed of ball coming the other way. You mention a couple of random things that help to increase racket head speed... But there is no systematic analysis of things that increase racket head speed. Like wrist flexion. If you take another look at the fastest forehand, you'll see house important the wrist flexion is. And it's really hard to see how "vertical momentum" increases horizontal racket head speed...
@seanoneil3886
@seanoneil3886 3 года назад
ID Charles, I agree with your gobbledygook comment, could you be more specific what you mean by wrist flexion? I Hope your not advocating the lag and snap theory.
@coilinnunan4058
@coilinnunan4058 3 года назад
Nikola is of course aware that some recreational players believe that it is a good idea to use the wrist to create power, and in particular to use wrist flexion at contact. He explains in this video that those who believe this are wrong ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mp7HV7vHEC0.html Yes, it's possible to use wrist flexion to create power, but as Nikola explains in this video it's a bad idea for a number of reasons.
@idcharles3739
@idcharles3739 3 года назад
@@seanoneil3886 the wrist can move 4 ways. Plus pronation and supination (which aren't wrist movements, they are forearm rotations) Flexion is the movement that you get when you hold your hand palm down and let the hand flop downwards. When you turn your forearm so that the thumb is up, then flexion is when the hand flops forward. It's not a muscle movement, it happens when to rotate shoulders with a loose wrist. Usually players don't let the wrist "break", (ie flex in front of the line of the forearm), the flexion happens from a lagged position to a less-lagged position. Watch any Federer, Nadal forehand. There are plenty of videos discussing wrist flexion. To get good racket head speed, you have to allow the hand to move forward (horizontal vector) in relation to the forearm. Somewhat like a whip - same principle. Just watch the pros - it's difficult to see, but they do it with almost every forehand. I am convinced that Nick from intuitive tennis also does it. There is lag and there is flexion. Some forehands that the pros hit, there is only perhaps 10 degrees of flexion There is also pronation of the forearm to get topspin.
@seanoneil3886
@seanoneil3886 3 года назад
@@idcharles3739 The forehand being demonstrated is perfectly fine and how most players hit their forehand. It is NOT however how the ATP pros hit their forehands (with a few exceptions). Elite ATP forehands start with the racquet head/hand on the outside of the body (w/ racquet head on the outside of the hand) allows for the ability to hit a HEAVY BALL (both speed and spin) At the highest levels (Federer/Nadal, straight arm at contact) the spin is produced by the internal rotation of the shoulder, not the forearm. Bent elbows at contact (Djokovic, Thiem) will require some forearm pronation and hand speed from the backswing but still mostly internal shoulder rotation. The one being demonstrated starts with the racquet head/hand on the inside of the body, which is a completely different animal, it doesn't allow for maximum head speed. You have to choose between speed of spin. Trunk dominated swing, where hip, torso, arm more together with little separation of body parts and very little if any independent arm movement. Look how close the contact point is to the body because of the bent at the elbow.
@idcharles3739
@idcharles3739 3 года назад
@@seanoneil3886 my point is that all the pros use wrist flexion on almost all forehand shots. Federer does, Nadal does. If you are saying that they don't use wrist flexion, I'm happy to find you some slowmo videos.

I did some maths on that video, and it's pretty clear the ball slows down enormously from one side of the court to the other. The average speed between when it leaves Blake's racket and when it hits the ground is about 80 mph (130 kph). The average speed up to the net is about 90 mph (145 kph), but over shorter distances the estimates get more and more inaccurate (only so much you can do with the 29.97 fps frame rate :-). The average speed up to the Blake service line is 146 mph (237 kph), but again, the margin of error is pretty large here. Time to read up on how these "speed guns" work :)
