Two things that impress me the most, you admitting you are learning as you go and point out your mistakes, which the world needs more of (get off my lawn, etc.) and that you included the boots you made! Love it.
@@Stridewise I did, keep good stuff like that coming. I can only imagine how difficult it can be to come up with new videos for boot guys while keeping the content accessible at the same time.
You don't see them on the internet much because they don't do affiliate marketing (pay a percentage of sales made by influencers) but I show them anyway because they're so cool and I'm so like, honorable and everything
My rarest boot (out of the 3 pairs I own) is a pair of Viberg Scout’s in Rowdy Daschund Horween leather, which have been resoled with a white wedge sole. Everything about them is 🔥
I’m curious to know if you’ve done research into the sourcing of the horse butt leather and if in any of your video content you’d be open to looking into or discussing the ethics around horse leather sourcing?
My man Nick and what great timing...! By the way I have a pair of the Grant Stone cap toe Kudu boots in dark green, beautiful boots, tough as nails...Love this and all your video's Nick....! Greg... P.S. Out of all my boots, my two new pair of Aldens are my favorites... Love them but I'm giving you credit for that!
I remember the Red Wing Merchant and i believe they pulled that one when the ‘pandemic’ occurred because of the leather shortage. I remember one week there were like fifty heritage styles and the next week there were six. Also it bears a striking similarity to Whites Semi-Dress but it was a nice one. Still bummed i never got a Beckman or a moc toe oxford from them. Too bad. Maybe later
When I visited RW in 2021 they were hinting at bringing back the Beckman but the pandemic plus cyberattack really kneecapped the company stridewise.com/red-wing-cyber-attack/
I have a pair of Whites drovers, pull on cowboy boots, rebuilt by role club. Basically my favorite boot maker upper with the guts of the greatest cobbler in the US.
You are very lucky. These are some amazing boots. I someday am going to have some high end boots. You have now got me hooked on iron boots. They will be my next pair when I’m done paying for my other pairs 😅.
I got a pair of those oak streets in black. I'd like to see the fit with those shoes. I'm looking for ideas on what to wear with them. These black ones have a slight shine to them that I really like.
Dude I friggin love the giant round toebox, check out how good they look with a same colored briefcase stridewise.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/wp-standard-briefcase-tan-leather.jpg
I have a pair of Red Wing Merchants. I must admit, of all the Red Wing and other boots I own, this is the only one that has is not comfortable. So, that may be another reason it is no longer made.
I wouldn’t call any of my collection “rare” but I do have a few hard to find boots. 1) Red Wing 9111: Round Toe, white Christy sole, Copper Rough and Tough. 2) Red Wing 2946 Round Toe Roughneck. Dirty Sand pebbled leather and Vibram lug sole. Very hard to find. 3) my vintage Dunham hiking boots. Purchased new almost 45 years ago. Rarely worn but the aged patina is fantastic Right now I’m looking for an affordable LTT monkey boot
Yes! I love my Red Wing 9111s. I 've had them for about 8 years and I bought them used. Who knows how old the really are. Most comfortable piece of footwear I've ever owned!
Monkey boot there's ofc Sagara (my last vid) and Unmarked have a cool one. I fantasize about Tricker's acorn monkey boot myself. Still, these are all $500. With Indonesian leather you could prob get a Sagara one for under 400
My Wolverine 1000 miles in Horween Arabica Lux are probably my most rare currently. I know quite a few people have them so it’s not a huge flex, but it seems like Wolverine has ran some unique leather 1000miles outside of their core CXL over the years and those rarely make a return from what I’ve seen. Also at the time RW was out of the black prairie blacksmith which is what I actually wanted, but it’s sort of cool having the Lux pair. Only Alden and maybe (Quoddy?) have made boots in that leather from what I’ve seen. Those Redwing Merchants are def a rarer boots for today…simple but unique. I’ve passed on a couple chances to buy almost new of the merchant and the Williston, not because I didn’t like them but because of the aftermarket price and already having a similar albeit not quite as cool a boot in the collection.
@@bobjohnson6321 yeah it’s got a nice soft temper and that grain on the creases is real consistent crackly type of break. Not like when CXL has tight grain, but not loose grain either. Nice and uniform. How has the tea core patina been on yours? I’m breaking mine in slowly.
@@aradoran unfortunately i have too many boots in rotation, so the progress will be slow. but i got them out today on the motorcycle and botanical gardens hike after calling them to mind here.
@@Stridewise yes, i met the maker and he let me choose all the components. a young fellow who has entered his own mocs in the patina thunderdome. my friend who was with me and not a boot guy was floored by how happily i forked over 325 bucks.
Hey man, curious if you'd consider doing some content around heritage wear hats. Stuff like Stormy Kromers. Maybe like their waxed cotton ones. It'd just be nice to see what sort of options there are out there as I don't really see anybody talk about stuff like that. Seems like a natural fit to your content.
Onderhoud is Dutch for maintenance. We, as in the Dutch, have a history with Indonesia but it still surprises me when I see these kinds of names pop up on foreign brands. It goes to show how much we can learn from each other. The Indonesian people that came over to our country teached us how to make their dishes, which I am forever grateful for since Dutch cuisine is quite bland.
Yeah I have a friend in Melbourne who is half Indonesian and her last name is Van Der Gaag. When I was in Indonesia it was striking the Dutch words scattered around the country. Like not surprising, just I've traveled a ton and hadn't been to a post-Dutch colont before. Indonesia is really unlike anywhere I've been and I've lived on every continent haha
I see the Trench Oxford is actually a derby. Not an oxford. I guess I don't have any rare boots yet. I haven't seen anybody else wearing the kinds of boots I have. (Except on RU-vid) But you can't exactly call Thursday boots rare. The closest thing I own to a rare boot would be my grant stone Kangaroo boots. Because those were a limited release.
Those roo boots aren't that limited they're always on offer! Or do you mean the Rust Edwards? You're right the trench oxford is not an oxford, i think it might actually be a blucher? Hard to blame them for saying 'oxford' when most people won't understand blucher or derby
I love those pink mocks. I own the merchant in ebony harness and it is one of my favorite boots. There is Redwing work oxford I have that is incredible design that no one ever talked about as well as Division road Viberg bastion in black horsehide. I'm really proud of those. Something with rare models is extremely fun though people don't or newer did care about them
Red Wing actually announced a limited run of pink moc toes last week! They're doing dusty rose ones as a Valentines Day thing, so I wondered if your ones gave them the idea
Great content as always, can you please do a video about shearling fur lined classic boots Im on the research for ones but there's no many information about them on youtube.
they do! they're pretty well known for them, I mention them in my last video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-j1RGzhIicJE.htmlsi=oSAfjH6YBlCbM71m
Oh thanks! That's Teddy Stratford, I get all my shirts from them. The NYTD Noir it's called. Got a discount code too, STRIDEWISE takes off 15% ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Kbb23stDDQk.html
Im not sure how rare it technically is. But my Nicks Brown Waxed Flesh Moctoes on the 55 last. Im not sure if this is standard or not. I asked for Nicks to surprise me and they did....
Um, I really don't know how to answer this one because most of my boots have been technically crap over the years and some of the newer, more expensive ones don't exactly fit quite right, I guess, or whatever, so I have some stuff that might be technically "rare" but nowhere near valuable...??? I guess the Truman ones have the most unique leather is about all I can say for less likely to be duplicated in mass production and hopefully won't smash my feet too badly if I sized wrong.
The White's boots are a limited run thing, but overall they still mostly look like black combat boots even if they have a different outsole and all that.
haha girls think it's funny and cool that I own more shoes than them. Either that or I only date girls who are OK with it. That it's my "job" gives me some forgiveness!
