You get a job, start working to pay for own classes. And if your parents don't take you seriously you just have to keep moving. Do it for you. They may not understand it. Just love them. As your career progresses they will start to see that it is real.

Wendy, I get what you’re saying, but I also hear that CDs, Producers, Directors, etc. don’t want people with “other” careers cause they want to know you’re available to take an audition at a moment’s notice. If you have to host a seminar or do things related to our non-acting hustle & can’t make an audition or meet & greet, that’s a liability.

I tried to do that. Took me years to get a job that didn't pay well, fell into a catatonic depression and forgot who I am. Sometimes things don't work out for actors and your passion does die. It's called "losing your will to live". Realistically, things don't always work out and you have to fight tooth and nail to get back up out of the dirt and live your life.

I used to work as a security contractor, met 2 producers and a few A list actors in that time. One of the producers tried to convince me to become an actor. The other said I looked like a young mark wahlberg. Clearly I know how to get and use contacts being a prior security contractor. It would be great if a couple of those guys look at me and say "he looks familiar... Oh crap he was my body guard one time" XD I want to act for ME, not money or fame. If I like the role I will take it. I will embody it. ?My brands?: War movies, Villain roles, Trauma and depression roles, Horror roles (probably as an antagonist--- one that the audience can get behind). Dark comedy roles. What I REALLY should do is WRITE movies people ACTUALLY want to watch. So much CRAP comes out of Hollywood now.

Btw, I like how you talk about "brand" and "building your brand" I'm still relatively in my infancy, but branding is close to my heart. "Jobber" is not my real last name, it is a "brand" based on a character I created from my passionate study of the Professional Wrestling business. I have been thinking a lot lately on working on a new brand specifically aimed at the acting business, and that's been on my mind lately. You have been a big help in getting my creative juices flowing! Thanks for doing what you do!

Thank you so much for all these videos. I've watched almost all of them. As a mom who is trying to learn the business for her children who are interested in acting and modeling it has been so helpful. There are so many scams out there when it involves kids. We have had a few agencies interested in us only to find out they are not legit. Does your book have some lists for commercial agents in the NY area? Thank you for any advice.

Love your insight. The process is very similar to becoming a firefighter. Understanding the business & how it works while building your brand, type, image & resume. Building relationships and studying the craft becoming not only a better artist but being better professionally. All this can be done at home including taking classes and submitting to roles online now days gaining experience. You can do so much yourself before even talking to an agent or manager. It’s gotta be something you love and constantly be in execution mode with no expectations and just have fun. You can also get a camera and shoot your own film & enjoy yourself. At the end of the day become a better selfless human being by paying it forward to other artist that don’t know how and build a circle of a positive community and keep each other working. Fall in love with the process.

I think many of us are guilty of believing all the old tv shows that depict how things used to work. That's what makes your videos so captivating - they present the real truth about how things work today! We know the world has changed in so many other areas, why do some people assume the acting world has not changed as well?

I have about 15 theatre credits and 2 short film credits along with a tv paid gig (that they cut) on my resume. I'm saving up this year (as a gap year) and will be moving to LA a year from now. Been watching your clips, but haven't watched all. Was wondering should I get an agent while i'm in school (was accepted in Stella Adler) or wait until I'm done with the 2-year conservatory? Thanks!

I am resurrecting my career after a 15+ year hiatus working as a professor (ironically I teach branding).. You video inspires me - I love the challenge. So much has changed but I really like that your fate is much more in your own hands today and there are so many opportunities in the digital age. I realize I am starting at 0 but my question is on my IMBD pro, my Actors Access Backstage profiles should I add my credits from the 90s?

Solid advice! This still remains the case and continues to be so. No when I submit with LA casting or Actors Access I see them ask for my social media links. Casting frontier even added the social media feature built in.

Hey Wendy, love your content. Thank you, for what you do. I'm a returning actor, meaning I was an actor when I was younger (age 5 through 13). Now I'm 29, and thinking of getting back into the acting business. I've been watching your videos, for a couple days now and have no intention of stopping. My question is, I used to be part of the Actor's Guild when I was younger. When I contacted them last, they told me I need to pay a pretty large sum of money so that I could start working as an actor again. Is that accurate? Or can I do what you've always said, which is get out there build my brand, and start looking for work on my own? Hi Mrs Wright I hire extra agents to book me for movies that need extra background talent.When we talk I was telling you I going Central Casting this month to get Register on the 20.and I getting my resume and I call my photo guy to set up appt for my headshot and commercial and other stuff.I am getting my 3 outfits together now and the thing she want me to have when I return.so everything is coming together. Thank god for that, AND I am still booking party like crazy and wedding also and that my moneys I will put up for my acting career.I just want to say thank you so much on the conversation we had you inspiring me more.But I still need your book. I want to be a doctor? What about those rock stars,rappers,crossing over to become an actor overnight. They don't have any skills in acting, of course they have followers,fans,that's why they get cast. Any of them wouldn't be able to become a doctor overnight it would require definitely some skills . Would you pick up a child and book him as doctor?..sure not. What about nepotism in hollywood? Those actors/actress who really make it in Hollywood already did have parents ,cousins, working in a business.It 's all bullshit. Acting is all about who you know(connection) in a business. It ain't skill in itself. I would say get connection first and the whatever you want to call it (skills maybe)will follow. one last thing don't forget that in acting we have what we call "Takes" if one scene is not good you can redo many time depending on the so called actors skills.

Dont know how old you are but if money's a concern. Take drama in school. Audition on your own at a local theatre if its accessible.

I had to throw events out of pocket that drew crowds of over 4000 people for 15 years before anyone even wanted me to play sax with them much less put me online or participate in production at all because I’m not college trained……. At that point I didn’t need them and they just cost me money and messed with my reputation. Trust if you are any good, the competition will not be that fierce trust me 95% of the people in the industry are amateurs and our space filler. I mean that with all due respect but it’s true. Usually the pros stay together and you’ll know when you’re working with them if you’re any good. Take classes, good classes with known teachers even if you have to wait in line, then don’t waste their time and take beginners classes in the mean time.

Extra Work does not matter. It's only fun to do for a little while. It does NOT count as acting.

People are losing etiquette and acting skills because they do not sit down one-on-one with people hardly anymore and talk and have conversations. That's how you train your mind and body to act. If you just said with a cell phone in your hand or computer in front of you or a TV in front of you and don't move your body around and don't talk to your phone or the TV or the computer you're not going to go very far on your acting skills.

If I was a Dancer only in a Short Film would I still put Supporting? Or does that not go on my acting resume. I am professionally working as a Dancer and an Actor as well as supporting myself from my RU-vid series and I don't know whether to have entirely different separate resumes for Dance and Film or if I can amalgamate them. Any advice?

The Hollywood Talent Manager Wendy Alane Wright Yes, I am an actor. I'm up in Northern CA. I went to school and lived in L.A. before, but left to gain more experience and perspective. I've built up my resume a bit and I'm thinking I want to spend some time in L.A. I've got headshots, a resume and a reel. I've been researching and educating myself on how best to dive in, and I've really enjoyed your videos. They're informative and interesting. I can tell you like actors, I think it's great that you take the time to give out solid advice, thank you!

this was your most boring video yet. i mean that in the most loving way! i already knew all this... so id say its a sign im moving in the right direction - through your videos and other sources i figured all this out already. im just putting in the time, work and constantly striving to improve stuff now. anyway, thanks for all your insight and sharing!
