Between The Clash of Triton game and the Truth or Square game, I’m noticing a pattern of the video game adaptations of Spongebob specials being way more interesting than the specials themselves
Yeah you're better off playing the games than watching the episodes themselves. You know you've done very wrong if the video game version of the TV special is a lot more fun than watching it on TV.
Man, the Clash of Triton game was so awesome as a kid. Seeing my favorite cartoon characters turn into monsters of Greek mythology is awesome. Glad to see this nostalgic content again!

I keep forgetting that "Neptune's Spatula" was an actual episode, because it rarely airs (probably even less than the episode where Squidward traded everything for a piece of paper) and it's weird to see that it's a Season 1 episode.
It was one of those Episodes that used to air a lot when I was a kid. And because I watched a lot of Spongebob back then, a fair few Episodes have been jammed in my memory. And yeah, it's mindblowing to think that Episode came out all the way back in Season 1. It makes me feel kinda old. But my gosh, is it still such a fun Episode to watch
I swear this is devolving into a spongebob channel. It’s been 3 spongebob videos in a row. But honestly, I don’t mind it because I love Spongebob and I love phantom’s reviews :)
Oh my God! I had totally forgotten that I had a V-Smile when I was little, now I think about it, it was my first console, good times even if I did have trouble loading it.
Thank you for alerting me to Flashpoint, Strider. I was recently feeling quite sad because I used to play a bunch of games online that required Flash like Poptropica and a whole slew of PBS Kids games. I still log online and occasionally play them again and feel a major rush of nostalgia. I wouldn't be able to play them anymore without this app. Thank you *so* much. ❤
The Legends of Bikini Bottom game was kinda terrifying to me when I was a kid, I still remember the unsettling music of the menu and the intro of the levels today. It was a really bizarre game.
The voodoo un-do game in particular felt morbid. Patrick wears a mask and now he runs forever, and when you fail to take it off in the game you can see spongebob about to tear up, knowing that patrick is gone forever. That always terrified me as a kid and still does now.
13:29 I'm so glad I'm not the only one who remembers this hidden gem. One of my favorite things to come out of that awful Spongebob special was this flash game right here. Going through wave after wave of enemies and seeing all these crazy beast tranformations of Spongebob's friends was a sheer delight. And the music? For flash game loops, it sounds really good. Funnily enough, recently I was thinking of revisiting it someday; and then this shows up and the nostalgia kicks in.
When I heard you talk about the V Smile game, I started getting nostalgic. I still have photos of me with it. My parents really remember me playing it. There was even a photo of me playing it upside down. It was cool.
Clash of titan was one of my favorite website games ever. The bosses designs scarred me when I was young but I got over it at some point. It also got me into games like Castle Crashers (which I honestly think might be the inspiration but idk)
Takeshi's Castle music starting at about 2:20, this really takes me back! I think it's from the High Rollers game (a very common challenge where you must run across 7 rolling horizontal cylinders with gaps between them and avoid falling into the water below) but I could be wrong
That music actually originated in a movie called Battle in Outer Space from 1959 and the composer for the song was Akira Ifukube and was used in a lot of Godzilla movies
Wow, I'm actually impressed that someone recognized that song. Yeah, it is the same song used in High Rollers on that show. It's one of my favorite challenges on the show, and the song is very catchy. And I figured that it would've been fitting for the segment, so I just added it in there. It's a very nostalgic song for me. If you can, do yourself a favor, and go watch the show again, it's so darn fun
I actually remember playing Clash Of Triton when I was younger, I also remember it being pretty good for flash standards at least. And I think I also remember having that edutainment system when I was younger, I thought it was ok back then, but if I played it now I probably wouldn't like it.
I remember absolutely loving Clash of Triton online for some reason. Some of the power ups really were amazing to use and made ya feel real powerful wiping the screen or just having insta-kills. It was cool as all hell to see the cast into monsters and warped in ways I’ve never seen before too. Squidward being my favorite boss. I kinda wish I can play the game again. That thing was a trip.
Two weird SpongeBob flash games I remember playing on the website were this weird RPG game called SpongeBob: Invasion of the Lava King, and this other weird FrankenBob's quest game series. Looking back at these, I can't figure out how they were put on the Nickelodeon website. Especially FrankenBob's quest. How was I not freaked out by that. These games are rather weird, and I'd love to know the history behind them. Especially FrankenBob's quest. Who put that on a kids website.
I've been looking for Invasion of the Lava King for like 5 years now because I forgot the name. Reading it here reminded me of it and it's exactly the thing I've been searching for. Thanks for helping me find it!
@@savfox8491 Glad I could help. That game was a damn enigma of my memory for years. I'd remembered playing two versions, both inconsistent, one starting with a boss battle and another letting you explore. I'd distinctly remembered the music in it not being present anywhere else in Spongebob, despite having a very similar tone and style. (The melody MIGHT be in a spongebob claymation-styled special, though do not quote me on that). I did not remember the game fondly, but instead negatively, for some reason, so I was super excited when I finally found the game after so long. Hopefully others can have an easier time digging this name out of their memories as well!
Sad to hear V-Tech failed; it was my first gaming system when I was 6. I had the Spongebob game, and seeing it again brought a ton of good memories back I forgot I had.

I actually played some version of the "Spongbob: Yellow Avenger"-game. But my version looked and worked better that the video footage you used in your video (somehow). I also don't remember those long info-text-dumps or it being called "Yellow Avenger", so could there be a possibility that a portion of this was used in another game?
Spongebob Squarepants The Yellow Avenger was childhood game from my PSP and I already finish that game (including Man Ray, Shrimp and Dirty Bubble boss). There's a lot tasks to do on the game like collect some red little dirty red bubble, jellyfish and others, passing through some wall using some superpowers on the pad and you need to match some PSP buttons when showing in the screen and the other superpowers on the pad.
In attack of Triton Mr Krabs, Patrick, Sandy, and Squidward are turned into Greek monsters, with Mr Krabs as a manticore (I think), Patrick as a Minotaur, Sandy as a Cerberus (in Greek mythology Cerberus is the colossal 3 headed dog who guards hell keeping the living from entering and the dead from leaving), and Squidward as a kraken.
I actually had the V-Smile when I was a kid. I’m not sure if I had the Spongebob game, but I do remember having the Dora one. I’m not sure if I still have it laying around since I’m 18 now, and my house has gone through a ton of changes. But, I definitely appreciate you reminding me it existed, cuz my memory is awful.
OMG THE DORA GAME! I was a big dora fan when I was young so that game got played a lot, I had dora toys, a dora carpet, and dora books filled my bookshelf so the dora game was a must.
I love it when Phantom says "This one is the reason for this list!" As in "everything before this isnt important. Now Behold!" Just like with Puffin Rock. ;)
I used to play the "Spongebob Squarepants: Yellow Avenger" game on PSP. While I do enjoyed the game as a kid, I really do understand the problem why the game looks so uncanny and broken when I looked at the walkthrough videos, especially for the black background of Bikini Bottom and the weird blurry motion when the characters moved. The graphics doesn't age very well for today's standards.
@@poweroffriendship2.0 Wow! You played that game too! I already the finish that game (including Man Ray, Shrimp, and Dirty Bubble boss) when I was on Grade School. I'm glad I found you again hehe
I certainly agree with you on Yellow Avengers since with that game. I get confused where I need to go next and I keep defeating the same thing over and over.
Watching you review games is incredibly fun. If I had to make a suggestion then I would love to see you do a video on Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network games
"I'm so uncool even my friends are less cool if they're within a 1km radius of me" hahaha That's brilliant. Dude, you've actually got your own unique coolness about you.
A fantastic video again! 🤔 I never played Spongebob Surf and Skate Roadtrip, but a version for the DS was also made, that uses touch controls, unlike the Xbox 360 version. The Kinect itself is a fantastic idea, but several of the games developed for it weren’t that good unfortunately. Thankfully, there are several good games that use the Kinect add on, so I’m glad either way. I also never played The Yellow Avenger, and it would be good for it to have a remake for Xbox 360, as well as Happy Squared, the original version of the Truth or Square game, before Nickelodeon rushed Heavy Iron Studios to finish the game. Oh, not forgetting that studio game, and I can’t believe that it existed too!
If you were crazy about SpongeBob games... THE ONE SPONGEBOB GAME THAT STOOD OUT TO ME WAS "Spongebob Invasion of the Lava King" It was so underrated for the story.
8:20 so that’s what game I played as a kid😂 I always remembered having a spongebob game and that it was a educational one and that music and mini game literally awoke a hidden memory 😂 though I do remember it being a handheld version
I didn't forget Tooncast Studio! It's really nostalgic and all of my animations on there are lost Media because they discontinued it. Edit: I remember that I might have made a 2-3 part series where Plankton steals the formula. Then there might have been one where SpongeBob and Patrick were having a dance party, I wish I could still play it though. I threw out the disk because I can't even play it.
Wait I had the vtech spongebob game and loved all the vtech games I had as a young child. You just brought back so many strange memories, I never even processed that they were educational games at the time
I remember playing "A Day in the Life of Sponge"! I actually enjoyed it! I've always loved learning and when my parents gave me a game about Sponge Bob and learning, I fell in love with it! I have no idea what happened to it though... I think my parents sold it or something...
I used to play the pc version of clash of titan Also here’s 2.5 honorable mentions: Obstacle odyssey 1&2 (an obstacle course game with spongebob characters on pc) & Atlantis Squareoff (a strategy card game in pc) I played wildtanget games a lot when I was little.
The Clash of Triton flash game is what the “special” should have been. Also, Nick missed an opportunity to make a tv special based on The Lava King games.
6:30 I remember having this game when I was little. For some reason, we were scared of the minigame where you had to use SpongeBob's clock to match the word with its image, (It was this one 8:18), probably because we thought that something would jump out to scare us.
I never forgot half of these games. SpongeBob's Boating Bash, Clash of Triton, and A Day in the Life of a Sponge were the three games that I recall in my childhood. I played Clash of Triton on Nick.com so much back in my day before it disappeared and I couldn't find it. It was my absolute favorite. I loved the boss versions of the main characters especially. Boating Bash was a great Wii game for sure. I played with my family a lot, we had plenty of great laughs. I'm a fan of destruction, and this was definitely a good pick for me. (I think Ernest Borgnine actually did Mermaid Man in that game instead of some poor impersonation of him.) I vaguely remember the V-Smile game, but I was very young. Very very young. Sorry I can't say much about it, since I can barely remember it.
With the exception of Clash of Triton, this list doesn't seem to cover online games so my little addition probably wouldn't count but years ago, when I was like, 6 years old, I remember playing an online game where Spongebob and Patrick drive the Patty Wagon from the movie around Bikini Bottom. At the time I wasn't as skilled at games as I am now, so I never made it any further than the first level, but I remember it being fun.
My sister and I had a V.Smile. We thought it was fun. Seeing it and all those cartridges' gave me so much nostalgia to when we'd be in the playroom playing it on the weekends. I think I even remember playing the Spongebob one.
I played A Day In The Life Of A Sponge when I was a child. I loved it honestly. Also a Cinderella game and something like that. the "Let's try that again" brought back MEMORIES
You should go over the old games that used to be on nick.com! Before it was weird you could go to each show and click on it and there be games. I remember one where you had to use monsters so spongebob could escape monster island, and there was on where spongebob was sick and you had to feed him otherwise he threw up on the screen. The lighting and music always creeped me out. They also had his gucci battle ship spongebob game too
11:23 Hm, I don't think the visuals are *that* bad, but I played it on the DS. Games like these are visually pretty impressive for DS. I like that this platformer has a 3D environment unlike games such as New Super Mario Bros. DS.
I had a V Smile when I was younger. I was absolutely in love with that thing. Younger me didn’t even care if I failed the level I just loved playing it over and over.
I think that SpongeBob game would be more comparable to something like God of War! A lot of the SpongeBob flash/pc games were and still are fun to play like the three Invasion of the Lava King games, the two Obstacle Odyssey games, Nighty Nightmare, and SpongeBob’s Big Adventure games!
Regarding the black background in The Yellow Avenger, the backgrounds aren't supposed to be like that. As someone who has played them on an actual PSP and DS, the backgrounds show up well not like in this video where it seemed like the game was missing it's skybox. It's very likely most of the footage was taken from emulators as I can confirm the actual game's skybox does NOT look like that both on PSP and DS. Although as for the actual game itself? It's not a good game or not that fun tbh but yeah hope it clears some stuff regarding that.
6:30 You've just unlocked a memory during my childhood. V-Smile.. Those were great times back then when I would always play on that.. I was probably around 5 years old when I first started playing that console, along with A Day in the Life of a Sponge! (Dang I feel old-)
you think this is weird? theres a bunch of bizarre spongebob flash games. not only that, but as a kid i played this old pc game, "nighty nightmare", which was so weird that even as an adult i feel uncomfortable just trying to remember it. that game also seems to have been an inspiration for creature from the krusty krab, a game i, despite owning, never played because of how similiar it looked to be. basically nighty nightmare is the bizarre predecessor to creature from the krusty krab that still haunts me over a decade later
