My boyfriend and I are both studying electrical engineering at uni. He really wanted an Arduino for his birthday, but I don't have as much experience with them as he does. This was a FANTASTIC review video. Thanks for the helpful recommendations :)

The Elegoo Kit is a great choice. I have both the Uno and Mega kits. I have given them as presents to family and friends so I always keep one for myself in case someone has a question. Great assortment of parts too :-)

Yeah. I know it may seem like the "boring" choice, but they're just so good and anyone can pick one up and start blinking an LED in less than 30 mins.

I'm looking into buying my first kit, Amazon currently have the Uno starter kit at £43 and the Mega at £60 is the mega worth the extra money or (as a beginner) should I get the cheaper one?

The Freenove kit sounds amazing as a learning platform for new users like me to learn how some core components work... But I really like the offering (and price) of the Elegoo kit, especially because I love messing with ESP8266/ESP32 projects around the house and the components/sensors can all be used interchangeably. EDIT: I just checked the links and it sucks how both kits are basically the same price in the US, but here in CA the Freenove kit costs more than double what the Elegoo Mega kit costs 😳. I guess Elegoo it shall be... 😅

I have a lot of friends up there and they all lament the Canada tax on things. The little K40 laser cutter that we have here in the US for 375 can be 800 in Canada. You won't go wrong with Elegoo though.

Is the Arduino offical starter kit good? Im confused is it good than Elegoo?? I mean it should be better tho...

I would say it's okay. A lot of schools use them, but in general, you get a lot less for your money when you buy the arduino branded stuff. I want to be clear, it's not a BAD purchase...it's just not as good of a value as the other kits.

You definitely did not pick wrong and your purchase helped fund more development. The main reason that kit has never won is that you don't get as many parts etc for the cost. That certainly doesn't make it bad.

Is there a real world use for Arduino or is this platform made for experimentors .

Absolutely. There are all sorts of commercial projects that use it. People use it both for prototyping things that get turned into PCBs and then a lot of people use the regular arduino for that. I have hundreds of them deployed all over the world.

There's a Mega Arduino in most 3D printers and resin printers. They are just micro-controllers. There are micro-controllers all over your home. The Arduino is just a larger unit that is easy to wire up and code for projects and and prototyping. There are small versions that you can use for your final project if you don't need as many inputs or outputs.
