So the elder berry increases crit chance, not crit damage? Just started the game like a week ago and I figured it was a crit damage modifier.

Correct; Elderberry increases Crit Chance. There is only 1 Relic in the game that increases Crit DMG, and it's a Legendary (Razor Claw).
