Asia has an insatiable appetite for Australian abalone. Despite the demand, the development of an Australian industry has been hampered by the limited numbers of the wild edible sea snails and the high cost of setting up abalone farms. But a former ab' diver in Western Australia has worked to change this. His solution has been to breed the marine molluscs on land and then transfer them to grow in their natural environment at sea. It's a breathtakingly simple concept, but the Ocean Grown Abalone sea ranch is a world-first.
