I was thinking more that it represents the conception of something impossible. To call Super Humility "Super" is to puff it up. "Super" Humility literally *cannot exist.*
These are all super cool, I like how they showcase a lot of the darker sides of the Virtues. Charity, in excess, could cause ruin against one's wishes. Giving more than they can give or finding that their gifts have harmed someone. Patience that can't be kept, that will eventually break. Kindness that is half-hearted or even malicious, being kind in hopes of reward rather than being kind for kindness' sake. Humility's excess making it so you become invisible to others, your effort and work gone unnoticed or attributed to others. Chastity serving to build that which it prevents, leading to uncontrollable lust when one's barriers have been taken away. Diligence in excess leading to overexertion, forgetting one's limits or attempting to ignore them through substances. And Temperance, showing that one cannot be temperate forever or face being starved of their necessities or playing host to parasites that do not share in your ideals and will not hesitate to bleed you dry.
Nice write up! I think Kindness is the biggest stretch, though its counterpart boss, Envy, is also rather unrepresentative of its actual sin, so that makes sense.
@@joe____i think envy is representing the idea of always more, if you kill it more of it spawn because you will always envy more even if you get what you want
these mini bosses are actually super clever even with their drops, such as kindness dropping a golden heart because "their heart is made of gold", or deligence dropping a cafeine pill and chasing Isaac because it's overdoing things
i think humility is supposed to also represent isaac's self doubt on his own abilities, the skribbles it has for attacks look similar to the scribbles isaac makes on a drawing he didn't like or "a drawing that wasn't good enough"
I had no idea until watching the temperance fights that the mini leeches move fast in creep, not just when the room is flooded. You learn something new about this game every day
I love how not only are they inversions of their counterpart sins (Charity being a Shopkeeper that throws coins at you, Paitience being Wrath with time bombs, etc) but they show the "Virtue" going too far. Charity gives everything away, and it's gifts can literally blow up in it's face. Patience is limited, and destroys itself the more it is used. Kindness is a literal ray of sunshine, but it still burns. Humility is selfless, literally. It exists purely to help others and without them it fades away, unable to survive on it's own. Chastity is a bigger ticking timb bomb that Patience. It is not the opposite of lust, it is Lust imprisoned in a cage, inevitably breaking free in wild and reckless abandon. Diligence is self destructive, working itself to the bone through all the blood, sweat, and tears. Temperance is wasting away, filled with parasites as it deprives itself of anything and everything
@@unfreakedjaminimo it kinda depends? Without others a selfless person doesnt have to give everything away, but they may be destroyed by their compulsions and lack of validation from giving away. Being animals, our desire to be selfless still has chemical responses, the lack of which can still cause mental harm. So in this analogy, the brains are still needed because they are literally all Humility has. Sure, if they weren't there we couldn't defeat them, but their boss health would technically be zero, so they'd still just die.
Isaac's interpretation of Jesus is a skeletal ram demon that lives in a dimension of darkness, there's way more to cynically dissect with the virtues after everything Isaac's been through.
@@Techhunter_Talon Yeah, if you excess with Dilligence you end up overworking yourself If you excess with Temperance you fucking starve to death i guess
Now we need Charity Mode, where it plays similar to greed mode but each time buy something from the shop, the amount of cents you spent on that item will automatically take the same equivalent of money from your Steam account and donate it to a random charity.
@@Fechthegoodboia mummified corpse with a gun holds you at gunpoint to admit you pirated the game and donate the money to get the game to the developers
I also had an idea for charity mode Similar to greed mode, but you get one new item after each wave. It can't be higher than T2 unless tampered with (like with D6) and you have to take it or the next wave won't start (or make other use of it, like with Void)
I love this detail alot. The fact that, while sloth is sluggishly moving around the room while spitting out the occasional ipecac shots and summoning chargers, We have diligence who is actively chasing you down and summoning no other enemies, and spitting out bloody creep in a V pattern, like he's actually dedicated to killing the player.
Sloth: if I don't do it, someone else will, so might as well make it easier (by getting other to do their job for them) Diligence: better for the work to be done now than later, so might as well lighten the load (by making the area which they need to run through to hit isaac smaller)
Something I noticed: Each of these virtues may either represent false virtue or adhering to them so hard that they cause harm. Charity, despite seeming to give away treasure, does so in a harmful way while living in his own hoard of wealth. Patience isn't truly patient, only waiting a time before exploding. Kindness may seem kind, but his Super form implies it's a more sociopathic, manipulative kindness. Humility is a case of causing harm, being so humble you make yourself invisible, as if you're not even there. Chastity emerging as Lust implies someone who puts on the facade of chastity but simply lacks self control when pushed. Diligence is another case of causing harm, as while he's not like Bob, he seems to be in a lot of pain, possibly meaning forcing oneself to go through tasks with little regard to oneself to be "tough". Temperance is either or. It's appearance basically being just a dead Gluttony, and it's Super form seems to imply a devotion to eating, with the brain missing and the tongue hanging out, but it could also represent someone course correcting too far and harming themselves in an attempt to improve eating and self control habits. Which is why the arms are missing, so he can't eat anymore.
Just want to point out Gluttony also has leeches coming out of it, parasite creatures who suck away life essence. Sort of the opposite of eating I guess
I like how with both the sins and the virtues they can be good and bad. This mod shows issues of being overly virtous, such as patience eventually breaking or charity giving despite others wishes, and more. Also I just love super dilegence crying and looking stressed because thats a consequence of continuing something for too long. ITs a brilliant representation to show how even good things can be bad in excess, and something not shown but also is that sins can be good sometimes. Also the item drops are perfect, like super humility dropping empty vessel
Because it is a representation of virtues going too far, Chastity and Temperance represent witholding something for far too long, Patience represents eventually breaking and Diligence represents over-exertion. The sins in game do not need this exaggeration because they are already bad things.
Charity gives everything away. Patience eventually runs thin. Kindness has never been shown such. Humility has nothing to show for their life. Chastity locked themself away from everything. Diligence is falling apart trying to stay active. Temperance is starved, a husk.
I like how Humility being invisible is about them not having a sense of self preservation/ego or even about themselves. It's all about helping others and not yourself.
These are really interesting twists to the sins! To me it makes sense to keep these guys contained within the alt path because the combat some of them present would be troublesome if you were to encounter a stack of 2-4 of them in, say the chest or dark room. Also, kudos to the author for finding an appropriate way to incorporate the Awesome Face into the game THIS many years later, it fits right in.
The fact there is no Ultra Humility (tho that's probably cuz they weren't added in yet), because by that point, they might as well not exist. The Virtues really do feel like an organic part of Isaac, especially design wise, showing the consequences of taking those virtues to their absolute extreme, becoming more harmful than the sins they corespond to. Knowing the balance between these two, is the key to keep yourself sane and free.
I LOVE the game design of diligence chasing you down and using creep to corner you off, it’s so so cool. The theming are incredible as well for all of them
@@dieprosaldana4609 Maybe there could be another donation machine during greed mode, and you have to sacrifice some of your money to get the route. So it’s literally unlocked by being charitable to your own detriment.
I really like the fact that they could fit in the actual game Kindness felt a bit odd at first, but when you remember all the OG deadly sins, it actually makes sense. Maybe humility fits a bit less, but it's more about the sound and aspects of the lasers And chastity would probably need to have the keys based on your dmg (maybe it is already the case) But overall, a well done mod. The bosses are not overdesigned, simple enough but with their identities. Great job !
I personally thought that the Heavenly Virtues would have worked better as items for Isaac to collect and use against the monsters, but these mini-bosses serving as antithesises to the Seven Deadly Sins is freaking genius.
That’s because they’re INCREDIBLY exaggerated by his mom’s teachings to the point of an unhealthy life (if he didn’t… suffocate.) Isaac probably sees them as incredibly torturous to endure but knows will “have to” and some point to be “virtuous” or some crap like that.
Ultra Charity would be a bigger Charity (stuck in a giant chest this time). When defeated it will spawn a big chest which Isaac jumps into and ends the run. And I feel like if they made Ultra Humility, they should be based on the Antibirth devs. Since Humility is the counterpart of Pride, Ultra Pride is based on Edmund and Florian. So I think seeing them on the alt path would make sense, since they basically created it.
I saw some fan art several years ago of an alternative version of Mega Satan for the chest: God (it's design was primarily based on Godhead). If it was turned into a fanmade boss, it could definitely summon these guys!
Yeah cuz having your damage completely bottle capped by chastity being indestructible unless hit with keys seems like a great thing to deal with alongside several other bosses
What an amazing mod! The way they combined the virtues with the sins mechanics really blew me away! It feels like it fits so perfectly into the base game as well. Amazing job to the ones behind this!!!
Noticed there is a faint attack scream sound that Humility makes, even more barely audible in its super form (tho that could just be part of the song) Even the noise it makes is barely there.
I actually once had an idea for a mod about just this, not even close to being as good as this, cus this is probably one of the best isaac mods i have ever seen
i dont know if the showcase just got lucky or what, but i enjoy the irony that defeating patience rewards you with the item that allows you to drop bombs in quick succession, almost as if you became impatient when it comes to dropping your bombs
I like how charity looks like isaac’s rotting corpse in the chest. It’s a cool detail you probably didn’t notice a first glance, that is if it was intentional at least.
I love how much personality the characters show from appearance and their movement/attacks Charity: Willing to hive you everything, even if they are giving you stuff you don't exactly want. Patience: He never directly attacks you. He takes his time. He can wait. However, his patience will run out eventually, and once that happens, disaster strikes. Kindness: He's a ray of sunshine, but while the sun is beautiful, it can still burn you. Humility: So humble, he is nearly invisible. Has one of the harder attacks to dodge when compared to the other virtues, yet he barely takes credit. He only takes harm when you hurt others because he takes the fall for them. Chastity: Keeps everything pent up and locked away. Keeps it all pent up, but let's loose once even a sliver of freedom is found. Diligence: Dedicated, maybe a bit too dedicated. Takes full responsibility, not summoning any minions, and doing everything himself. Temperance: Restricts himself too much, holding everything back, with them taking extreme measures just to keep themselves in check.
I think all of them are perfect especially patience being a time bomb, taking wrath’s bomb motif and turning it into a fight you can win by not fighting, but I think diligence could be changed to be a tiny bit more interesting. Yes it’s a riff off sloth, but the whole joke with sloth is that he’s a reused character model pallet swapped, so it would be cool if instead diligence looked nothing like sloth and had a completely different design. Still I love all of them, and they all fit as very Isaac concepts
I love humility and super humility. They take being "selfless" to its final extreme: They have no self. Edit: maybe I'm just too drunk, but I cried when I saw diligence and super diligence. All they did was their best.
I always digged how the Antibirth path was full of bizarro version of existing enemies and bosses, and the God's Gambit gang has that philosophy in spades. Not only in terms of visual appearance (Diligence and Kindness in particular straying pretty far away from Isaac's artstyle and yet it makes them unique rather than jarring), but also with how fighting some of them isn't as straightforward as most other enemies (See Humility, Chastity and Patience to an extent). It's what I think the Tuff Twins did really well, and so it's nice to have some more weirdos like that. -Earthquack
Wish Kindness were one of those bosses that went away if you didn't fire at them long enough, leaving a golden heart still, but also maybe a present, or another item or trincket related to kindness. Like the Karma trincket, or PJs or even just a lunch item. Seems kind to me ig idk XP
