Totally agree, the only thing to save this now would be getting some of it back and seeing Patrick Troughton's expressions and acting which are always magnificent 😁

It's one my Mom thought highly of! At least that's what she said when I bought the novel off the school book club! I'm normally in agreement with you on most stories but I rather like the strangeness of all this, easily the most unusual of the bases under siege!

This is one of the stories that I rank high on the list of those that would benefit from rediscovery. The soundtrack is silent at times, meaning the story must have relied heavily on visuals. The recons are tough going, and the animators must have had a hell of a time filling in the blanks. That said, I still think it would have been better as a four-parter. There's not enough material for six, even though I really like the existing episode 2 and would like to see more.

This was one of my fav Target Novels as a Child. Always wished for it to be found - still out there somewhere. I enjoyed the Animation of the story but this is one of those stories you need to see the real footage to get the full tone and facial expressions. Maybe one day it will be found. Always preferred this story over The Web of Fear - I like the Yeti more in this story lol. Also an interesting note the Doctor at one point says to Victoria "Brave Heart Victoria" - as soon as I heard it I went that explains why the 5th Doctor used it for Tegan it's a throw back to a one off line from the Second Doctor - who never says it again.

Took me two weeks, but I've now watched all your marathon videos. And rather fitting that I catch up with this one.... A pity you're not a fan, but them's the breaks. But always enjoy the way you find some good in all of them. - Andy Frankham-Allen.

I remember as a child being fascinated by production stills and images from this story and I still think the concepts and especially the location are inspired but yes, it is as always too long and once you see footage of the yeti their threat potential drops off a mountain. The TARDIS crew are a sublime unit tho’. Absolutely love ‘em 😁

I have visited Snowdonia, in Wales, twice, partially due to this story, it is an amazing region to experience. (And, neighbor to Portmerion, for “the Prisoner” and 3-1 of 4th Doctor; once myself, and later with my Parents). The making of footage, personal camera by cast and crew, in color, 1967, all appear to enjoy being out on location. With the audio CD’ one can notice the lack of music. With only Episode 2, and two clips available for years to view, glad we have the animation now.

Yeah I found this one to be failry dull, maybe even more so than the ice warriors (which is also too long and slow). I do think theres a lot of great dialouge though, espeically the "bung a rock at it" sequence. One thing I did notice on the aniamtion blu ray is that the surviving episode 2 was brilliantly restored. It just looked really good and made me sad we don't have more of it. It's a good thing the GIs next appearance is asbolutley amazing because the first one was very so so.

I love this story but I agree with your points it one of those stories you need the real footage to get the atmosphere and real time facial expressions and reactions - which the Animation tries it's best but it has its limitations.

This is one of my favorite 2nd Doctor stories. The one remaining episode is probably one of my all-time favorite episodes. I wish the other ones were available. I think you would probably give it a higher rating if they were.

Obviously stories actually existing has a big impact, and being missing can definitely impact some stories more than others. I mean, the story at my number 1 spot (at this point on the marathon, that is) is The Massacre so I don't necessarily find the barriers to enjoying missing episodes that some might. However, I can absolutely see that this one might indeed rely almost solely on existing visually, more than a lot of stories. Hopefully one day the episodes come back so we can verify 😁

I totally agree with you. This story is drawn out boring (lack of incidental music doesn’t help) despite some good characters and I love the Yeti. This is the very first story I can remember watching Doctor Who mainly the scene where the Yeti reactivates inside the monastery in episode 4. I haven’t found a resurgence with Victoria. I still think she is whinny and probably not helped by some later Big Finish stories.

This is one I only watched for the first time a few weeks ago 🤐🤐 I enjoyed it 🤗 but the Web of Fear did use the Yeti much better 🤔🤔🤔😌😌😌 I think I'm not the most critical lol I'm the type of person who has watched the Trial of a Time Lord in one evening and had a great time lol Dibber 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I like this one fine though I don’t think it’s brilliant. Like it more than the ice warriors though. Look forward to your thoughts on that

Love this story. Better than Web of Fear in my opinion.

Personally I think this story is very good but it needs to exist to really show how good it is. For me it's all in the atmosphere, something the animation fails at spectacularly. Also I really don't like the unnecessary redesigns of the monks in the animation, why does Ralpachan have an eye patch? Why is there a guy with glasses? Why is Thonmi's hair in a pony tail? Why is Padmasambhava a mummy monster instead of an old man? None of this was in the original episodes. I think that we will never be able to experience this story as intended if it isn't found. It's no coincidence to me that episode 2 is the best one currently, when it's the only one that exists.

Andy! How great that you're along for the ride! (Hopefully still!) I appreciate your disappointment given your connection to this one but, at the risk of getting ahead of this marathon a bit, I genuinely do love The Web of Fear to bits. Even when most of it was still missing!

@@chris_stokes Hi! It's all good. I didn't write it, so I don't take it personally. ;-) But I do agree with your comment that the Intelligence is more interesting than the Yeti (although not under the stewardship of Moffat, but we'll get there).

@@replimatreviews I think the show at this time did need something extra than the Intelligence. After all, it was to many people "the monster show" so what better for a monster in a story set at that time in the Himalayas than the Yeti? And rather than having just mindless brutes acting on their nature it makes perfect sense to give them a "boss". And like I say in this video, regardless of how I think the Yeti turned out they most definitely caught on! Only 2 stories and they're in Radio Times anniversary photoshoots and Pertwee's example for his famous "sitting on the loo in Tooting Bec" line so what do I know? Interested to hear your thoughts on Moffat's handling of the Intelligence so please remember to pop back in about 3 years when I reach that point 😂

Another thing, about still being along for the ride. Every now and then I get Whoed out, and have been deliberately distancing myself from it recently. But watching your videos has made mme get a bit excited about it again, to the point that on my own channel me and Tim are going to start our own watch-a-long once a month. So, if it all goes wrong, I'm blaming you. ;-)
