I think you made a mistake in regard to speech: The forest trolls are not the only trolls that can speak. The Oog-Hai also spoke the Black Speech of Mordor.
Exactly: "Trolls. Troll has been used to translate the Sindarin Torog. In their beginning... these... had no more language than beasts. But Sauron had made use of them, teaching them what little they could learn.... Trolls therefore took such language as they could master from the Orcs; and in the Westlands the Stone-trolls spoke a debased form of the Common Speech.... " The Lord of the Rings, Appendix F, The Languages and Peoples of the Third Age: Of Other Races "But Orcs and Trolls spoke as they would, without love of words or things; and their language was actually more degraded and filthy than I have shown it. " The Lord of the Rings, Appendix F, The Languages and Peoples of the Third Age: Of Other Races "[Olog-hai] spoke little, and the only tongue that they knew was the Black Speech of Barad-dûr. " The Lord of the Rings, Appendix F, The Languages and Peoples of the Third Age: Of Other Races Also te varieties of Trolls are as follows: Stone-trolls, Cave-trolls, Hill-trolls, Mountain-trolls, Olog-hai and the last are mostly rumored, unclear whether they really exist, snow-trolls, it's unclear because it's only mentioned in this passage: "Helm grew fierce and gaunt from famine and grief; and the dread of him alone was worth many men in the defence of the Burg. He would go out himself, clad in white, and stalk like a snow-troll into the camps of his enemies, and slay many men with his hands."
The one that fought Aragorn in ROTK at the black gate was the most awesome and intimidating. Loved that beast. Same ones that stunned even Galdalf after the "no matter what comes through that gate you will stand your ground" speech.
I could see there being a race within stone like the ents within trees, intended to co exist with dwarves, like ents with elves, but melko turned them into something to menace the dwarves
Ents were only around 14 feet tall. Trolls were meant to be smaller than ents. So 30 - 50 feet is a very drastic height for a troll. Good idea to make a video on different species of trolls!
Hello i really like you video, good idea i allways keep wacting you all the time your channel is super channel i wish your the best for your job your dream come trou fiendnaly i would like to say thank you for you that sharing your videos have a good day for all for you.
Wait so what were those pale almost deformed creatures that destroyed the ram charriots in the Battle of The Five Armies? There was also the one Bard defeated by ramming a cart into it. Aren't those trolls aswell?
Is there a name for the kind of artwork which you see in images like 5:12? Kinda Spiderwick Chroniclely I love it, such a sense of eery fantastic wonder...
@@PamelaTaylor Tolkien was a cheeky bastard. He named his golems, trolls. And his troll, golem. Like the golem, the trolls were forged from the earth. Or stone. Or clay. I'm not the worlds leading expert on ancient Judaic folk lore, but I believe their stories about golems, while viewing them as useful, also saw them as an evil. Any time something without access to the "secrate fire" (anyone who is not eru iluvitar) tries to make life, it is an evil mockery. ...so yes they are constructs of the earth, forged by a demon. Did I over answer, or did I miss your point?
You're showing Graug from Shadow of Mordor game, but it's not a Troll. It's wild animal from Mordor. Btw in Hobbit, Bilbo and Dwarves met MOUNTAIN trolls, not forest trolls.
In shadow of mordor you can read that graugs and oologs were bred to create the oolog graug, a bigger, stronger graug. That's all the significance a graug has.
I wonder how would the giants from A song of Ice and Fire fit into this world. Will they be seen as equals, or seen as prey? Would they side with any part or search for solitude?
It depends, if Song Of I & F suddenly appeared in middle earth they would instantly be eradicated due to their "pacific" position. but if somehow they appeared in some forest protected by elves, they would instantly become the counter-attack for trolls and may be good friends with dwarves since they both like to eat meat, also they would have some troubles with ents when cutting some trees but if elves help them and give them a place in the forest, they would be the best "rangers" in the black forest, Lothlorien or any other large forest that needs to be protected. anyway, I think they would establish their colonies in the black forest since they are close to Lothlorien, Erebor and Thranduil's kingdom. they would hunt lots of fish in the Anduin and probably kill any troll or orc to protect their own children. the best part is that Giants would become the best "Guards" and most kingdoms would pay them with gold or food or anything to keep their walls safe :D or actually go kill some trolls or whatever, they would grow in number but no that much, and anyway they would ride mumakil :o
This lore is so much cooler and more realistic than all other fantasy. I actually believe this, which makes all the difference. It feels like it's real, like it really could be.....
Forest Trolls never existed in ME and are not canon, if Tolkien never wrote or spoke about them. They are an invention of video games only. Half-trolls certainly existed, but only in the southern-most lands of ME, such as Harad. They never ventured as far north as the Misty Mountains and never allied themselves with the orcs of that region - that is just more nonsense EA came up with for the games.
They're very different actually. The only thing trolls and giants have in common is their relatively big size when compared to humans, elves, dwarves or hobbits.
Question:What the ever loving fuck are OGRES??? There is so little information about them, and we only see them once in the battle of the five armies..SO WHAT ARE OGRES??
@@Someone-hs5yb according to the concept art and vfx books concerning the film, the trolls are indeed Olog-Hai, just a bit bigger than those in the lord of the rings films.
@Gasper Vidovic well, in the hobbit book, the orc army was primarily made up of goblins and wolves. The gundabad orcs and Trolls were added only in the film version. Olog-Hai trolls are mentioned in the tolkien books, but only in the third lord of the rings book, the return of the king.
is there a troll that separate from morgorth and Sauron then coexist with some man or elf clan that didn't consider them as threat but as a neighbour ?
This is a very annoying thing I keep reading. Anytime I read about different troll types, stone trolls are brought up. A stone troll is not a different type of troll.. it's essentially a dead troll... because it turned to stone we're going to call it a different type or species? Makes no sense
1: He said Olog-hai, not Uruk-hai. The Ologs were the big trolls that we see in ROTK. 2: Uruk-hai already existed for hundreds of years in Mordor before Saruman started making them himself.
No, he used the wrong title for nr. 8, half-trolls are only slightly bigger than regular humans and are more akin to be literal troll humans, while the Olog-Hai is very much a real troll, resulting from cross breeding and personal magical empowerment by Sauron.
Could you give some examples of stuff being contradictory? If you're talking about stuff that was in The Hobbit, then you have to keep in mind that this story is told from Bilbo's perspective, and he's not exactly a reliable narrator, so he may change or distort some details here and there.
Games and Films AREN'T sources of Canon!!! This is Canon troll species: 1.Stone trolls which are Turned into Stone by sunlight. 2.Mountain trolls the which are the highest and are used for wielding Siege Beasts. 3.Hill trolls are smaller mountain trolls they're used ussually in combat. 4.Ogres are mentioned in Hobbit. 5.Two headed trolls are mentioned in the Hobbit. 6.Cave trolls are dumbest and served as Gothmog lord of Balrogs as bodyguards. 7.Snow Trolls live in North areas like Forochel, they're feral and rarely used by forces of darkness. 8.Half trolls may be a cross of MEN of Harad and trolls or they could be terrible looking marauders of Harad people. 9.Olog-hai are an upgraded version of troll and Can be and Upgrade for EVERY species as Olog-hai of Black Gate are described to be both Olog-hai and Hill trolls so we Can have every troll species in Olog-hai version. 10.Troll pre-existing creature must have been because without them being found by Morgoth there will be no other species of Trolls as from this unknown species Morgoth tainted them into first trolls.
