Joe Walsh, Clapton (Cream), Leo Kottke, Steve Howe and Eddie Van Halen. For me, this group of players seems to embody the spirit of music. Also Stephen Stills. What an incredible talent.

Guys no longer with us would include Kossoff, Moor, Healey, Hendrix, Young, Vaughan, Gallagher and Bernie Marsden, RIP. I'd be singing and Cozy Powell on Drums and Jon Lord on Keys. Neil Murray on bass, who is happy to be still alive, some Rock might be played.

Brian May (1st guitarist I got into, and seems like a lovely guy). Robert Cray (a personal favourite of mine, the guitarist that made me realise that there was more to guitar than rock guitar). Jeff beck (what can I say, I love this man's playing). John Jorgensen (wrote me an encouraging quite long reply after I messaged him on MySpace in the early days of social media, I've never forgotten that). Brownie McGhee (my favourite blues finger picker). Hundreds of honourable mentions!!!!!

Hendrix, John McLaughlin, Jerry Reed, Scotty Moore, Dicky Betts and for fun, insight and a huge bonus, Tommy Tedesco.

Hi John! Adding your younger self as no. 5 is a nice thought. Your advice to him is useful for every struggling guitarist. For me anyway. My list would include Gary Moore as well, but there the similarity ends. I would have loved to meet Jerry Garcia, and meet Jorma Kaukonen, Steve Hackett and Steve Winwood.

Thanks John, great to watch these lists! Here are some suggestions for future top 5s which you might already have done… or not! - 5 iconic opening riffs or sequences - 5 songs with modulations you never knew - 5 singing guitarists - 5 bands with no or few original members - 5 prog rock songs that were hits - 5 cover versions better than the original Keep up the good work; hope there’s an idea here for you! Jules 🎸

In no particular order, I would like to meet Brian May, Jimi Hendrix, Michael Hedges, George Harrison and SRV. I got to meet Pat Metheny at a meet-and-greet after a show several years ago, seemed like a good guy.

First I'd need a way to control my nerves, but then it'd probably be Hendrix, Jerry Garcia, Jeff Beck, Rory Gallagher, George Harrison and probably a whole bunch of others (Nancy Wilson of Heart, Hank Marvin, Jimmy Page, Steve Morse, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eddie Van Halen, etc etc) soooooo many!
@NewFalconerRecords

Nancy Wilson of Heart is a great call. That intro to 'Crazy About You' alone is some of the best guitar playing you will ever hear.

Nice vid John, Rory Gallagher would of been interesting to meet though I wouldn't have be able to keep up with his intake of beer!! I'm with you on Jeff Beck, Gary Moore Also like to meet Steve Vai just because of his incredible technique. Meeting 18yo me, I'd just started playing, I'm sure I would of said 'keep going' as I just gave up after a while and took it up again quite a few years later, If only I'd persevered.

1. 14 year old me. Stick with it! Starting again at 56 is slow, slow work, but enjoyable. 2. Gary Moore. 3. Randy Rhoads. 4. David Gilmour. 5. Duane Allman.

The first I want to mention is still alive and that's Richard Thompson. I did meet him when we booked him and Linda to play our folk club back in the very early 1970s, but he was quite taciturn then. The other four would be David Lindley (I'm still learning lap steel), Jimi Hendrix, Peter Green and Duane Allman.

Excellent and fun video. Suggestion for another 5 best video... the 5 best VERY SHORT guitar solos that helped make a song great! I don't mean fills, I mean legit solos, that put a song on the map, so to speak... just an idea...

Randy Rhoads it would be amazing to see what he would have done next. Brian may, a nice guy and hero since I bought queen 2 at age 10. Richie blackmore, love his style and everyone seems to think he's a dick but I have a feeling he has a very rye sense of humour. Paco de Lucia, put onto him by a Spanish friend when I was very young, blew me away. Robert Johnson, to find out if the rumours were true

OK here's my list. In no particular order, ,and not necessarily heroes or influences (although sort of). Chuck Berry, Wes Montgomery, Scotty Moore (not Gary, Sorry John!), George Harrison, and finally SRV. Make of it what you will. Also sadly all no longer with us, except in spirit.
