Backwards Compatible has solidified in my heart as, probably, 8BBB's best album yet. While I was sad Snake Eater didn't make an appearance at the Sony Hall concert, I'm so looking forward to more work from the best video game big band in existence. The arrangements are just genius. I actually used Sony Hall for one of my college music courses and the professor was blown away by the quality. The band, the arrangements when compared to the originals (especially the Tetris theme including Russian folk songs and composers). I like to think he became a fan that day
Big band jazz is more than just banger music; I feel like it's a feeling, an experience. This album really exemplifies this. The exciting beginning, with the intro and Chrono Trigger. All the vibes throughout the middle, with different styles and genres. And the ending is so good: I love how the mysterious, ominous feeling of Snake Eater then transitions into the joyous nature of Jump Up Super Star. I can't go without smiling during that one because of the infectious energy and euphoric vibes. It's a great way to start wrapping up. And then the SM World End Theme really provided closure, a satisfying ending. I don't know how all of you do all this, but whatever you're doing, it's working. I love it. Thanks for this awesome music, can't wait for more!
Watch the video for "Underground Theme" to see how accurate your statement about it being an experience is! A huge pattern that I notice with ALL of the songs where The 8-Bit Big Band collab with someone, it ALWAYS, and I mean A~L~W~A~Y~S looks like the artitst they are collabing with is having a TOTAL blast! For an excellent example of THIS, look no further than Snake Eater!
Dang, y'all. I am just blown away by the arrangements and musicianship. I used to play sax in college and played with a couple of the jazz bands...and this just does my heart good. Thank you!
love ya Hydrocity cover, should do more Sonic music originals slap but fans and remixers always seem to find an angle that slaps as hard if not harder in this case
Love the album, just the one thing i would change is the piano in the Chrono Trigger theme because it can feel real busy at times and not groove with the rest of the band imo, but hey that’s just me :0
Angel rain would be a dream. I even like some of the remixes like the accapella one, and Katamari on the swing. I would also really love a Switch port of We ❤ Katamari. I have to try and fix my memory card to play anything PS2, Or buy a new painfully small 8 megabyte card. Lol
Is there something wrong with the mixing in Jump Up, Superstar? Vocalist blends in with the band, and the band sounds way... messier... than the rest of the tracks. It sounds really muddy, idk.
