We show you the newest generation of the ACME EZE-Tow Car Tow Dolly (as of summer 2017). The ACME EZE-Tow Car Tow Dolly is in our opinion the best car tow dolly on the market. Made in Kernersville, NC, they are the manufacturer of the original hydraulic disc brake tow dolly. You won't find a better heavy duty tow dolly. They strive on continuously improving their product, while other tow dolly companies produce their dolly's based on design from decades ago. They sell directly. No middle man (dealer) to buy from. No jumping through hoops to get a question answered (and by someone reliable at that). You can have it shipped directly to you or you can pick one up at their location in NC. They are friendly and customer service is top notch. Matter of fact, a couple years ago when we purchased our first tow dolly from them, I sent an email asking a question. It wasn't long before I had a response from the owner himself, Richard Brown.
Be sure to check out their website at www.cartowdolly.... There is a lot of information with videos, faq's, how to use, owners manual and more. Everything you need is right at your finger tips.
Be sure to tell them that RVing Illustrated sent you!

I have the older unit for about two years now. Cautions here are that straps needs to be checked regularly because they do get loosen up. In addition, the removable ramps are a bit of a pain to put on/off and must make sure they lined up. I tow a mini cooper 2 door convertible. Make sure you lower the hitch with whatever you are towing. I have a class A. Without knowing, while backing up the mini to put the car down, my coolant hoses and bottom front/bumper where scrapped and almost peeled off. The only way to prevent this from happening is to make sure to lower the hitch as much as possible when loading/unloading. Happy and safe towing!

I own one if these great tow dolly’s! It has been great. We now tow a Buick Encore Front Wheel Drive, With a Country Coach Affinity. It has a 455 hp Cat Engine! I have to remind myself that I am towing anything! Great Video!

Great comparison video. Thanks for posting. It helped me to choose the Acme Tow Dolly along with much other research. My Acme Tow Dolly arrived about a week ago. I was not aware of how wide it is (~102"). Where and How do you store yours at home base? I would like to store mine in my garage but with my Low ceilings & Hanging Storage, I would first need to attach some removable heavy duty casters for maneuverability. Also, the straps which accompanied the dolly are adjustable. Any tips on setting them up properly for the tires on my Ford Focus Hatchback with 215/50R17 tires? I've also noticed that some Acme dollies have the ratchet bracket lever down, and some are up. Any difference? I do know to install with the bolt to the outside. And did I see a 4 pin flat to 7 pin round adapter? And another question, do you use just the Dolly Lights or do you supplement with something additional when towing? Thanks again for the video, and for answering my questions. RV Newbie.

We keep ours in our garage. We have a 2 car garage, but we do not keep cars in it. Our garage ceilings are quite high (about 12-14'). We currently store it laying down, but have stored it standing straight up as well without issue. As for the straps, you will need to figure out which is best for your situation. The first thing you will need to do is set up the ratchets so they will be centered on your car tires. Measure the distance between the center of both front car tires. Divide that number in half. Then starting in the center of the dolly, go out that distance and place your ratchets there. The straps should be centered on your tires. As for the down/up on the ratchets, we have always done them in the down position. Not sure if it makes a difference or not, as I would consult with ACME. But when releasing the tension off of the straps, we find it simple and easy to get to push on them when they are underneath and not up above. Yes, we have a 4-7 adapter. You can get them at Walmart, auto stores, rv stores and online. We do not use any other external lights. If you are going to be towing at night, then it might be a good idea to get some. But that is going to require a pigtail adapter of some sort for the second light setup.

Thanks for the response. I will let keep you informed on how it goes. Maybe I will send a photo of my storage arrangement. Safe Travels!

Hello, I was reading the owner manual on-line, and it says do not perform a U-turn with this tow dolly. I’m wondering if that applies to turning around in a cul-d-sac as well. It says 90 degree turns are fine, an I would hope so. I do have two places I frequent that I need to Turn around in cul-d-sac. I’m just wondering if it’s the geometry of the tow dolly hitting the RV or since there is no pivot pin, it would put too much pressure on the car steering system. Have you ever had a problem that you had to stop and disconnect because of a sharp turn? Thanks, and nice video.

We haven’t had any issues. We do pay attention to turns, especially when they get sharp. Never had to unload for that type of reason.

Do these have self lubricating wheel bearings? (Like 'bearing-buddies'). I saw an extension on the end of the axle but you didn't mention this. I've found that small trailer tires seem to be hard on axle bearings due to the increased speed and the fact that many don't lube them ever. The self lube type help eliminate that issue. Just curious.

+A Day yes. They have a maintenance free bearing system except on the electric brake version

Im late commenting. But how often do you find yourself having to tighten the straps? Someone told me every 50 miles. Seems to often to me.
@TheWoodsOnline
@TheWoodsOnline 5 лет назад
Only when they are new. They will stretch out. But eventually they hold pretty well after using it for a while. I usually would check every time we stopped. I might have to tighten one up everyone and then. But I found that after they stopped stretching it was mainly with how well you loaded the car and did the straps on the first place.

It only makes sense to touch the straps every time you stop just to check things over. TAKE PICTURES/VIDEO of how you have it connected before leaving. Pic/Video the lights & turn signals AND each time you check things. The pics/video will save you if something goes wrong during your travels!!!

I have the 12 inch. tires and they will get so hot that you can't touch then. Have you ever had trouble with the bearings locking up?

Nope never had an issue when we had them.

Disappointed, I don't want to know about the difference between the new and old one, just the new one and how to use it

The video is 6 years old. I’m sure there have been newer versions out of it. And FWIW, nothing was ever mentioned as it being a “how to” video.

It does not have a turn table action. So must be 👎around turns.

It does great around turns. Go try one out before making judgement.
