An idea that I learned to eliminate low budget clients is to make the CTA a contact form as opposed to leaving your email address, with one of the required responses being the budget! If the answers are in a drop down list, it literally will force the brand to choose their range too. But if you still want your prices to be unknown, you can make the response a plain box to type in. For this, all you’d have to do to save time is create an “out of budget client” email template to inform them of your costs.

Excellent video! You say your business really exploded by the 3rd portfolio. Your 2nd portfolio may have worked better but you had an immediate typo - "Hi there, I'm Colleen Welsch. I'm AN freelance beauty copywriter..." Otherwise your portfolio looked great so it may have been that that prevented some from hiring you. Thanks for the tips, I could use them and I will continue watching your videos.

Hi Colleen. Thanks for all your content, I find it very useful. I have a couple of questions, if you can answer them, I'd be more than delighted. 1) If you really suck at design, where would you recommend finding an affordable portfolio designer? 2) I have written about 10-15 SEO articles from various niches (vehicles, electronic money, electric baths, universities, agriculture, and so on). If I end up choosing a completely different niche, would it be worth it to show the articles in my portfolio, I mean, finding creative ways to adjust them in one category? Or would you advise writing the 3 samples you previously recommended for the new niche as if I were a 100% beginner? I hope you can answer, take care, and thanks again for your kind support.

1) Maybe Fiverr? I've never hired a designer. 2) You can hide your additional samples at the bottom of your portfolio with copy like "Before I started writing in the X niche, I wrote about vehicles, electronic money, electric baths, universities, and more. You can view that content here".

How do you recommend sharing portfolio samples and companies you've worked for when everything has been ghostwriting? I have worked solely on Fiverr as of yet. I have many samples for a portfolio and know some of the companies I've worked for, but is it okay to list these when my name is not on their site/blog anywhere and everything has been anonymous? I just began your freelance writer's course so maybe this will get answered, but I was hoping you'd have some advice:) TY! Love your content and how real it is!

You can share it in your portfolio as long as you get permission from the client. This is something you can define in your contract go forward.

Hi Colleen! I decided to update my portfolio to land more clients. Is it necessary to register for an LLC, or can I just go ahead and make a brand name for myself (Like what you did with Glossy Type?) I’m genuinely curious if a lone freelancer can market themselves as an agency?

Why market yourself as an agency if you're not one? You don't need an LLC when you start but you should think about creating one for legal protection
