My late husband was in Vietnam in 1967 when this song came out, and it meant so much to him, to think about being able to escape the war in a beautiful balloon.
I had never heard this song until my aunt was on her deathbed, a week ago. She was special needs. She loved music and my aunts played this song for her, while she was no longer able to open her eyes or speak, because it was one of her favorite songs when she was a kid. She ended up passing away that evening, and I can't forget about this song since then because of the lyrics. Up up and away my beautiful...❤. Rest in peace Tia Martha. We miss you so much already.
@@karlhelm875 It was used in a bread commercial. Nimble Bread it was called...,early 70s advert. I remember it played often on Pete Murray show and Jimmy Young show in early years of BBC Radio Two.
@@clarenceday4773 I agree that Marilyn is absolutely one of the most beautiful and talented singers of her time, but Florence LaRue is holds her own in both those departments as well.
This is a pure classic. Nonstop good music. Thank God I am old enough to have heard this music when it came out. Danced all over the house with my older sister, my brothers dancing too. Up Up and away!!!!
This was the first song I heard on radio when we all first landed at SFO in 1967 as new immigrants from the Philippines. I was 14 years old then. Such a wonderful beautiful song! It will always have a special place in my heart.
It was 1967 and dad's friend from work had just bought himself a new stereo system. He asked dad if he knew of anyone who might like to have his old component hi-fi and AM tuner, all tube-based. Dad brought it home and gave it to me. 13-year-old me was THRILLED to bits! It was right when this song came out, and it sounded fantastic!
I don't know what tube-based means, but that's a great re-gift 🤩That's great that your dad's friend asked around instead of selling it at a yard sale or something.
I have loved this song since I was about 8 years old. It was on a record my parents had of Space songs. The whole album was amazing. I love Aquarius as well. What a song. So positive. I'm 48 now. Still positive. Luv and Peace.
A song way before it's time by The Fifth Dimension ( a very real concept these days). I remember this as a little girl and how I could float away on the waves of music. Even to this day once in a while it plays in the background of my dreams. And it never fails to bring a heightened positive vibration to anyone who listens to this magical song.
one of the greatest groups that came out in the late sixties, there music was great, they had talent could sing, and had the looks, too bad groups like this are not around.
I was about 4 -5 years old when this was hitting the airwaves hard, and I remember always looking up to the sky if this song was playing loud from someones house as we played in the yard. As a child, I loved the 5th dimension!
lots of folks make great music these days. the music biz has one motive which is to push crap. they both exist. seek out the good stuff. 55 years is too long to wait for good music. 😬😆
When my dear wife, Cheryl who passed away two years ago, were dating in 1967, this was one of our favorite songs. And we loved everything by the 5th Dimension and talked with them before we saw them in concert at Lake Tahoe.
A Supreme Standout Timeless Anthem From An Era Of Unbelievable Music. Holds Different Memories For Each Of Us. Remember This Like It Was Only Yesterday. Cheers 🍻 👏 ✌️ 🥂 For This Majestic Memory. ❤❤❤.
I played this song every night at the roller rink my dad owned back in the late sixties. Fifth Dimension was one of groups of the day that made growing up in this time the best. Marilyn McCoo had one of the best voices of the time too along with Karen Carpenter.
In 1967 I was involved in a serious car accident..i was in hospital for several weeks.when I can out I had to recuperate at home for a couple of months..i listened to the radio a lot..this was a song that brings back memories of that summer
Wow - the Wrecking Crew killed on this. Hal's drumming and rolls at the fade. The string and horn arrangement from Paich with the amazing descending cello part on the second part of the verses. All the guitar parts; killer bass and keys. Imagine being in Sound Recorders in the middle of the room when they cut that. Another Jimmy Webb classic. Love to recut this using modern studio recording, strings and keeping as close to the original as possible. That'd be a blast. And exhilarating.
Mama Cass Elliot's Wrecking Crew? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA If only you know what lurked in Laurel Canyon.......................... this is a BAD copy of Sergio Mendez and Tom Jobim........and none of them killed people in the presence of JOHN HOLMES...........
@@californiaslastgasp6847 You're right. It is Tommy Tedesco, RIP. He was so prolific as a session guitarist that he only recalled playing on the track when someone reminded him!
Some songs are better off left untouched. Redoing this one would be sacrilege. Most of the Wrecking Crew are long gone. Other performers would only cheapen this masterpiece song.
I was 10, I rode with a neighbor, a local disc jockey, to a record store to pick up a pre-release single. I heard that song 5 times in a row that afternoon. It was thrilling then, and it still is. Long live 60s music!!!
Aways beautiful. That wonderful African American Group showed everyone just how much talent they possessed! Much of today's rap/hip hope is so much noise compared to how wonderful the 5th D was!!!!
I just like to hear this song start . It will never get old . Timeless clean beautiful Music 🎶 appreciated by all generations . Yes this is underrated for sure.
I used to play this on my little record player when I was a kid. My brother and I would play it on 78, instead of 45, and laugh to the chipmunk sounding voices singing! LOL childhood memories...
That's the beautiful Marilyn McCoo singing lead on this song. She will later go on to sing "You don't have to be a star baby...(to be in my show) with Billy Davis. Great songs. Priceless memories.
And remember folks this is before autotuning was available to most performers and/or they didn't need it. I love the softness with this beautiful message. Riding along in a balloon - sounds like fun.
My now deceased husband sang this to our baby daughter when she was tiny. We played it at the memorial. Our daughter couldn't attend, she had Covid. Beautiful and comforting.😘🥲
My first son was born June 01 of 1967. My Mother was 34 years old and she adored the Fifth Dimension and we shared a love of all their music. It was one of the few things we ever agreed on.
Omg I found YOU 😭😍😭😍😭 I swear these are happy tears ... For finally finding this song OMG 🤩🤩 this song has been living rent free in my head for 33 years in my head somehow when my ten-year-old self imprinted on it the only words I knew was up up up and away.... But then in my twenties I remember how many up up up and away and the word my beautiful balloon followed and I was like what now hear this 2023 Google has solved the mystery and led me here I'm so thankful I'm grateful to good nostalgic music that just makes you think of your childhood! Please Lord more days like this FOREVER
An unforgettable DECADE my friend. New “Yawka” 😉 ...born....bred and proud. Am a grandmother now. As I think back to those days...the nostalgia .....almost overwhelming. 😔
@@heru-deshet359 Yeah I can imagine a hellish nursing home in 80 years time when the mobile entertainer stops by: “Here you are ladies and gents! Who remembers this classic from 2018?”
