@Anonymous52550 I'll answer this question and your other one here... The 808 #16 is the best camera between these two by quite some margin. It is also the best tiny consumer HD camera as well. The main reason you would choose it over the Y3000 is because of the .h264 file format which results in no dropped frames (jerky video) - the Y3000 uses the dreaded mjpeg format.

@Belkamaniac Not if it would have to fit in the case. The chaps on the RC Forums are looking into connectors to extend the battery wires out beyond the case - have a look over there.

@jrhurt76 I suspect you may have formatted your cards as NTFS rather than FAT. Re-format the cards using the camera. Here are the Instructions on how to do this.... • Put the SD card in your camera, connect it up via the USB cable to your PC & turn it on so that it shows up as a removable disk. • Press and hold down the Shutter button. DO NOT RELEASE the button. • Disconnect the camera from the computer. • After a few seconds the camera will turn off. • Release the shutter button.

@Anonymous52550 You can only get this camera from eBay from the seller ELETOPONLINE365. The camera you were looking at wasn't HD, it recorded at 740x480.

It just looks like the old #11 but with video-out added. It still uses two different USB leads, one for charging and one for data - so I don't think it's got any of the new features of the #16 camera. I think I'll skip that one.

Yes you lose 3 seconds between each clip (approx), and you choose how long you want those clips to be. The gap might be less now with the newer firmware...but I didn't re-test it.

The 808 #16 is an awesome little camera, but for RC plane applications I further recommend adapting the 808 #16 camera to run off of your receiver's 5VDC. Then you can remove the battery all together making it the plane lighter and ensuring that the recording lasts the entire flight. I did it on my plane and it works great. I got the adapter cable on ebay by searching "808 #16 receiver"

@creatinedaniel You have to change the settings to get it to flash whilst recording...the video explains how to do this. Make sure your card is formatted as FAT or FAT32.

I'm not familiar with that one. I'd recommend looking at Chuck Lohr's 808 website for info on all the known 808s.

@Techmoan As an FPV pilot, I see it is clear that the # 11's lens is far wider than the #16.. you can clearly see how much closer everything seems on the #16 as well. This >also< will make the #11 videos look more detailed as there is more information for a given area..so the only way you will compare is to make sure they have the same FOV.

The #16 is a superb camera! Whilst I don't use it as a "dash cam", I do use it to video my walks and talks in the park (I'm a Ranger in a US national park", the quality is remarable. A bit of Velcro holds it nicely on the brim of my hat. I own a number of different "dash cams", but for size, image quality, battery life (about 40 minutes) and utter convenience, I keep just coming back to this little camera. Can't wait for the review on the new #26 (full 1080P) ! Great reviews!

It's a great little camera - but needs a different case, longer battery and water resistance before it can really be used as a helmet cam.

I don't think there is enough new about the #16 V2 to warrant another review from me...It looks like everything can be summed up in a few words, wider lens and AV out. I'll wait for them to bring out a proper water resistant camera in a decent case. In case anyone is gong to ask...No, they haven't said that they are doing this...I'm just hoping.

@gittarpikk I think it probably is - I really need to get them both lined up properly to be able to see how much wider. I think the chaps on the RC groups forums will probably have a more scientific measurement of this than I could do.

@beerman1957 I think its mostly people from the US. I suppose that James May must sound closer than the other brits they see on TV, Simon Cowell, Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay. Occasionally I get likened to Ringo Starr...that's even more bizarre to me.

But what software are you playing them back in. 1) Get the files off the SD card and onto your hard drive. 2) Try playing the files in a different program, perhaps, VLC as I suggested before.

Ask the ebayer that sells the camera (Eletoponline365) this question - they could probably do a quick courier delivery for you - I've had stuff from HK in 2 days. I've got to re-iterate that the only people who sell this camera are also the same people who make the camera and they only sell through their ebay store(s). Nowhere Else.

The #16 can be used for motion activation. A recent firmware update gives you this option. But keep in mind that tests have shown that even in motion detection mode the battery last about 80 minutes at most (since it is in a kind of standby mode) with a good, fully charged battery. If you plan on using it for HOURS in motion activation mode you'd need to attach an external battery.

@mrpetit2 i think that is very likely. I tried padding it out a bit to raise the lens up and push it against the front of the case...but just ended up defocussing it. It is possible that they modified the case to correct this after they made mine.

@ll1lI i like the vibration function in the three action camera I have in to test at the moment, it makes things a lot more obvious...especially when the sun bleaches out the lights. The LEDs in these cameras are very bright though....almost laser brightness.

If you purchase a wide angle lens on Ebay for the 808 #11, the light problem will be much better as wide angle lenses are constructed with the assumption that the sun will be in view. Just a heads up in case you're wondering about which one to purchase.

@fonsie41 Are you sure that the problem isn't with your PC. Any problems I've heard about with video 'recording' or playback have all actually been caused at the PC end. Download the K-lite codec pack for your computer and try some different playback software. Failing that, try playing the files from your camera on someone else's PC.

_I started using this little cam. again after 10 years. Still going great. ..That is a brilliant tutorial & I've now decided to purchase the mobius cam..ℳ∁... Tip: You can view recorded video clips from Keychain/Mobius Cam.on your phone by using an O.T.G.cable. It works for me_

Sounds more like your PC. Try playing the video in VLC Video LAN Client.

@redhawk000 I think this has been fixed since my review. See my review of the 1080p Jumbo cam. In that video you can see a new 808#16 compared against the Jumbo 720p that has the same FOV as the #11

Yes- check out the URC forum threads for info about a newer larger mah capacity battery. Beware though, the new battery is 1mm taller so may or may not fit the camera case depending on which version you have ( don't squeeze the lipo cell to make it fit or bad things will happen... ). The case with a flat bottom and top should be taller than the older, rounded case.

Definitely going to do that later, i really need a cheap cam to mount on my motorcycle. i was just astonished much effort you put into your videos and try to include as much information as possible. There should be one version of you for every type of hobby, may it be small cams, cars, tablets, motorcycles or even rc planes

I'm pretty sure on the #11 you can use the same USB cable for both data and charging, it is a standard MINI B port. It is advised you use one with the ferrite core for data, as that would reduce noise and data corruption. I don't think there's any effect of using one with a ferrite core for charging, either. Charging is simply done with 2 pins rather than all 4 and does so when connected to a PC anyway, so it doesn't matter what type of cord you have, just so long as the connectors work.

If the ribbon cable section (lens to PCB) was lengthened then this would be an awesome stealth/spy cam. Just been looking at some other reviews on youtube and amazed how many don't even include captures from the cam being reviewed. You are still quality.

Probable lens out of whack - open it up, connect it as a webcam and see if you can adjust the lens whilst watching the live video feed.

They fixed the FOV with a later firmware update. Check my video review of the 1080p jumbo where I test it against the improved 808#16.

@diiebane Out of those two, probably the #16 now. However I still prefer my, Jumbo to both, due to it's longer battery life and the one I own has an especially sharp picture. Focus has been very hit and miss in the past though, you could just as likely get a soft Jumbo and a pin sharp #16 and then I'd have to go for the #16.

@vacalorenzis I think the #16 should be the best one - the one I tested was a bit out of focus and with early firmware. I bought a new one, but haven't really tried it out properly yet. Look out though for a 1080p Jumbo camera…that has potential to change things up again. I've ordered one, but a review will take a few weeks. Chinese New Year will delay despatch from HK.

1:53 You can also find them on DealExtreme and Aliexpress. The later has some very good prices if you look around. I got my first keyring camera from them for 3$ including shipping!

My friend has a #3 camera with a battery about half the size of mine. It is also a LiPo battery, with 3.7V nominal voltage. (I'm guessing they all use the same type) With the battery minimally charged I measured about 3.5~3.7V but I assembled it all back, and everything is working fine.

@pultsted At one point I managed to get tiny sparks to fly out of it with a screwdriver...that was the point that I thought I'd killed it. So when I was manhandling it in the video I assumed that it was already knackered. However, rather surprisingly when I put it all back together, after charging it for a while it came back to life. So all I need to do now is sort out that focussing issue. Thanks for the concern though...maybe I should have a 'Do not try to copy any of the things...type message

I'd go for an 8GB....it's been a while since I used the #16 but I seem to remember it using about 5GB on one charge.

@HiLuckyB I can't compare the two as I've damaged my 16. The 16's latest firmware has apparently improved the low light performance now - check out the RCforums for some samples.

@BurninVinyl Just get a make that you trust from a place that wouldn't sell fakes. Any name that you have heard of...and some that you haven't will all work the same....unbranded cards should be avoided, as will fly-by-night Amazon Marketplace sellers. Get a Class 6 or a Class 10 card.

I agree, it just hacks me off to know that the internals are probably widely used in many of the more expensive "HD Cameras". Do you have a favorite 'budget' helmet camera at the moment?

I carry a #16 for self protection. The #16 configuration features are a huge leap over the #11. But my dream machine is the shape of an oversize USB memory stick, has a choice of lenses, easier configuration, slider switches, user configurable beeps and/or vibration, audio only mode, 5 fps mode etc., etc. The key chain cams are delicate and limited. The action cams are too big for full time carry. There should be a market for intermediate sizes with the right features.

Cool. Hard to find the exact batteries needed without knowing all the part numbers, but make sure the battery you go for has the charge circuit built in if possible...

You can power the camera from an external battery ( usb power pack type thing ), or just replace the internal one with a higher mah capacity battery. Minimal soldering required.

I'm not going to review any more 808 cams until they put them inside a proper housing. I also feel that there is little that's new for me to say about each minor iteration that I didn't already cover. I just don't find them, fun or interesting any more.

I'm surprised you didn't copy the files to your PC, I don't leave anything on a stick after I've taken it out of a camera...Unfortunately I think you've had it without spending a fortune on data recovery services.

I watched James May's program earlier tonight and to be honest I wouldn't feel all that flattered by the comparison if I were you you're far more intelligent.
