ACC commissioner Jim Phillips wrapped up the league's Spring meetings with comments on turmoil in his conference. He made it VERY clear that he is going to make it as hard as possible for Florida State and Clemson to leave the league.
On today's episode of Locked On College Football, Spencer McLaughlin is joined by Locked On recruiting insider Brian Smith. He sheds insight on the pursuit of 2025 5-star QB JuJu Lewis, who is a USC commit but might not be for long with Georgia, Alabama, Auburn and others in the mix. 9:45
'Locked On LSU' host Caroline Fenton also joins the show to discuss how the Tigers look after Spring football. Have they done enough in the transfer portal amidst missing on TCU transfer DL Damonic Williams? 19:50

If you have three segments, list them on the RU-vid page that we see first so we don’t think that everything is about the ACC and conference realignment in 2026. There is a ton more going on than talking about realignment. How about spending some time talking about how teams look going into this season. We are a few months away from the 2024 season and most folks are tired of talking about 2026. You kids like talking about this crap. Spencer, we know you are a Duck fan and feel pretty good about it. If the Ducks hadn’t initiated all this nonsense, we wouldn’t be talking about this 2026 stuff. How about a segment on how the Ducks and the Huskies really messed up college football moving forward. @davidbrown386
@davidbrown386 29 дней назад
Spencer I agree with you, the ACC should settle. Here are the problems for the ACC. 1:,One thing ALL businesses hate is UNCERTAINTY. ESPN is no different. If the ACC delays and this goes past 02/01:25, ESPN is not re-upping ( at least at a price comparable to what they are paying now). 2: Judge Cooper in Leon County and to a lesser extent Judge Bledsoe in Mecklenburg County are urging both sides to settle. If a Judge suggests something it is something to strongly consider. Instead the ACC is going into a “Bunker Mentality” which reminds me of the PAC “ Bunker Mentality.” We all know what happened.
@DLTJR1959
@DLTJR1959 29 дней назад
The PAC did not have a contract signed until 2036 like the ACC does. Different situation. Why would ESPN not re-up? They have Florida State and Clemson at a discount now? Phillips is doing what any commissioner in this situation would do. I understand. Don't necessarily agree with it but I understand why he's doing it.
@tarheel7406
@tarheel7406 29 дней назад
ESPN offered a deal to the then very unstable PAC after the USC/UCLA news. ESPN offered a deal to the then paranoid BIG12 when every member was still looking to move. Both of those had to be accepted, while ESPN need only elect for the ACC. If the ACC contracts get negated, I can see: a) B1G takes ND & MAMI b) SEC takes UNC, CLEMSON, DUKE & UVA c) FSU is forced into the BIG12 with a +1 d) The ACC remainders rebuild as a Tier 2 with the BIG12
@davidbrown386
@davidbrown386 29 дней назад
If you read what I said, you would note I emphasized the uncertainly involving the ACC and it’s future membership. If Florida State, Clemson and everyone else are guaranteed to be staying until 2036, that is one thing, but most people do not see that happening. But short of that, the payments to the ACC will be going down, regardless of it is ESPN or anyone else. If Phillips and the ACC choose to fight this, I think it is entirely possible FSU and Clemson have to play both 2025 & 2026 until the ESPN agreement ends. But that also means they will be paying < $100m to leave and that number might be < $50m and that would be a “Pyrrhic victory” for Phillips and the ACC
@tarheel7406
@tarheel7406 29 дней назад
@@davidbrown386 Do you ever learn? First read my earlier comment on some history of ESPN offering deals to unstable conferences. Second, remember that ESPN considers all P5 remainders to be fungible and with an ~$30M per value. Third, remember that the conference below got a Tier 2 deal: WVU (small state low prestige flag) CINCY (G5) UCF (G5) BYU (special/unique P5 remainder equivalent) HOUSTON (G5) IOWAST (low population state #2) KSTATE (low population state #2) OKSTATE (low population state #2, solid overall sports) KANSAS (vanilla flag, blue basketball) TCU (G5 equivalent) BAYLOR (G5 equivalent) TXTECH (G5 equivalent)

I doubt FSU and Clemson will stay no matter what. He made it clear that ACC is a basketball conference and could care less about football. They just want the money that football brings in. ESPN will only renegotiate to a lesser contract not more money. ESPN might be behind this to get FSU and Clemson to the SEC.
@tarheel7406
@tarheel7406 29 дней назад
a) To where is CLEMSON going if FSU is the only other member leaving? b) All ACC expansions from FSU to L'VILLE were football focused. c) The ACC's deal is already way below market and can tolerate some degree of depletion. d) The SEC sees CLEMSON/FSU as disposable.

ESPN is invested in the ACC and the ACCN, in which the conference has an equity interest in the profits. FOX or CBS is likely to replace ESPN if it doesn't renew, which is a loss of some ND games, high value alumni bases, still top men's basketball (though that will take a hit from losing UNC). ESPN would lose the "challenge" that's ACC based. FOX or CBS could return to an ACC vs. B1G or BIGEAST. ESPN would be stuck back with SEC/BIG12.
