Welcome to a SPECIAL installment of Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re going to be taking a look back at 2023 and uncovering 5 of the BEST Harry Potter theories that I covered throughout last year. And when I say 5 I actually mean..SIX, because I couldn’t decide on which 5 to go with. I know we’re a LITTLE far in to 2024 already, but my intention is to do these at the end of every year.
Anyway, I won’t dawdle any longer, let’s get in to it.

Aside from his own obsession with the Deathly Hallows, Dumbledore had 2 good reasons for retaining the Cloak while the Potters were in seclusion. James Potter was still the over-confident, reckless teenager, surely no older than 20. 1) If James Potter has the Cloak with him while hiding, it will constantly tempt him to leave the safehouse. #2 If Potter had it, if Voldemort found him, the Dark Lord would likely capture it, making him far more dangerous. Remember, the Philospher's Stone is also at Hogwarts.
@paulyb7267
@paulyb7267 Месяц назад
There is ZERO evidence for your answer in the book whatsoever. Dumbledore having the cloak wasn't because James was reckless, but because he had only just found one of the three Deathly Hallows and wanted to study it more.

in my head Voldermort learnt his ability for unaided flight after his attack on the Potters and baby Harry at Godricks Hollow , Seperated from his body he became but a spectre of floating mist, forced to traverse the realm of the un dead. So, once returned to a permanent body this skill was consumed unto him

I very much doubt Lily was one of the first witches to inadvertently manage to fly. The first person Snape met who could? sure, probably. But with how common dreams and thoughts of flying I'm very confident that many many wizards and witches throughout the ages stumbled upon it over the ages, even if it was very rare. Even Neville managed it, in a way, when he first showed signs of magic by being thrown out the window by his uncle or whatever the story was.

Technically, you could say Harry flew, even if it was only one time. It was said he did once in the first book when running away Dudley and his friends. I believe it was said Harry had gotten onto the roof of the school him and Dudley were attending before 11 years old and it was as if he was swept onto the roof by a wind. With the thing with the invisibility cloak, I always thought Dumbledore borrowed it to keep James from sneaking out of the Potter house.

I've always thought that Lily was the one who mastered unaided flight (further developing the skill past what she could do in early childhood) and taught it to her then-best friend, Severus. It says in "Quidditch Through the Ages" that no witch or wizard in history had ever achieved true flight, and that was probably the commonly held belief among Wizarding families, but since Lily had no knowledge of the magical world, she wouldn't have had that preconceived notion holding her back.

My issue with the final theory is this: if that was the last piece of Voldemort’s soul joining Harry in Limbo, then why is it that Voldemort is entirely unaware that Harry is still alive upon both souls returning to their bodies? It was clearly demonstrated earlier in the series that the stunted body did not prevent Voldemort from hearing or seeing things around him. So shouldn’t he have been aware of what happened around him limbo as well? Why not just have Nagini kill him after they both returned upon seeing that the killing curse clearly wasn’t finishing the job?

Can we get a video about why apparition isn't used during duels? Surely one of the most powerful plays would be apparating behind your opponent moments before casting a spell, or apparating quickly enough to create after images
@DakotahSmith-gh1hl
@DakotahSmith-gh1hl Месяц назад
I wonder if it would be too unpredictable to apparate during duels due to the possibility of being spliced, or if you don’t move fast enough the spell might do something that wasn’t the intention maybe? I’m thinking back and even though a spell isn’t a knife like what happened to dobby it would still have the same effect maybe but like a halfway done spell.

If we can include Harry, can we also include Voldemort? Not only was he attached to Quirrell, he was also able to influence Quirrell. His fear of failing to return to his physical form and being defeated by Harry Potter was realised that year. Unless, by technical appointment as DADA teacher, the jinx was lifted and the proceeding DADA teachers simply fell to bad luck and Voldemort's interference.

Unless which ever parent was with Harry was wearing the cloak 100% of the time, I don’t see how it would be that helpful while they were in hiding. If James thought it was important to his family’s safety, he would not have given it to Dumbledore.

My personal head cannon is that Snape is actually a more powerful "natural" wizard than moldy voldy. Voldy had no capacity for makeing human connections so he was willing to go deep into the dark arts. Snape's feelings for Lilly stopped him from going all in. Power corrupts and even Dumbledore seemed to dabble when younger. A moral compass (however dysfunctional) would slow a wizard from going "too far."

I think the first time we saw the effect of Sectum Sempra was in "Order of the Phoenix": But too late, Snape had directed his wand straight at James, there was a flash of light and a gash appeared on the side of James's face, spattering his robes with blood. The spell did not have its full effect because Snape cast it non-verbally.

In regards to the Sorting Hat it is entirely possible that the Hat was made prior to Slytherin coming out with his pure blood views. As in it was made at the start of the school and therefore everyone had gotten along pretty good up to that point and Only later did his racial type bias become a issue. It is also possible that the Hats tampering by the other Three, specifically Gryffindor, led to Slytherins departure from the school as they had a falling out over that racial bias.

I don´t think the jinx on the Defense Against the Dark Arts Teacher is real. Is too powerful, for it to work i would have to manipulate events far beyond the teacher himself, including: Ministry law making (to eventually end Umbridge), ending life (Sirius) even the Dumbledore ring curse could be track to this Jinx (he had to have just one year left in order to be killed by Snape in the year he was a teacher). It affects too many peoples free will and random events in the universe in order to be just a random little spell Voldemort did out of spite for a bad job interview. It makes the horcrux and Patronus look like card tricks.

@@professorsassafras I don't know... I don't know what kind of bravery is that. Though I doubt he wouldn't have hidden if he would have found a place big enough to conceal him, Dudley and Mrs. Dursley from Hagrid. It's like facing a natural disaster you just can't get away from. You have nowhere to go, so you just face it head on, but that doesn't necessarily make you brave in my opinion. Being brave in my opinion is the ability to make the greatest sacrifice for the good of your loved ones, even if you have to put your life on the line. As much as Dumbledore has done some shady shie.... I doubt he would willingly sacrifice lily and James to fate, and certainly Harry would never forgive him. More likely he didn't want it to fall into Voldemort's hands... You could say that he could just magic himself invisible, but no hallow would ever be matched with magic in that way. It was fate itself that bent towards that day, just as it was fate that broke Ron's wand etc.

@yamahakid450f Месяц назад
Idk if the theory is on here, i just started the video, but with how intelligent Dumbledore is and his ability to read people, he always knew Sirius was innocent of the crimes he got sent to Azkaban for.. Dumbledore knew he never did and never would betray the Potters, but i guarantee Dumbledore knew who out of their friend group would have given the opportunity...but even so, he never tried coming to Sirius's defense...in my mind it's not that he didn't think about it or didn't want to, but he knew it was a much needed sacrifice for Harry and the Wizarding World as a whole.. Dumbledore knew that if Sirius got cleared of his charges and was released, he had full parental rights over Harry as his Godfather and he knew nothing would stop Sirius from taking Harry and raising him at his home, like James and Lily wanted...Which sounds great and all if Harry lived with Sirius throughout his entire childhood, but if that happened Harry wouldn't of had his protection charm from his mother's sacrifice, because he wouldn't be staying with a blood relative on his mother's side... and without the protection, Harry would have died in the first movie, at the hands of Quirell/Voldemort... Dumbledore couldn't risk that, so the safest thing was letting Sirius take the fall. By the time Prisoner Of Azkaban rolled around Harry was getting older and was relatively close to losing his trace and protection charm (not that losing the charm as an adult ended up mattering after Goblet Of Fire when he used Harry's blood to build his new body...Voldemort sealed his own fate with that decision...and up until that moment, Dumbledore believed Harry would have to die in the end, it wasnt until Harry told him what Voldemort did where he knew Harry could potentially be saved, but the only way for it to work was for Voldemort to kill his own piece of soul while the charm in Voldemorts blood left Harry untouched..and harry had to believe he was truly going to die by sacrificing himself for it to work, which also ended protecting everyone else at Hogwarts from Voldemort because he willingly sacrificed himself for everyone else, just like his mother did for him... Had anyone other than Voldemort attempted to Destroy the piece within Harry, the entire vessel would need to be destroyed in order to kill the piece of soul within, so that means Harry...and Dumbledore never predicted Harry getting mastery of the Elder Wand and having it used against him by Voldemort, he just wanted it to be unusable for Voldemort...and he also knew that Snape would end up dying because Voldemort would believe it belonged to Snape, not Draco...but the elder wand would of refused to kill Harry, it's true owner, but it would have gladly killed Voldemorts soul within Harry without giving Voldemort any fuss...So Harry was double protected in the forest lol.) Anyway, he somehow knew Sirius would be on the run from the Ministry after being rescued by the trio, so Harry couldn't feasibly go live with him regardless, and he knew Sirius wouldn't intentionally put him in any more danger in the process of being on the run... so he didn't see it as a risk like if he was completely free. The first part is 100% true about Dumbledore knowing he was innocent and why he wouldn't help Sirius, but the last part is my own theory on why he chose to help free and save him from the 'dementors kiss' in the 3rd movie/book, when he didn't before while getting sent straight to Azkaban without a trial... when Harry and Hermione went back in time, somehow past Dumbledore knew exactly what they were up to, almost like he's seen it play out previously (or told) and distracted Fudge at the precise moment to allow Harry and Buckbeak to get away unseen by the Minister...Even his future self mentioned that '2 innocent lives may be spared' and in the end they needed Buckbeak to save them from Lupin, to get to where Sirius was being held in order to break him out, aswell as for Sirius to escape on... is it a coincidence one couldn't be saved without the other? He sure wasn't surprised when they came back and Hermione told him they successfully saved Sirius and Buckbeak... Did he also have a time turner to go back and tell or instruct his past self (i feel like if anyone could interact with themself in the past without screwing things up, it's Dumbledore.. he'd just find seeing another Dumbledore randomly 'fascinating', hell, he might do it often in order to have another intelligent person to talk to and help figure things out with lol) or was that Dumbledores future self? Regardless, he somehow already knew the outcome was going to be successfully busting out Sirius but Peter getting away, making them unable to clear Sirius of his crimes, and Harry wouldn't be able to go live with him and he'd still be staying with the Dursleys making the protection still active... Or is it just that he's Dumbledore and somehow knows everything that was happening and would happen? Or maybe he had no idea on the way down to Hagrids and he somehow realized what they were doing, where they were hiding, and decided to act as a distraction in that exact moment to help them? The last option is the least likely...

For the first theory- If Voldemort was talented enough, to learn unsupported flight on his own then there is a good chance Severus did the same on his own. However I tend to agree with Minerva, simply because Voldemort valued Snape. When there were DE he was happy with he rewarded them. For the 2nd theory I go with the idea that he wanted to unite the Hallows for himself. No I think Snape did use Sectumsempra on James in a restrained version and healed him, which would have given James a warning without words (Don't F with me). I think he created the curse to use against all four of them, rather than just Remus. Salazar allowed HB witches and wizards if they valued their magical heritage only. There were no MB students in Slytherin house, only PB or HB were allowed. A MB in Slytherin would have been physically and/or mentally abused.

@@carsonfabig9801 Well, as Professor Snape said, he did raise Harry as a pig for slaughter. Dumbledore doesn’t exactly make the best decisions when it comes to Harry. He’s supposedly this good great protector of the innocent, but seriously, man. What Dumbledore did to Harry was pure evil, not too far away from what one would expect from a Deatheater. Even Professor Snape finds Dumbledore’s actions relating to Harry rather repulsive, and he’s not exactly innocent

@@koppadasao you are right dumbledore is not pure good. But I personally don't think it is quite black and white. Death eaters are extremely one dimensional when it comes to motives and ambitions. Dumbledore is a much more complex character with, yes, flaws. I mean imagine the burden on one's shoulders when the fate of the well-being of the entire wizarding world lies on your shoulders even though you only wanted it as a teenager and once you got a taste of what all this can cost not only you but the ones you love. I think the Dumbledore talking about the greater good and all the sacrifices that had to be made was 100% right. He just didn't fathom he would have to sacrifice too. What I'm trying to say long story short is that he knows that some sacrifices are necessary maybe even the death of Liliana since this did set him on a path away from a dark lord. If you had said oh I think Dumbledore could secretly be a dark lord I would actually kind of agree with you. But the death eater thing makes no sense in the way that not only his kind of rivalry with Grindelwald shows in my opinion that he would not accept to be someones servant as death eaters unfortunately absolutely are. He knows he's destined for great even when it is "just" taking care of generations of young witches and wizards. He's the greatest headmaster of Hogwarts that is mentioned quite a few times iirc. And I think that he would never accept Voldemort as Master since he thinks Tom is inferior to him. And yes the whole love thing is also kind of eh but if we take that for granted then there are scenes in which we see that love produces incredibly powerful spells and magic out of thin air. Although he did lead Harry to slaughter I'd urge you to consider that he actually knows love is the only true way to defeat death. I'm going to go off on a tangent now, but please bear with me: obviously the protection charm of lily potter, but also in so many smaller parts, like Hermoine not being able to alter the death eaters minds for good since it would damage them but to protect her family? She wipes everything reminding of her existence away. Not a single trace left. How could the Privett brothers could have become the masters of the deadly hollows? Only by abandoning their own selfish reasons and band together as a family or perhaps two of them sacrificing each other for one and then the youngest brother. When he gives up the mantle for his son to be protected does he not greet death arguably the most powerful entity period like an equal? And what is greater then a parents love for their child? I think that love in HP can be attributed with being willing to sacrifice yourself not for your own selfish reasons but for others and you guessed it the greater good. Harry is only able to become the master of death because he is willing to die for others after obtaining the hallows. Now what does that have to do with Dumbledore I hear you ask? He knows all of this. He knows the only way to true power is love and the ability to sacrifice yourself for what you love or and, this is my point, what you love. And I think someone as power hungry and knowledge thirsty as Dumbledore would love Harry for showing him all of this. I would argue without Harry he might not have fully grasped that. So I agree that he always had the potential to be a dark lord. I think he has the character flaws to be one. But he's too smart to choose that way in a world where love is kind of meta or simply stronger. At least that's my 2 cents on this.

I never understood why the Elder Wand wouldn't work for Tom, is it direct combat related only transfer? Yes, Draco did disarm Dumbledore and yes Snape "finished him off" but he was already in the process of death from a curse that Tom placed himself so shouldn't the wand obey Tom?
@carsonfabig9801
@carsonfabig9801 28 дней назад
I believe that it is the exact reason as to why it had to be Draco or Snape. Dumbledore wanted the Elder Wand to not have a master after him. After having a curse placed upon him that would ultimately kill him and place Voldemort as the master (yes I believe that would have worked) he needs someone else to kill him. He could anf should have stopped Draco after he started hurting his pupils. But ultimately it was more important to place the ownership of the Elder Wand in the hands of someone who could be defeated. Snape was surely going to protect Harry at all costs (even death) and Draco was never a good duelist but relied on cheap tricks like starting to attack at 2 instead of 3 giving him the edge. He could always lose the ownership. Now even if there are a lot of things that need to go right to have Harry take ownership it makes sense that Dumbledore took the risk of all these uncertainties since the chance of giving Voldemort the Elder Wand must surely be better then that happening for certain.
