What would be your number 10 accessory for this list? 🤔 P.S I'm going to "try" and live stream the Geminids meteor shower tonight, if the clouds let me. So feel free to pop in just after midnight tonight (UTC) and I'll hopefully be showcasing some 'Shooting stars'! 🤞✨
When I was a kid, I always loved laying on the grass and looking at the Orion's Belt 3 stars and I always wondered why they are the way they are. I don't know when I forgot how much I loved to know more about astronomy, but now as an adult in my early 30s, my passion for it has been relit and out of all the RU-vidrs, I find Damon's energy and the way he articulates himself the most exciting. I feel less overwhelmed and actually understand the way he explains things as English is not my mother's tongue, so I really appreciate you Damon 💙
Mr. Scotting, You have no idea how much you've made me love astronomy. I've always been passionate, and you've just made that way stronger. I love all of your content and hands down i think you're the best astronomy content creator there is.
@@DamonScotting: Same here, mate. I've always been into astronomy, but watching your videos has inspired me to purchase my 1st telescope. Thanks alot for making these videos & opening up my mind to the wonders of the cosmos.
The star analyser definitely changed my outlook on astronomy, it's amazing to be able to do that kind of science at home. Great video, the only thing I'd add is a Bahtinov mask is it helps with focusing hugely
Ohh noooo! What an idiot! 🤦♂️ Would've probably been burning a hole through the atmosphere with a 5 megawatt laser! 😅 (For anyone else who reads this, it's actually a 5 milliwatt laser!)
I bought a televue oxygen iii filter, pretty expensive but very worth it, in my 12” dobsonian both the Eastern and Western veil nebulas go from invisible to pretty much obvious obvious with the filter. Same goes for other faint nebula like the owl nebula, and reveals a lot more in the Orion Nebula, and that’s from my bortle 6
That grating filter is the dogs doodahs. What a totally awesome piece of kit. Never knew that they were available for us amateurs, let alone at such a price point. Cheers for sharing. As ever, great vid mate.
I use a head lamp from Black Diamond with both red, green and white light. The green light is my favorite over red when out doing things in the dark like tying on fishing flies to a leader and other things.
@damonscotting hope you had a happy christmas , I wish you a astronomical New year ;) looking forwards to the upcomming star events and you New content. Have a good one 🌌✨️🎆
I'm still getting into astronomy by currently using binoculars, but despite that your videos are so entertaining to watch!! Thank you for making these videos!! They cheer me up :))!!
I am planing to buy a telescope becouse of you (skywatcher 90/900 EQ-2, i do not know if this is good but for my first telescope i think it is perfect)
Visual zoom is tricky, and won't look like what's shown in this video. We love you man! I know to make this a practical representation in a RU-vid video is extremely difficult. But as you magnify, the view gets more fuzzy and dimed, won't show like the colorful nebula here, and to show this accurately to viewers is so hard, so I appreciate the attempt! Camera view is so different then eyes, I think it's good to explain this so new comers don't expect more when buying a zoom eyepiece and get disappointed. You make some of the best astronomy videos on RU-vid , keep it up! We love your videos!
Yeah you're right, I really struggled trying to replicate it. The view of the Orion nebula is actually a sequence of 1/3s exposures so you are certainly right in saying it's not the most accurate representation. I'll try and amend this next time. Thank you! 😊
I wish someone makes a cool device like Sun Filter on a bigger scale so that we can clearly see other stars and maybe discover and see exoplanets easily.
That Celestron NexYZ has been on my list for a while now, but it costs almost 3 times as much in the Netherlands... Also, the Star Analyser is apparantly 152.633€...
I will my first telescope on christmas. Thats how i got to you, i can see that you studied to be a teacher. Your videos reflect that well. Great videos! 😊
Slight criticism in the zoom eyepieces bit when you showed Orion. Orion, while pretty, will never look like that to the human eye. Have to try not to give newbies a false expectation.
Yeah you're right. The footage I used was a sequence of 1/3s exposures. I hadn't taken any other footage that fit the billing. Will try and make it more suited next time. Cheers 🤟
@@DamonScotting Loved the video! I just do a lot of outreach with the public and the most common question/complaint I hear is why nebulas just look like a gray smudge instead of all pretty like they do online!
Accessory number 10, a hot water bottle strapped on, number 12, 2 bin bags, one to protect the scope another to put over street lamp, accessory number 13 (and this is really important) a house in the countryside in Spain!
Oh try a Green flash light, it's brighter and does not effect night vision... Maybe #10 would be a battery pack heated vest, where I am 0 Degrees these heated vest work nice and under $50.
I honestly this it's extremely stupid how much a simple tracker with 0 smart features to costs It gets even worse when you can get everything for astro with a smart telescopes for just 100$ more. I know it's not the same as manual setup and the learning curve, but if a smart scope comes out with an aperture similar to an entry refractor, it's sounds like worthy investment
totally. that seestar is amazing. i have a bit over 2k invested into my rig.. but it takes roughly similar photos to what that seestar can do. i do say roughly, but close enough. my breakdown is 300 zwo camera, 200 guide camera, 100 guidescope, 200 auto focuser, 800 into my used eq mount, 100 for the pier, 50 for the usb ethernet lengthener, and some other for other misc parts - ir lens, dew heater, etc). oh. the telescope itself is 120mm x 600 for 300 bucks. i can take longer exposures with the eq, but trying to get all this running together in unison is a pain in the ass. this is excluding polar alignment and or collimation. honestly i wish i had bought the seestar.
