This list is so horribly wrong…..JAL is the best premium economy in the world by a long way…..42inch seat pitch, shell back seating so nobody can recline on you…2-3-2 and your own small cabin….lounge access….extra luggage, premium boarding etc etc. ANA is also better than these 5, the only one that should remain on this list is Singapore Airlines…..very poor research for these 5.

I flew JAL premium economy earlier this year and it’s amazing. The food and IFE were wonderful and the seat was very comfortable.

Haven’t flown Emirates yet but it looks beautiful, spacious, subdued seat color, definitely classy. May fly next year.

As others have mentioned, JAL has a very good PE seat at 42” in a self-contained shell. Lounge access is included and the lounges in Asia are quite nice, particularly Haneda. The only place where, personally, I think JAL is lacking in PE is in food. Business is fantastic, but on a flight from HND-SFO, the meals were pretty sad, with the second meal being some kind of mystery mix-it-yourself noodle dish that was supposed to be “sustainable”. Our usual route takes us two to three times a year from SFO to Singapore or Bangkok. Our preference in PE is ANA. Seat’s a little smaller at 38”, but I found the comfort a little better than JAL and slept longer. Food was much better in PE, though as noted, JAL surpasses in business. ANA includes lounge access, though their HND lounge gets packed. But they use the EVA lounge in Bangkok and that is fantastic. Because of a great Black Friday deal, we’ll be trying Singapore Airlines in August. Used points to snag business this past year and it was, as expected, phenomenal, even on the 17 hour 😳flight SFO-SIN.

I agree!! JAL's self contained shell + face privacy partition + usual japanese excellence in service is not to be undestimated (also ANA's PE is really good). Strange about food, because usually food is reallly something (good) on japanese airlines!

I've travelled Eva Air premium twice now, all be it 11 years ago, at that time the upgrade wasn't too expensive, from memory it was about 50% more, but just can't justify the extra money now , as you say it's double the economy fair these days.

Why have premium economy prices almost doubled recently? I have travelled EVA many times, but this year it is unaffordable for most people?

Agreed. JAL is best. ANA not bad either.

JAL's privacy "combo" (self contained shell + face privacy protection) offers an unbeatable "premium" feeling: it is almost better than some business classes with standalone seats but not an inch of privacy from the other seats in the cabin!

Delta Premium Select no longer offers stainless steel cutlery. They're back to the disposable (compostable bamboo, I think) cutlery.

I prefer PE have 2-3-2 seat config. My experience with Virgin Atlantic is poor, that airline lacks integrity and do not follow thru on promises, CS, never again. Singapore airlines is great, terrific service but not cheap. Have not flown Emirates but JAL and Nippon Air have exceptional PE but JAL is expensive compared to NA but a bit better.

How in the heck can you have Delta when Japan Airlines is not on the list, there no way Delta is better than JAL period.

Eva air: the level of service stands out? It is horrible! The close all windows the WHOLE flight mandatory on a DAY flight. Wine is poored in a carton cup and the serve breakfast when you land at 20.00h (8PM). The food is not good at all. In my opinion one of the worst premium classes. However, they do have seperate toilets for Premium, which is a HUGE plus.

I have flown on Delta Premium Economy many times and have been very pleased. NEVER EVER will I pay for Virgin Atlantic premium economy. Worst ever. No difference from economy and twice the price.

That's rubbish. First thing I wonder is, were you actually in a Premium seat or were you in an extra legroom economy ( Virgin call it 'Delight' ). In PE the seat pitch is identical between airlines at 38. Width on Delta is 19 or 18.5. Width on Virgin is 21 or 18.5 ( newer ). Over a range of reviews, Virgin food and service is regarded more highly. Your flight may have been a bad sample but then that can happen the other way round quite easily. Other differences between Virgin economy and Virgin PE are - twice the hold luggage, priority boarding and higher standard of food. You described "no difference", which makes me wonder if what you upgraded to was Delight, which only has a few extra inches of legroom, nothing else.

It makes more sense to compare PE products between areas e.g. transatlantic, to/from Asia, etc, to get a better picture of what choices you are left to consider. Most PE comparisons make this mistake however. There were some silly things said in this video. Its not among the better ones, sorry. Whoever scripted it didn't seem to really know what they're talking about. There's lots of info for sure, but seems to have been drawn in from sources by those who don't really themselves know what they are doing, otherwise they would have noticed both the captain obvious things that should have been silent and the absurdities that went out in this video. The best PE services tend to be charged much more for, as a general rule anyway. Click around and you'll see. Then the question of whether its worth it really comes into play. A relatively ordinary PE product will typically be found for less. The same applies with Business Class too, where the better regarded ones typically you pay for commensurately. Some airlines have quite a cheek frankly, to describe a seat as PE when its only offering a half inch more width than in economy. I am disgusted that many airlines were tempted by the cabin dimensions to opt for one more in a row than they ought to have. I give credit to this video for at least recognising there are differences between aircraft within airlines. I wish airlines would operate consistency, so you know if you opt for PE with an airline you know you're getting x inches width. With airlines that operate many different aircraft types and may have a higher degree of substitution off what is planned, this really matters. But also, you should consider differences between classes within the same aircraft, as that can be a huge factor in deciding whether to pay more for PE. The best example I can give is Virgin. They let the hard product decline by two and half inches width for configurations in their newer aircraft , A350 and A330-neo. The wider 'old school' PE seats are to be found in the 787 and older A330-300. Just the way the cabin arithmetic works out, economy in an A350 is actually pretty good, as economy goes. Its not just the stated width of the seats but other spacial factors too. However, in that aircraft the airline were tempted to densify the PE cabin, such that the width is a whole 2.5 inches less than on previous aircraft. So you have a pretty decent economy and a modern fresh looking but much narrower PE than before. If you can fit into the economy space then is it really worth the extra for PE ? Contrast that situation with the 787 Dreamliner. It is an aircraft known to be terrible for passenger comfort in economy. Its not only the stated seat width but also other spacial factors. Its not nice. Whereas up in PE you have those lovely 21 inch wide seats. The unusually large difference between classes in the same aircraft make a stark reason to want to choose it for sure, so long as the price is reasonable. On aircraft /airlines that provide only marginally more seat width, like say when its only a half inch, I'd also point out the fundamental difference in design between PE and economy seating can sometimes make you wonder if you're getting any width benefit at all and can even make it worse. Notice how in economy there are armrests yes but otherwise its open space between seats. Typically in PE the seats have hard physical dividers, not just armrests. Thus into that 18.5 inch space will fatty be squished. In economy fatty can spill through to the other sides. Of course that's not good if there's actual people next to you, but if you are good at gaming the booking in your seat choice and maybe travelling on a less busy flight, then in practice, in width terms you can actually be better off in economy than you are in PE ! Maybe just take a comforter pad to be more comfy on the botty and if the seat next to you is indeed empty you can use the ghost tray to eat off sideways ( not being able to get your own tray down past your fat guts ) I cannot tell you how angry I get to see seats of 18.5 inches being sold as PE and sadly that is becoming more of a standard nowadays. I'd like to think that PE seating should at least be 19. If airlines aren't tempted to densification in PE cabins you would still find more at 19.5, 20, 20.5, even 21.

you should not include Spore airlines on the list no3. It should be no 6 or 7. Premiumm Eco Why.??? Food being served same exactly the same type and size as Eco class. then their restrooms for premium and eco class are same ones. Long line and wet too. on long haul flight is not an acceptable product. Any airline on Premium eco with recline 9" or !0". ????

38 inches of leg room on Virgin Atlantic? How is that measured? 38 inches is already over 3 ft.

The typical measurement is from the start of one seat to the start of the next seat--so they are not measuring "leg room"

Eva does recline. Tbh, I felt more comfortable on their seats than singapore airlines. For a short flight from Singapore to Taipei, i actually fell asleep. And i had taken the 18hours flight on Singapore Airlines and had difficulty sleeping. But the food, i somehow find the food from Eva blend and unflavoured. Maybe it's just me.
