This is an excellent video on the history of Imber Sophie. I work on Salisbury Plain so am lucky to pass through Imber a lot and it always makes me think of what it would have been like to live there.
Absolute BS if the British Army weren't on SPTA it would be turned into New Builds very quickly . Educate yourself on who actually looks after it ,in terms of ground regeneration and keeping it tidy and clean.🙄😒
Was never abandoned. It was commandeered and the villagers were given virtually no time to clear their belongings with the promise it was a temporary measure. So much for the promises of the politicians.
To add context: this was in WWII when the military was training to fight Nazi Germany. The villagers were given 47 days advanced notice. Yes, it was awful for the villagers, but it was not done for absolutely no reason
If not abandoned, then lost. Lost to those whose village it was. They sacrificed their homes and all promises broken when the villagers were refused the opportunity to return.
How did you find out about driving to imber ? Ive subscribed to the churches newsletter but can't follow any of the links. Would love to drive there & see the village for myself after watching your video! How sad to be evicted from your village , I couldn't imagine what it must of felt like😪
