I went to college with a person who has the type of Down syndrome Nick was describing at the end of the episode. Or at least I think so. She had the physical and speech aspects but on Facebook would wax poetic and clearly was smarter than me. She became a high school teacher in recent years, which is obviously amazing.

Nick's point about the octopus is actually spot on. Watching octopus camouflage made me look into them, and my first thought was that they are the closest thing to an alien life-form. They are a good example of a creature that doesn't fit in with evolution, but they're not the only one. There's a river mussel that imitates a type of fish eaten by another fish so that it can spray it's eggs onto the predator fish. So an invertebrate with no eyes or physical perception mimics another more developed creature as a pivotal piece of it's reproductive cycle? I would love to hear an evolutionary biologists' explanation of how this occurs, or a valid case of speciation we can observe in general. I'm gay, and how is that evolution advantageous to reproduction? Maybe the next stage of human evolution is just AIDS.
