Dude you are from the absence! How cool is this haha. I've never seen someone from a bigger band make a homemade guitar video. I saw you guys for the first time this past winter, and had never heard of you. As soon as you played that Testament cover, I was sold. You guys are fuckin metal!
First of, great playing Patrick Pintavalle, you nailed the solo perfect! I love playing this riff when you get the alternate picking timing right. Feels great. The Abscence is a very underrated band, the recently released a new single "The Silent Eye" so I think they are going to release a full album this year, pretty soon with that song included in it. I am looking forward to it, I think their "RIders of the plague" album with this song among others on it is their best album so far. Check out songs like Riders of the plague, Worlds Divides, Dead And Gone, The Murder and last but not least the song "Into the pit" has that Lamb Of God feel to the rythm and riffing. Awesome classic american melodic death which is heavily inspired by the Melodic Death from Sweden where I am from. At The Gates, old Arch enemy, Soilwork, old Inflames, Dark tranquility , The Haunted ( With Ola Englund :D ) and Scar Symmetry is just few of the very great Swedish Melodic Metal bands. The genre did in my opinion start early 90s in Gothenburg and Stockholm, two of the main capitals in Sweden. One classic album "Slaughter Of The Soul" by At The Gates has inspired thousands of melodeath bands after it came out. Slaughter of the soul still holds up excellent today as an extreme melodic death album, you would not think it is almost 30 years old if you never heard of the album or the band and listen to it for the first time today. It is that great and was really something special and new 1995 when it first came out. The only thing that makes it not 100 out of 100 in score is perhaps that the guitar solos is a bit simple, but the riffs and speed of the music is excellent. And the recording for its time was excellent as well, I was 10 years old when it released and was shocked & amazed about what I heard in my Sennheiser headphones. Another Swedish Melodic Metal band that is very underrated and that not many people in the metal scene know about outside of Sweden is the band "Carnal Forge" , try their album "Aren't you dead yet?" album for classic fast Swedish melodic death metal riffing. One of my favorite Swedish Melodeath bands is Scar Symmetry with lead guitarist Per Nilsson that you can check out here on RU-vid where he has his RU-vid-channel. Their album "Holographic Universe" is a great album to start your Scar Symmetry journey, however they are a bit more melodic and "radio friendly" / pop oriented than many of the other bands. They are much closer to Soilwork I guess, still very good music and Per Nilsson is a great guitarist, one of few metal guitarists that is sponsored by Strandberg guitars and the reason I am now looking to buy a Strandberg guitar, they have always been so damn expensive but they have a new guitar on its way out that is their first "cheaper" guitar where you get a lot of Strandberg guitar for your money. Per Nilsson is such a great guitarist that when Meshuggah's lead guitarist took a break from the band, the band called Per Nilsson and instantly asked him to join them. He was a great addition to Meshuggah and played really amazing live with them, I went to se them one time with Per Nilsson playing lead with Meshuggah live. They should have kept him when their original lead guitarist came back, and play with a guitar trio just like Iron Maiden did when Adrian Smith came back. So Fredrik Thordendal and Per Nilsson would have been taking turns playing lead guitar and Mårten Hagström would play Rythm guitar as always. Just like Adrian Smith and Dave Murray taking turns playing lead in Iron Maiden and Janick Gers plays rythm and some solos but basically Rythm guitar. That sounds so epic when a metal band plays live with three guitarists, makes for a very full and complete sound 👌 I wish you all the best and keep it metal 👹🤘
Nice didn't know you had these up here Pat. Sick harmonics at the end i would love to learn how to throw some of those into my solos and flow as good as you do. You guys are my fav. metal band keep rocking that shit hope to be doing the same myself Im will support you guys !! COME TO OREGON!
ok i think y'all have become my new favorite band... helping me get through some really hard times. keep doing what you're doing and come to Arkansas... i'd kill to see a show of y'all.
I know you guys are busy but it would be awesome to see you and Pete (who I will henceforth refer to as PJ) do a collaborative play-through here. You can choose the song I'm not picky haha.
@PatPintavalle You and peter are 2 of the best lesser known guitarists around dude, keep the sweet melodys and epic solos coming id love to see your band come to europe especially bloodstock fest.
i absolutely love the tapping pattern at 3:48... i'm stealing it... lmao. your band is freaking awesome, Pat. btw, i'd love to see you do a video of Echos. that's my all-time favorite song of y'all's. followed by The Bridge.

What tuning do you guys play in? I keep getting mixed answers B standard or drop A#/B flat Great playing btw saw you guys at TMT. It's a shame there was only like 75 people when u guys took the stage. Oh well more for me.
Awesome Video! The Absence is hands down one of my favorite bands! Any words on a new album? :) Also, I was hoping you could record a video of Vengeance and Victory, or The Bridge. Those along with Wartorn are my favorite songs from Enemy Unbound
damn dude i never realised how thin the strings are you use. ive seen peters guitars on the forum and they look a bit thicker then yours. Any chance of you chucking up a couple of accurate tabs or something on here? absence tabs are hard to find.
