I got off methadone, fent, crack, amphetamines, benzos, lyrica, social media, soda, and a few other things. The thing is, I still have like 3-4 addictions (vaping comes to mind). This is def an addiction economy. It's disgusting.

RN here. Many people talk about “drug seeking” patients expecting to see some scraggly scrag asking for his Morphine but that’s not what ‘drug seeking’ has looked like since the 90’s. It looks like Barbara or William (accountants/managers/realtors) calling the clinic demanding the strongest antibiotics known to man because their throat is only ever so slightly itchy and they can’t wait to scarf down pharmaceuticals, or the diabetic patient who demands Metformin despite not seeing his primary care doc in 2yrs, doesn’t know if his blood sugars have even been okay, no diabetic retinal exam, and no vigilance of other health indicators while taking these pharmaceuticals; all they know is “I want pills and I want them now.” Needs to be studied

I was prescribed Oxy between the ages of 14-18. I had chronic migraines where I couldn’t function. I asked my pcp if there is anything that can be done other than pain pills because I didn’t like the way they made me sleep my days away. They said no sorry. I was never sent to a specialist and at 18 decided to try veganism because I saw that it helped some people online. I went vegan in 2015 and still am to this day. I have only had 2 migraines since and both were while I was pregnant (I’m guessing due to increased blood volume). These doctors need to be held accountable and stop profiting on medicating people when there are other possible solutions

Heavy video but it is true. Majority of people are too comfortable to break out of the cycle. I get dopamine hit for little victories over big companies. Removing pre-installed spyware from my phone. Finding free substitute app with the same benefits as RU-vid premium, not supporting companies pushing predatory monetization practices into games. Because if buying isn't owning, pirating is not stealing.

This can sometimes express itself as twitches, screeches, loud humming to the point where they get a red face, or they just stare blankly in the distance to make it obvious they're ignoring the other stimuli, you can't talk to them unless they talk first because they'll straight up melt and become annoyed so much that they have to counter-annoy you.

I won't lie, I find myself going through youtube shorts at least 10 minutes before going to sleep even though I don't really planned on watching anything. Should just put my phone down. That said, I'm glad I don't engage with any other social media like FB, tiktok, instagram, etc. I see it everywhere how these apps completely absorb people's lives. It gets so out of control people visit this one cafe across my house and spend more time making 'the perfect instagram shot' and pictures of the food, then actually eating and talking to their friends. Almost everyone is constantly on their phone, even when they go out.

I have been keenly aware of the prevalence of gambling in common culture in the past 5 years. Gambling was once seen as a wasteful, destructive vice . Now, everyone from my aunts, to my college friends, and my teenage cousins have constant access to sports betting at their fingertips. It’s a low point for society. People are beholden to their weakest impulses while thinking they are intelligent. We are more than mere animals that exist to respond to stimuli.
