Listen to Hyram!! As a 55yo Australian woman, we grew up not wearing any sunscreen at all and now I’ve developed a Photosensitivity disorder on my arms (from sun damage). So now I’m much more at risk of skin cancer and have to wear long sleeves all the time now (when I’m in UV light), even on cloudy days. WEAR YOUR SUNSCREEN ❤️❤️🇦🇺
@@bron8290No the act of smoking is what is actually harmful as it damages your lungs and gums. Edibles probably have little to no negative health effects aside from possible mental issues in certain people.
I live in sunny California and its awful how many people dont use hats or sunglasses during long hikes or walks outsides, theme parks etc. Its not about wrinkles its about avoiding skin irritations and skin cancer. The sun can also damage your eyesight in the longrun. Spf can only do so much, plus you have to reapply. Wearing protective clothing, hats and sunglasses is just as important
As a 43 year old who grew up before RU-vid was a thing and whose mother (or father) never talked about skincare, I got a late start. Luckily, I have good genes. And now that my daughter is 22, I make sure to pass along all of my recently acquired skincare knowledge. Kids growing up these days are lucky. They’re all gonna look 30 when they’re 60. 😂
@@sofac8252 Ummmmmm….okay. While climate change has no doubt thinned the ozone and probably made the sun a bit stronger, the effects on the skin between 20 years ago to now probably have not changed much. What has changed is what we know about skincare based on scientific research. Skincare products are better, and access to knowledge about skincare is much more accessible.
I have a tip based on my experience of getting sun damage on the driver's (left) side of my face over the years. UV filtering window tinting for cars! I WISH I'd always had this, but sadly it's only something I've had in the past few years. Hyram, it's so great that you're passionate about skincare at your age. I tell my 19-year-old daughter all the time to take care of her skin now since it's better to prevent skin problems than to treat problems after you have them.
As someone who is in their mid thirties and frequently gets mistaken for being 16-18, I can't STRESS sunscreen enough. I have been reapplying since I was a child and haven't got a single fine line as yet!
The one thing I really expected to be mentioned is alcohol! A big one lifestyle wise was quitting caffeine a year ago. No coffee, black tea, green tea, caffeinated soda etc. it was hard for the first 3-4 months then the magic kicked in. Premature skin aging wise it helped me with getting more sleep tremendously and also with stress. I keep getting 8 hours consistently because once 9.30-10pm rolls around I just can’t resist going to sleep any longer whereas when I had caffeine I would stay up until much later thinking I’ll do something productive or watch a movie or just be on my phone etc. No caffeine also chilled my out more mentally so it helps with stress (I have young kids so having more patience and perspective is golden).
@@wassermelonification I know! 😭 The benefits of going completely clean of caffeine was worth it though. Caffeine is such a powerful substance, many people don’t realise they are dependent on it and how much it’s messing with their sleep. I miss it though sometimes, especially before exercising and if I have a work task I was avoiding.
You are posting so many long form videos recently and I am SO here for it. I love skincare and I love learning new things about it especially if I learn it from you!!
Hyram, my skin has never looked better..i rarely get breakouts now, maybe like twice a year, one pimple shows up and it's all thanks to you. Thank you so much❤
Use umbrella or wear cap/hat. Avoid peak sun hour usually from 10 am until 2 pm. In fact, I try to avoid direct sunlight when it's 8 am until 6 pm (I always use umbrella if I still need to be outside during that time), it may seem a little extreme but it didn't feel like a chore anymore once I was used to it, I want to look 20s when I'm in my 50s.
Can exercise regularly too, try to walk 10k steps a day, workout 3-4 times a week, control sugar intake, less sugar intake is good for the skin in the long term, let's age like wine guys
@@blessbabe3156 walking 2~4 hours a day for me out in the wild metaphorically speaking works for me, wish the world was more pedestrian friendly in general especially women
Important note regarding sunglasses: make sure the pair you use filters out 100% UVA/UVB radiation. If you don't, your sunglasses could be causing more harm to your eyes than not, and here's why. Normally, bright light causes your pupils to shrink, restricting the amount of light that enters your eye. When wearing sunglasses, the pupil doesn't react the same way, so it lets more light in. If your sunglasses aren't correctly filtering UV light, you will get MORE of the damaging effects into your eyes when you wear them. That's why it's so important. You don't have to get expensive polarized lenses (though those will reduce glare, and thus squinting), but you DO need to make sure the lenses are filtering out UV light. If they aren't, you could be secretly damaging the interior of your eyes.
Sunscreen doesn't have to be an extra step. There are lots which can potentially double as a moisturizer or antioxydant, depending on how heavily your routine focuses on these points.
Exactly! I’m a busy mom so I just squirt ALL my complexion products on my hand (tinted spf, moisturiser & a glow product), rub it together to mix everything then apply to my face. BAM!
I've read that when you have moisturizers that also have SPF, the amount of product that you need to apply to your skin to get the spf protection mentioned in the bottle is significantly higher than the amount of product you need from a regular sunscreen. So, if you use a sunscreen that can double as a moisturizer, you may need to do a little research on the specific product to know whether you're getting the actual spf protection or not. I've seen videos where people apply the amount of moisturizer needed to get the advertised spf protection, and their face is basically caked.
You are more likely to underuse tinted products than spf moisturiser. There isn't really an official difference between spf moisturiser and sunscreen. Sunscreen just emphasises different things and moisturiser is unlikely to be water resistant. You need same amount of both. If you are underusing spf moisturiser you are underusing sunscreen. Makeup with spf is usually used based on what looks good, so easily underused. Still, if you underuse spf moisturiser, underuse spf foundation and underuse spf powder, you are in total fairly well protected. And layer, don't mix. You need 1/4 teaspoon for face, neck and ears. If you use less moisturiser than that, why are you bothering with moisturiser at all?
@@Ruinwyn you know what, I think I might be underusing spf with my clever shortcut method 😳😭 I’ll have to reconsider. I’ll try mixing moisturising spf with tinted spf to increase the spf content of my concoction.
I purchased this pillow mentioned in the video a year ago and I’m really happy about it. I wasn’t sure about it in the beginning because of the price and it sounds like a money grabbing thing. But trust me when I say it’s been a life changer for me! My face is not as puffy as it used to be. The pillow is indeed very comfortable. I can’t say that my face has less wrinkles or that the pillow is helping the premature aging because I use retinol, exfoliate, hydration and since recently also Microneedling. But I feel like it’s helping a lot. So if you’re debating on getting the pillow. Just do it. So worth it ❤
Besides sleeping, also changing your pillow covers helped me so much. You don’t want to sleep on dead skin cells for so long. Especially when you use good products at night that could give you great results but could be less effective because your hair sits on it unless you wear a bonnet or you don’t remove your makeup enough.
I struggled a lot after I’ve gotten over eczema that really damaged the skin and its elasticity mainly around my eyes. Massages and face yoga together with good deep moisturising products helped a lot. Nowadays I see premature aging mostly due to the stress and anxiety. It’s really obvious on my skin when I’m having hard times. However, during such times I also sleep poorly, so I guess there are more factors involved. I just hope anyone who is struggling with eczema or mental heath knows that nothing last forever and I wish you all a lot of self love while going through this ❤️
Mental health is the number 1 factor that affect your skin as much if not more than sunscreen. I have aged 5 years in the span of 1 year from mental health breakdown.
Another tip I wanted to add is try also wear spf protective clothing such as wide brim hats, long sleeves that have the spf rating on them etc it is so helpful!!
I don't know if anyone here has tried the Goodal Heartleaf Calming Moisture Sunscreen, but it has quickly risen to become the best Korean sunscreen to ever grace my face. It's out of stock at a lot of places for good reason: it's lightweight and soothing, with no EOs, white cast, fragrance, niacinamide, or eye sting. It's also incredibly affordable (I recently found a great 1+1 deal at Olive Young for $18). I can't sing its praises enough. Goodal killed it with this formulation.
PSA: the Scinic suncream has new packaging. I've compared the ingredients list on both the old and new packaging and they're exactly the same, the product also feels the same so it doesn't seem to have been reformulated, thank goodness!
These were great tips! That special pillow looks super comfy. And thank you for all the new sunscreen recommendations. I am always mindful of always wearing sunscreen on my face and neck during the day. I have been using the cerave face sunscreen and really like that one but I like all your Korean sunscreen options too that don’t have a white cast. I do get lazy with putting on sunscreen on my arms and legs during the day mostly because I work indoors and the only time I go outside would be to drive home from work. But I always apply body sunscreen if I’m wearing shorts or if I’m at the beach. The one thing I have to remind myself though is to reapply my sunscreen during the day. It’s so easy to only apply it in the morning and then think that it is good for all day long when it technically should be reapplied after a few hours. Also I liked your tips about tanning. I’ve never used a tanning bed before and I agree they should be banned by now, but I still haven’t given up on wanting to get a natural tan (of course applying sunscreen while getting a natural tan). But your discussion makes me think I ought to try switching to self tanner instead when thinking about the health of my skin. Even if self tanning can be a little messy and a little bit of an adjustment. Thanks for all these great tips!
I recommend vitamin B and folate! I don’t think you need many vitamins but so many people are low in vitamin B, D, and iron with our diet now ❤ vitamin b/folate/iron controls how our skin heals
Last year I moved on to Uzbekistan, there we have uv-index 4 in February, we have a lot of sunny days. And I’m shocked how many people still use tanning beds!
Can we talk about some of these sunless tanners that don't turn you orange? Because as a glow in the dark porcelain skinned goddess, I have had no such luck and largely given up.
I think this is ur best video yet and I appreciate your kindness twordes aging and embracing it I love that your honest about it because as long as we live we get older and once u reach like the age of 40+ most people really start to age quite a bit and then in ur 50s pretty much everyone looks older so it’s like embracing it while we’re young can really help make us feel better throughout our lives. Id like a video about stress reduction tips from you hahaha it’s really the most important thing honestly I think that and moisturizing and sunscreen and sleeep of course :D
Thanks so much for the informative video. I always wear a baseball hat or hat that covers my ears whenever I'm out in yard, on walks and most of all when in the stands of my sons soccer games and I can really tell it has helped. I agree with many of the comments about drink a ton of water.
These are great! I also have one more that has made the biggest difference in my aging (I’m 50 and am regularly told I look like I’m in my 30s.). I feel like I almost froze in time by going on the keto diet many years ago. Eating low carb, low sugar, and less processed foods seems to help my facial collagen somehow. I heard Halle Berry once say the same thing in an interview, and it finally clicked that’s why I slowed down my aging so much also. So dump the toxic sugar! It’s a game changer!!
I want to eat less sugar but I have a sweet tooth from hell and just crave sweet foods all day every day. What do you eat to curb the sugar cravings? Do you eat fruit and honey?
@@bron8290 I eat low carb fruits like blackberries and raspberries, 80% dark chocolate--tastes like dirt at first, but you get used to it :) There are some low carb ice creams out there too. I use stevia instead of sugar in my coffee (honey has too many carbs.) I just substituted out a lot of things and never eat heavy carb things like pasta/pizza/rice/bread/chips. Try to stick to about 30 grams of carbs per day, and it seems to have worked for anti-aging in addition to weight loss and also gives me high energy for my workouts!
I’ve taught myself to look down (not while driving) to look down if it’s bright outside, always wear upf clothing and not to be to emotive. I’ve gotten Botox in the past and I just can’t afford it right now put it does kinda teach you not to emote your face.
Hyram! I need your help with my aging, 57 yr old nightshifter RN, tired Skin! I can even send you a pic! I also have rosacea, lines, wrinkles, sagging, etc. I need a solid routine because I’ve wasted $ on things I don’t care for.
Those sunscreens are not suited for the beach, hiking, and the summer because they are not sweat resistant. If you sit for 10 minutes on the beach the film will melt.
What do you think about the Roundlab birch juice sunscreen? I am in love with the texture and how it feels on the skin but I’d like to know your opinion on it!
I also can't sleep on my back due to sleep apnea/nightmares. And yes, I also snore a lot. But i've been using the treadmill a lot lately and i hope it would help reduce snoring. 😔💞
Please hear sunscreen y’all. I used to never wear sunscreen and would hike a lot, be outside, no hat, no NOTHING! And my face started getting brown spots and just a weird discoloration and fine lines by my cheeks. I had to get an IPL treatment at 25 to get rid of the damage.
Have you ever tried exuviance I haven’t seen you make a video on that brand and i just bought the exfoliating pads and I’m like ohhh I didn’t check with Hyram! 👀😂😂
how do you feel about the curology sunscreen? I've exclusively been using curology for the past 4 years, so when they came out with a sunscreen I was so excited! Just wanted to hear your thoughts on the formula :) thank you! they also came out with a new anti-aging cream next to the regular retinol cream they have. Could you do a short or a video on the differences between those two?
ive been using curology too, july 18th will be a year but around june 23rd this year, i noticed i damaged my skin barrier somehow.. i panicked and used a bunch of stuff and ruined it more! irritation, tightness, more redness then usual, my skin is dehydrated so it produces oils bad bc i have pores.. im USED to curology so idk what to do😂 june 23rd to this day its been damaged and they keep suggesting wear my rich moisturizer in my spots that are dry, i only do water rinses currently AM & PM so my face is sorta dry after but gets oily during the day all over. the moisturizer stings and hurts my face. ughhh i miss using my curology🫠😔 lol sorry for this rant
i only used the sunscreen from them 1 time awhile ago but i never wore it again 😂😂 i wanna start wearin it but rn my barrier is highly irritated . i noticed there was a sticker over the ingredients bottle. the stick says active ingredients are zinc oxide but under it cuz i peeled it off, it says zinc oxide and octisalate 🤔thought it was odd but maybe just me! did you use the sunscreen?
I have a sleep and glow pillow- not the return policy is this: you need the OG packaging as well as the packing list AND the info packet they send. I had everything but the info packet and they wouldn't take the return. Do I like the pillow? Sometimes. The first week was really nice for me. But it's a memory foam pillow and I feel like it mushes and my fave still squishes. Or it's too thick other nights. But some nights it's just right. I don't regret buying it, but it didn't fix all of my concerns.
Hey Hyram! I love your videos and you really helped me with my skincare journey! Could you do a review on Laneige? :) If you could that would be awesome I would love to see your review on it! Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️
Another good sunscreen is good molecules SPF 30, great sunscreen about 12-16 buck I believe. That or Pipette 50 spf ($16), super goop sheer mineral sunscreen is also good but a bit more expensive.
Just ran out of my Cerave spf so I’ll give the Scinic one a try. I ordered it via Amazon as they were selling it and it’s just so convenient to buy from there. Are you affiliated with Amazon? I know many people will do their purchases from one place as it’s easier than to manage multiple accounts. Thanks!
My eyes automatically squint when I smile / laugh, sunglasses won’t help me. I’m almost 30 and have crows feet , is Botox my only option at this point?
Do you have any advice to get rid of premature forehead fine lines as a 14 year old TEENAGER 😭 I know this video is literally about this but I have already got them so is there a way to like remove them?
I actually think he has a video about that. He had forehead wrinkles at the same age. I think you'd have to search for it in his videos but for sure, he's talked about it several times
Get a good hydrating routine, toner, followed by hylauronic acid whilst your skin is still damp, followed by a good occlusive moisturizer like Cerave If in the sun, wear a hydrating sunblock instead of the Cerave. At your age, it is most likely that your " wrinkles" are caused by dehydrated skin!
@@victoriafinney3043 I second this, moisturizing/hydrating your skin is one of the best ways to plump it up and help with the wrinkles. I found that it's made the biggest difference for me as well!
I love a good tan, I know it’s still damaging but if I get it without trying by just enjoying the outdoors with sunscreen and slowly over time I am cool with that. One of my biggest tips is SUNGLASSES save your vision from the sun please please please and added benefit of no squinting wrinkles. But also a tan earned from being in the sun with sunscreen is a much slower gradual natural tan your body is designed to protect you against. The whole “base burn or base tan” is skin cancer in a sentence… fake tanners have gotten so good spend the money on st tropez or isle of paradise do some experiments and find what works for you cuz it’s fda approved and tested over and over
Hyrammmmmmm I have a skincare question since you take care of all of us oily skinned babes tysm btw Is dickinsons witch hazel good for oily acne prone skins
No, most don't provide any meaningful level of protection on that front, tinted sunscreens are often recommended for that because the iron oxides in them is what offers additional protection against high energy visible light aka blue light, if you use a foundation over sunscreen it offers the same benefit (or even better according to some studies). Titanium dioxide also offers that protection but to achieve that you need to be using a very white cast heavy one, which most people are not going to want to do.
The glasses one tho my eyes are so sensitive in the winter the cold makes my eyes watery that the outer corner of my eyes get really dry, and in the summer I'm just squinting all the time and eyes get all watery, then sunscreen makes my eyes sting too. Is just a mess but like I can't find any glass that would like fit my face Im never satisfied with how my face looks with glasses.
hey hyram how r u im a huge fan of yours and hope youre doing well ive been following you for a long time now and like 5 months ago i had clear glass skin im 17 and am facing some serious hormonal acne its been really difficult for me to cope with it as i live in Pakistan and here noone really cares about your feelings and just say wateve they want to anyways i am tired of having acne ive been going to a dermatologist for it but its not helping i am really insecure about it and dont feel like going anywhere with it its just that i was alreAdy having a really hard time with life and shit but now its like getting harder for me ive done my research tried the medicines the doctor has given me i would really apprecuate if u tell me how to get rid of hormonal acne
Hi, is it too late to start using sunscreen at 19? I've always been exposing myself soo much to the sun and freckles-like spots started appearing, is it too late to take care of it???
Hi, I’ve watch all vid for sunscreen rec but I can’t choose what to get. I try the beauty of joseon but it irritate my skin felt stinging sensation , I don’t want to get the SCINIC Enjoy Super Mild cuz is also Korean or the Hero force shield cuz it’s only 30 spf or Pipette Mineral Sunscreen cuz I feel is more for kids and it doesn’t have benefit for my skin. I want a high spf, cheap and no white cast sunscreen, need advice. I’m a teenager
A bit of a contradiction you got there promising that sunscreen will prevent you from needing botox and then talking about a pillow to prevent dynamic wrinkles that come from mechanical factors and facial expressions, the very things botox treats. So no, if you have an expressive face - sunscreen won't save you from that.
Hyram is the best. Like it is awkward to navigate skincare where it’s individualistic and like yeah it’s white but like Hyram did so much with his brand and bridged third spaces and those super weird worms billionaires who control products and the internet. Yeah there’s isn’t enough pull to call out East Asians and their weird push. East Asians try but like does it just look like clearance shelf of forever21 til they get pregnant. Hyram is being Hyram like he can’t fix east Asia and their product much less the gulag.
