Hi Kitty, thank you so much for these series. They have been very useful. I have tried to buy the book critical appraisal for academic foundation program from kindle but it's not available. Could you offer any help in that regard?
Hi Kitty, this video and the series is extremely helpful! I was wondering what you think are the main types of research undertaken by clinical academics with medical schools? Is it mainly observational studies like lab based and cohort studies? Thank you!
Glad you liked the video :) I think you can pretty much do all the different types of research easily as a clinical academic aside from randomized trials, i.e. systematic reviews (probably the ‘easiest’ to start and definitely very popular projects amongst academics), lab-based or observational or cohort studies, case series etc. The projects requiring a bit more effort may be a coordinated collaborative project (often in an audit or survey format). I know of one AFP who has successfully got a grant to start an RCT during foundation years but this is a rare achievement; and the RCT will not be finished for many years.
Haha don't worry, no it's not the first time I saw the paper! It was meant to just give an idea of how you might structure your own critical appraisal. On the day you can only work with what you have!
