Abandoned mine #2 on my Nevada trip with Graham (Mines of the West). After dealing with a flat tire that morning/the night before we hiked up to the next group of mines on the list. The features we found inside were in amazing condition given these workings were dug over 100 years ago! Stay tuned for the other explorations from this trip as well as a trip highlight video later this month.

Enjoyed the video. Cottonwood mine though? I thought I'd seen most in this area but can't find this one though.

The diagonal cuts you were in are not adits they are stopes where they cleaned out the ore, called stoped out. They follow veins or pockets of ore. The timbers to hold the rock apart are called stulls, sometimes supplemented by pillars of rock. Those were cut out of the ore and left to shore up the rock above. You can tell what's being mined by the ore left in the pillars. When the stope breaks the surface it's called an open stope. Many of the so-called tunnels you were crossing on ad hoc bridges were open stoping.

Been watching a lot of abandoned mine videos lately but I've never seen one where the wood is in that good of condition. really amazing!

Shit, somehow I missed it when you posted this video, Jake... Chuck and I came out to this one last year because we wanted to explore the upper adits here since, to our knowledge, no one had documented those before. I just started posting this one on my channel and started with the adit with that sketchy bridge going to it. If you don't mind, I'll link to your video when I post next week because between you, Graham, Chuck and me we have done a proper job of documenting all different sides of this mine. Every one of us covered something the others didn't. Teamwork!

Yes, there are some great sites in this area. We have done a handful of them, but there are several others on my list... That bridge adit looked really cool. You take great pictures and so I'm glad you took the time to shoot that one even though you were undoubtedly feeling time pressure from the impending darkness. Cool, I'll link to your video next week. You're the only one I know of, for example, who went to the top of the hill the main part of the mine runs under.

I haven't seen a NV mine in this good of shape in a long time.

One of the things that amazes me with this mine is the amount of logs, timbers and boards that we used inside and outside the mine had to be hauled there from a forested area of which I don't see any in the video!

Nice job exploring these workings. They look rich with a great deal of mineralization. I saw some azurite which is beautiful and makes for great tumbling and polish. When coppers true value is realized someone will come in and mine it again. Perhaps a big company depending upon the size of the zone. Stay safe.

No moisture whatsoever so that wood will survive till pressure gets to it. Would have loved some shaft exploring, those ladders looked strong.

I like the trick of covering up your tracks to the old Indian way like I do in my CJ7 I just grab a bush and tie behind my Jeep so it wipes out the tracks is a move.

Jake,this video was quite entertaining and informative! Thanks for sharing. Some of those "diagonal passages" were probably veins of ore that played out and gave no indication of continuing, so there was no reason to make them any wider for carts or workers. Thanks, again. I subscribed and gave a "thumb's up", hoping to see many more of your adventures.

Another great video, another thumbs up. I appreciate the voiceover explaining what we're seeing too, very well done. I understand the door at the portal, but why in the world is there a door in the middle of the mine?
@billseymour-jones3224

The other door would have been for ventilation control. What I don't understand is: why did someone drill a glory-hole in it? Hehehe.

Super-cool. Question about the vertical shaft with the rails: How did they hoist up heavy materials in this cart without the risk of it slamming back down to the ground? (Would there have been a pulley / counterweight / rope system much like an elevator?)

Nothing but blue skies and rocks. You drove a 2wd car?! This guy spent all his copper mine profits on woodwork for his mine. Need to be more smooth and considerate with the camera. Beautiful mine, and great video!

That blue rock looked like chrysocolla and the green may be turquoise. Looked like a lot of it, and some of it looked pure all the way through. Did you grab a few samples? It would be cool to see it after its been washed, cleaned and maybe had some of the garbage stone chiseled off of it. Was this a copper mine, or is copper ore just an incidental mineral that just happened to be there as they mined other ore?

You are right about the crisacola, It polishes real nice. I had a couple friends that lived in sirchlight and I have been in parts of the qurteate gold mine. One of the hule out shafts still two ore cars that was 10x6x6. And both were full of ore overburden.

You’d think that exploring abandoned minds like this wild be inherently very dangerous. But you made it in and out with no problems. Seems completely safe to me. Seriously tho: Was this mine made by a company? Or just a bunch of guys out in the desert?
@StevenPendleton
@StevenPendleton 3 года назад
I'm thinking somebody bought that mine and invested lots of money on the wooden structure of this mine. Those ore shoots all looked brand new and no ore or falling rock rock backed up in the shoots

Pretty good video. The mine was great and your dialog was good but not to be mean but the camera was so shaky, it made me dizzy. If you haven't watched a video from TVR, do so and you'll see what I mean. I don't know if it's his camera or his technique. Again I don't want to criticize, just want to help you make your videos better. Good luck.

Mining terminology is so confusing . The miners REMOVE ore and waste rock , so instead of an "Adit" , technically shouldn't it be called a "Subtract-it" . LOL .
