I bought my 08 with 220k from the original owner. Never saw anything but pavement and lexus for service its entire life. Now that it's original life as a child hauler is over, l had no hesitation giving it a second life as my country tourer/mild offroader.
Same. I bought my 06 gx July 2021 with 185k miles without any hesitation. It’s only been serviced at a local Lexus Dealership it’s entire life before I got it.All my friends were confused because I sold my 2016 Honda Accord(bought brand new at the time)with 200k miles. They were all like ,bro wtf why??? 😂 since then I’ve done quite a bit to make sure she can last hopefully as long as this puppy right here. I would be so proud if I can get her to 500k. I’m at 235k now after about 16 months
My 2014 GX460 4.6L V8 has 389,294 miles as of right now (just checked). I do about 40-45,000 miles a year as a regional manager for my company, and I bought that Lexus GX460 when I took the position. It has been absolutely fantastic. So far I'm still on the original transmission and engine. I've replaced starter once, alternator onc, replaced the power steering pump, CV joints have been replaced, sway bar was replaced, water pump twice, shocks and struts just were replaced for the third time in January, fuel pump was replaced, window motor was replaced on drivers side, pretty much everything in the front end has been replaced, transfer case was replaced at around 250k, had the radiator replaced due to a giant rock going through it, replaced the battery three times...and I think that is it. My area is all of Texas, Oklahoma, and parts of Louisiana so I drive everywhere and only on occasion fly. My company pays me $700 a month for vehicle costs which has pretty much covered everything plus they cover my fuel. I'm hoping to hit 500,000 miles by 2024-2025. We will see!
@@bamlinkindebio1293Regional Facilities Manager. I oversee four states for my company. Pretty much I drive anywhere in Texas and if needs be stay over night, and then fly to the other surrounding states I am responsible for. Most of the time though I plot my route so that I simply drive from one site to the next through multiple states so as to avoid flight, car rental, and hotel times. Been doing Facilities Management for close to 20 years now.
Thank you for sharing. I'm starting my new purchase GX470 overland build with 200k miles on it. This gives me confidence that I'm making the right choice.
@@adampetros5878 I just checked and it is 436,164. In the last year all I have done is change front/rear differential fluids, engine coolant, and had to take care of a leak in the transfer case and had that fluid changed as well. I am having planning on getting a brake job in a few months at the same time I am getting new tires. I am thinking of having the brake calipers replaced since they are still original just for safety reasons. Outside of that she's been rock solid.
We just cleared 270k on the ticker with the 2004 GX470. Not the daily driver since the kids are up in age so it will be a while before it gets to 500k.
Wow timing belt only twice? I just bought an 06 with 185k miles a few weeks ago and saw on Lexus service report history the timing belt was done around 90k and was thinking of doing it again around this time since they suggest doing it every 90-100k. Am I being too paranoid or should I just wait a little bit?
For anyone buying one of these for more serious off roading, it's common for people to swap the rear diff for an 8.2 Toyota. The factory ones in the GX have been known to break when pushed hard. I am seriously thinking about getting one of these and doing that swap after taking care of any maintenance items.
I just bought a 2004 gx from the original owner. Just hit 225k miles this week. Was owned by a rich veterinarian. I would never buy any other vehicle with that kind of mileage if it’s not a Toyota/Lexus product.
Prior to my 2006 Lexus GX470, I had a LX. Both were amazing. I will never buy anything but a Lexus SUV. Never had 1st problem. I do have one question. The lights turn to yellow like this one in video eventually. Are these expensive to replace or can they be professionally clean to be whiter?
Headlamp assembly resurfacing, sealer application (like a clear coat) helps. People often buy aftermarket replacement assm made by "Depo" specifically they usually get thr cooler looking assms matching the GX470 Sport Package assms.
@@crutchfieldautomotive7936 Yeah I was kind of surprised at that, but it shows that toyota\Lexus does use a good timing belt and water pump. I still won't push mine that far and risk the damage if it breaks.
With 500k? I would pull book values on it then look at condition. It’s amazing they run like this but it’s still hard to justify purchasing it with 500k when there are tons of them with 200 or less
@@crutchfieldautomotive7936 I was asking because I just watched a "Copart" auction, for whatever that's worth, and with 400,000 it sold for 5,200. Taxes and fees would bring you up to 6k!! Granted I ran a car fax and it was a 1 owner truck with extensive Lexus dealership service. But 400k for 6 grand. "Too Rich for my blood"
I just bought a 07 with 300k for 6000. I'm catching up the routine maintenance up and did valve cover gaskets, very clean inside of engine. I like it with used car prices it's hard to get anything under kbb or nada these days it seems.
@@crutchfieldautomotive7936 Arizona heat took away shine of the color, that is the only worry. I am searching for a good service center who can do some pent work
Bought my RX new in 2002 and just turned 240k. Never had a car this long and with this kind of mileage. The exterior and interior look almost as good as the day I bought it. Lexus is an incredible automobile. I hope to keep it for another 20 years as car payments can get pretty boring after a while. By the way, Lexus means; Luxury EXported to the US. Great video. Even though mine isn’t a GX, it’s a Lexus with superb quality and built to last. This video reinforces my hope to keep it for a long time.
@@crutchfieldautomotive7936 Does the 470 have the kind of timing belt that doesn't hurt anything if it breaks? forget the name, nonstatic something, lol
@@Nathan-wf1pr 03-04 aren't equipped with the vvt-i and the 05-09 do. the 05-09 go kaboom if you don't change out the timing belt. i have a 2005 4runner with the same motor and i spent $1600 to do that service. thats cheaper than a motor replacement.
I know everyone says get them down every 90,000 but I had one purchased after 160,000 with the timing belt never being done, I changed it, and the mechanic said that the one that was on there looked fine. Ha ha. True story, sometimes you get lucky lucky with these tanks.
I have 300,000 on my Siena and going strong. I just bought an Arizona GX470 2006 for $ 10500. 150,000 miles and its in great shape. I'm hoping to have it for years! I love everything except the gas mileage as the prices skyrocket up the last two Months! Yikes! 18 miles per gallon highway is not awful though.
Mines 09 with 200869 miles just got timing belt change I love it. I’m going to drive tell it tells me to let it go. Not going to happen baby. Stuck w me 4Life!!!!
Making me want to cry love my gx. I would say tho am I just throwing parts at her bcus I’ve replace damn near the whole suspension not to mention under the hood radiator etc
@@crutchfieldautomotive7936 right I was definitely shook two t belts at 500k thought they were only good for 100k lol 😂 making me want to live my life dangerously
Hey my friend; yesterday I went mechanic to get it done some brake job and timing belt after that my airsuspension stopped working and have have super bumpy ride. Before mechanic everything was working fine but mechanic said your passenger side bag has hole do you think it’s a reason for bumpy ride ? If I get airbags will it fix my issue. Because I’m kind of driving this gx everyday and have no other car atm. Will it cause other issue ? Thanks for answer
Hey there brother, i just purchased a 2005 GX 470 With 85k on the odometer for 3k … the previous owner states it just needs a new transmission…. Interior and exterior are 9/10 condition. Any advice going forward?
I would assume it’s just the actuator that actually damaged but if it’s your actual transfer case that’s fairly uncommon to get damaged unless it’s in use
Thumbs DOWN. It never ceases to amaze me how so many people make these videos and do such a poor job of conveying information about the vehicle. I watched the entire video, and not one time does he say the year of the vehicle. Not one time.
Well.. the GX470 was produced from 2003-2009 so you have a 7 year window to choose from. Since it matters that much to the year vs the genre it’s a 2004 in the video
Hi !you also mentioned Sequoia so the Sequoia is as good as the Lexus IS for durability? High long time no chat Mark southern Missouri Ozarks,im still interested in a good rig sometime if I can afford it to get me around the whole country and into the back bush
@@crutchfieldautomotive7936 Im having that issue, do you use a certain brand of aftermarket catalytic converters that you would recommend? I've heard some people having issues with the new aftermarket cats right after buying them. I currently just have the code for bank 2 cat would your recommend changing both banks cats due to age or just the bad one?
