My friends and I just started a book club and our first meeting is tomorrow! I can't wait!!! We're doing something a little different. Instead of selecting a specific book, each month we're picking an author, or a genre, or a time period, and each member selects their own book to read and then talks about it. We've done this at casual gatherings in the past and it worked out so well, we decided to make it an actual thing! I'm going to share this video in an email with my friends right now. 😊 Btw, my favorite books are the classics, mostly Victorian classics, but since this month is Black History Month we decided to select something honoring black history. I read James Baldwin's "Go Tell it on the Mountain" and was blown away by his amazing writing and story telling!

I relate to Kim's desire to stay home and Penn's ADHD. Plus they are creative and funny.

I will say, I never watched this channel before however my wife and I are huge Amazing Race fans and "getting to know" Kim and Penn through that show and we freaking love them! They are so funny. Now we're definitely following their channel. Absolutely love the content, great job Kim and Penn!!!

I led a Great Books club one summer. We got through A Tale of Two Cities (“I know, guys, hang on through the 200 pages of character/plot development and I promise the last 100 pages will have you ugly crying”), but we were kind of stuck at Taming of the Shrew. Then I remembered that “10 Things I Hate About You” was playing down the street and was supposed to be based on that very play. We happily ditched our books, loaded up on popcorn, and settled in.

I totally relate to Nancy Nevershow (although I'd def try to show up in person - but I relate to the feelings - I knew the eye level was totally deliberate and would never go lower). And my sister is the Tammy TooBusy. BUT I've learned an EXTREMELY valuable lesson from that sister over the years - she gets a TON done including lots of time for real fun and active recreation outdoors with her family but so much of the time she always seems so hurried and chaotic and multi tasking. Her what I call constant "half-a&&ery" can be very frustrating. BUT it gets things done. It also helps her that she can strangely live in the present quite well and has what seems like NO sense of shame or embarrassment and often no sense of self awareness how she comes across to others. And oddly, I see that as a strength and is inspiring to witness more often than not. From watching her and spending time with her I've developed the mantra "half-a&&ed beats no-a&&ed every time, all the time". I have perfectionist tendencies that I'm always fighting cuz I'm aware of how much they can get in the way and be anti productive. So this half-a&& stuff is great for someone like me to keep in mind and practice. Cuz perfection is absolutely the "enemy of the good" as the saying goes. Can't get everything done? What CAN you do and just do that. Just doing SOMETHING will build momentum and: Momentum = Completion.

I miss my bookclub. Thanks to COVID, I haven't seen anyone since June of 2020. This was hilarious.

I've never been to a book club but I've been to a lot of study groups and recognize these folks. I'd add Suzanna Silence, the one who shows up every single time yet never says a word during discussions. Not. One. Word. Sometimes it was me. 🙂

I am in a card club, one of the ladies is also in a book club and they have a member that never reads the books, like ever. That cracks me up. One of the other members is demanding she be kicked out. Ah, book club drama.

You have fun, like-minded peeps who follow you and it might be a fun way to connect monthly. You could start with your book. Just an idea. Move over Oprah and Reese! Also want to say I relate to your family on so many levels. I'm Gen X, parent of 2 teens and a tween, Amazing Race fan, ADHD household, lover of 80s music, etc. Your videos really resonate and make me laugh just when I need to. I agree, Zoom book clubs are the answer! a) You can include people who live far away, b)you don’t have the hassle of making snacks suitable for paleo/vegan/gluten free (but not for medical reasons, it’s her way of dieting) people and c) you can mute the mike, turn of the cam and argue with someone that three paragraphs does not constitute an ‘essay’, and that their sibling’s breathing cannot possibly be distracting them to the point that they can’t work because they’re wearing headphones, and you can hear their music well enough THROUGH the headphones to tell what song is playing. I heard of someone who belonged to a movie club once, where they all watched the same movie and discussed it - maybe that’s the answer? Love your work, your comedy is always spot on!
