Here we have an abandoned house sitting on its own by the road out from the Town of Warboys.
With a tip from a friend, I was told it had been empty for years and was being used by dodgy businesses to avoid paying taxes, so thousands of companies registered there and at one time had the odd squatters.
History
Records and maps show this was once the Carpenters Arms a Warboys Beer House. Its location at a prominent railway junction would have enticed many a traveler to visit. The Building itself may be from the 1850s, built from Warboy brick, and at that time it was possible a house could get to brew and sell beer or cider to be consumed in the front rooms of their homes. By the 1910s it was back as just a house.
The Explore. From the gate that led to an overgrown drive into the garden, we come to some very large dilapidated sheds/barns that contain mostly rubbish. The back garden is large and took some time to look around it all. Coming up to the back of the house and to the side is an extension that looks to be about to collapse, this was filled with old furniture, tools, and floorboards. Heading into the house was by the back door that was in half. Coming into the kitchen, there were still items in there like a cooker but it was trashed and flooded. Moving to the two front rooms, one was completely empty, and the other room had a creepy-looking mold growing on one wall that seemed alive with evil. Before going upstairs there was a back storage room that had a random exercise bike, maybe this is where people were tortured with exercise.
Creeping upstairs to explore more. At the top of the stairs are two more rooms. Looks like a possible attempt at renovation here or someone was growing something. Seemed like it wasn’t too long ago that someone was sitting in the random chair that was left on its own. The bathroom looks to be trashed but also as if it's just been used as there are some towels and shampoo bottles. In the hall, I could see the attic hatch and did plan to peek inside to see if anyone hiding in there but I completely forgot.
Naked Explore Rating.
Ease of Access 7 - The grounds are accessed by an old gate and the building's back door had been kicked in half.
History 4 - A Beer House for at least 50 years must have a few stories to tell but it’s hard to find much history about the place.
Danger/Safety 7 - Some of this house is in a good state but some of it is near to collapse. If not looked after this house won’t last long.
Harassment 5 - The possibility that I wasn’t alone and there was still a squatter in there was high.
Interesting 5 - There was lots of little bits about this place that was fascinating and I do wonder if there was a hidden cellar.
